Education Must Empower Students to Think Critically

I fail to believe that the points given in the instructions of this essay are ‘genuinely the way education should be’. Its aim clearly and evidently discourages critical thinking. I disagree with all of them because it suggests an old school mentality, the ideas that our grandparents would have followed. I’m not saying that the points have no merit, they do - but times have changed. Education is should equip learners for more than just the exam.

“The student's role is to memorise information, then repeat that information in tests and exams.” – Isn't this just the fundamental mistake that is made in schools? This is often refered to call parrot learning. Education is more than just passing a test or exam. I think that those who enter the education system forget about this. Instead of memorising information they need to understand the concepts, grasp what the subject is about and then formulating answers would come naturally. Learning takes place when we engage ourselves with the work, when we make it ours.
