Educational Possibilities in Technology
Imagine life without modern-day technology, having to work with obsolete tools, and having little or no communication between distant people. This, to a lesser degree is the current situation in our educational system. In the past fifty years, technology has drastically changed lives. The invention of computers, smartphones, and handheld devices that can access the internet, a vast new world of information, has created immeasurable new opportunities and possibilities. The creation of a vast network called the internet has allowed an amassing of information available for free online. With Google alone, almost all information needed can be obtained. Access to encyclopedias and even Wikipedia can provide massive amounts of information to anyone who searches. These easy access points to information have helped many students’ understanding of topics. Many people have already been affected greatly by these new technologies and the jobs they created, and now many people own a personal smartphone. While the rest of the world has embraced this technology, schools still do not integrate all technology. Most classrooms have only one computer where the teacher is the one who has access to it. Of course, many schools have computer labs, but most of the computers are outdated. In classrooms, students are still using pencil and paper while teachers are the only ones with access to a computer. Implementing one-to-one computers in the form of iPads, laptops, or other handheld devices will help revolutionize the classroom. The lack of technology in classrooms has shown that education must be reformed to fully reflect the modern world.
Classrooms today are severely behind in their implementation of technology...

The history of the school system in the United States shows that the standard for teaching was centered on meeting the challenges of both the Agricultural Age and the Industrial Age, and according to Duffy (2010), was a fixed approach to teaching, designed for sorting students rather than for learning, in order to educate large numbers of children and to determine laborers from managers. However, the Knowledge Age is requiring stakeholders to reevaluate the requirements necessary for educating our children going forward. This societal paradigm shift is large and pervasive, requiring institutions to co evolve in creating more customized approaches to organization design, serving customers, and providing services so that students can succeed in the twenty-first century Knowledge Age (Duffy, 2010). The purpose of this paper is to share a planned and an unplanned change that has tak...

Technology plays a very important role in today’s society. Everyone has a smart phone and we crave the latest and greatest televisions, computers, cell phones and tablets. Some of these include iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Samsung Smart TVs, Samsung Smart watches and the new Google Glass. More and more schools are using technology in their teaching methods including our own one-to-one program at Oxon Hill High School where each student received a Samsung Google Chromebook. Technology should be used in school’s curriculum and instruction because of improved communication, innovations to come and convenience to both the students and the teachers.
devices in almost every classroom. Technology enhances learning, boosts confidence, and eliminates geographical limitations. Technology enriches learning by being able to come in different forms and do different things. "For lessons traditionally done with a paper and pencil, we now were able to do them in color, with animation, and with more depth and complexity"(McCollum). Teachers are now able to help stu...
Technology has changed tremendously over the past twenty years, and the world appears to be captivated by the outbreak of technology and its developments in the teaching field. Technology has altered and will change numerous ideas of teaching. The effects of technology in the classroom are connected to not to just the teachers but to the students as well. The classrooms need to stay lecture driven, but then again how will they if technology is involved. Cell phones should not be allowed in the classroom for the reasons of cheating, distractions, and texting.

Students have been besieged by technology. A study done in 2012 of “211 undergraduate students shed some light on how students use technology to engage or disconnect from the class room experience. Of the students surveyed, 210 have laptops and of those, 84 do not use them in class. One student does not have a laptop. Only 8.5% of the students have iPads and of those who do, over half do not use them in class” (La Roche 48). This shows technology is very abundant in students’ lives, and technology is vital to everyone. For most students that do not have a laptop or iPad, they can get internet access on a smart phone.
Technology is growing every day. We use technology for everything we do, sometimes without even thinking about it. In our world, these advancements are used for communicating, entertainment, and education as well as others. Since technology is so ingrained into our lives, how much we use and depend on it is often not thought about. Our education system is on the front end of using new technology in classrooms. More and more class room and teachers are weaving it into their lesson plans and making it more available for students to use in the classroom. Technology is changing the way students are educated in America and across the world. In this paper I will discuss several ways that this can be seen and improved.

Technology is becoming more and more dominant in our society.Everyday upgrades are being made and new innovations are being discovered. Technology is all around us whether we want it to be or not: it is the vehicles we drive, it can be found in our homes, and can even be found in the grocery store.Every place we look there is some type of technology.I believe technology has had a major impact on our school systems and is still impacting it today. There are those who do not agree, though, that technology has impacted our schools.Eric Gormly writes, “In fact, many theorists point out the overall impact of technology on education has been quite small, manifesting little discernible change in the classroom.” [1]Yes, there are some schools that are not as advanced as others, but many of them do have a significant amount of technology in them.I find it fascinating that so much technology has been incorporated into our classrooms, but I believe that, even with all of the positive aspects that are associated with technology, there are some negative and even dangerous aspects that should be taken into account.I will be sharing some of the equipment that has been used in the schools, how both the students and the teachers use the equipment, and also the positive and negative effects that technology has had on our schools.

Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).

Technology has rapidly changed over the years and has expanded our infrastructure greatly. In particular, as technology advances the education system adapts to the many changes. The world of technology brings about many new improvements and shows no sign of slowing down. Many people spend their day to day lives utilizing the great aspects of technology doing almost anything imaginable. Through technology teachers and students can connect and expound upon the many fields of education. Technology is an ever growing aid in education that has increased awareness, communication, and accessibility. How is technology shaping education? The uses of mobile devices and applications have shown a great influence in the education system.
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
