The Exhibition of Bodies offers the opportunity to children and adults an unprecedented visual experience to learn as never before about the complex human body. The Exhibition is located at 11 Fulton Street. New York, NY 1003.The Exhibition consists of 14 full body human specimens and over 200 organs. When one goes to this exhibition, one has to go completely open minded and aware that this bodies were willingly donated to assist educational, medical and scientific research. Through Polymer preservation, each body and organs in the nine galleries are dissected to clearly show the complex anatomical systems of the human specie. In addition, individual human organs are compared when healthy and diseased. Some of the purposes of the exhibition are to encourage people to make healthy life style choices and take care of their bodies as well as educate people in terms of anatomy and biology of their own bodies.
A fascinating educational approach to choose a healthy style of living is to compare individual organs when healthy and diseased. For example, people who smoke is able to compare healthy lungs with diseased lungs with cancer caused by the smoking habit. I am sure smokers will think twice before smoking again or at least will make an attempt to reduce or stop smoking. Some of the visitor’s comments include that they “are leaving the exhibition as newly formed non-smokers”. The experience is so real that I am confident a lot of people made a commitment to themselves to take better care of their bodies.

In conclusion, the Bodies Exhibition took my body’s health awareness at another level. After looking at healthy and unhealthy bodies and organs, I definitely choose a healthy life style that allows me to take good care of my body. I enjoyed every detail of the exhibition. For me the whole exhibition is a work of art because of all the years of investigations and advanced scientific researches that are involved in it. It was a pleasure for me to have the opportunity to visit The Bodies Exhibition because it was highly instructional.
Also, I feel grateful that I took my English class before I visit the Exhibition because it helped me appreciate better the complexity of my body.

The Beauty of Bodysnatching written by Burch Druin is a fascinating biography of Astley Cooper, an English Surgeon, and Anatomist, who gained worldwide fame in support of his contribution to Vascular Surgery and a further area of expertise. The extract gives a reflective insight into Cooper’s contribution to study of Anatomy and medicine. Cooper enjoyed the job of body snatching, which helped him to conduct a series of discoveries that were important for the future study and understanding of Physiology. In the Romantic era, when prettiness or horror was a sensitive matter and extensive concern at that time many physicians discouraged surgery, but Cooper passionately practiced it.
Kahn was a writer and contribute editor of magazines for wired and national geographic. Stripped for parts appeared in wired in 2003. Kahn was awarded award in 2004 for a journalism fellowship from the American Academy of Neurology. She wrote this short essay describing how organs can be transplanted. The Stripped essay is an- eye opener. Though not many people tend to think of how a body should be maintained after death. Jennifer Kahn depicts a dramatic image for her audience. She uses the terminology “the dead man “though technically correct, the patient is brain dead, but his or her heart is still beating.

The human body; it starts off as a single cell, and grows into a complex machine made of seventy eight distinct organs, two hundred and six bones, and millions of nerves that all communicate with each other to regulate body processes and keep the machine alive and healthy. This seemingly perfect system undergoes countless attacks every day, and manages to recover from most, although occasionally, it can not. Diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis and Coronary Artery Disease, or abnormalities and defects such as biliary atresia, can all disrupt the function of human organs (“Transplant Australia”, n.d ). Thankfully, through radical advancements in modern medicine, organ transplants are a safe and highly viable option to restore the human body’s perfect harmony. No matter the reason for organ failure, once it occurs, the patient’s journey to receiving a new organ begins. Through the matching of organs, the process and the complications that come with it, the ethical issues, and trials of new advancements, the journey is a long one.

Roach lists strange but helpful uses of human cadavers that benefit humankind in the long run. In the first chapter, as previously stated, Roach observes a face anatomy and face lift refresher course, in which surgeons use cadaver heads. This is an example of how cadavers are often used to practice different types of surgical operations, even cosmetic surgery (Roach 24). Cadavers also benefit the science of criminal forensics, in which their decay process is studied and used for different components of analyzing a crime, such as time of death. Researches place cadavers in different environments and observe the stages of biological and chemical decay and how different environments affect the decay process (Roach 61). To pinpoint the time of death, researchers analyze the body temperature, smell, the potassium level of the gel inside the eyes, insect infestation, and other entomological factors (Roach 62). Another beneficial use for human cadavers includes impact studies, such as a car crash. For the past sixty years, human cadavers have helped scientists understand and study human tolerance limits for violent injuries a human body can get from car crashes, such as skull slammings and chest skewerings. These studies and experiments allow automobile manufacturers design cars that, in the event of a crash, protect the person as much as possible and keep them safe (Roach 87). The goal for The Body Project is to provoke the intergenerational conversation about female bodies that most women never had or were embarrassed to have. Brumberg comments that the “chapters were designed to ignite memories about those awkward years and to foster conversation among mothers and daughters, female mentors and students, and friends and colleagues” noting that these memories stimulate laughter as well as concern for female maturation (Brumberg xxxi). Adolescence, the progression from childhood to adulthood, is a time of volatility and uncertainty. It makes one wonder how society came to these ridiculous standards of beauty and the taboo of talking about women's bodies that still resonate today. I can personally attest to the uncomfortableness of the conversation between menstruation and developing bodies.
