Green washing: The disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image. In order for big companies to stay on top of the market today, they are forced to think of advertising strategies to help their public image and advertise their product. Over the years the system has become very complex and also very questionable. Companies are willing to lie, change their logo, and sometimes even their company name just to keep their name and image clean in front of the public just to make sure that they are making their money. Green washing helps this by advertising to the public that they are environmentally supportive and responsible. Most people that are into buying “green products” do not even realize that the company they are buying from is green washing in some sort of way just so that they can attract attention to the public. Green washing companies may advertise that they are “eco-friendly”, but when it comes down to it, the facts hidden behind the curtains beg to differ. Just like in the green washing video we watched in class, the companies may look great compared to the worst companies, but that does not mean what they are doing is still productive for our environmental movement. One company that has been notorious for their green washing efforts for the past couple of decades is the Oil/energy company: British Petroleum a.k.a. Beyond Petroleum. They are one of the world’s largest leading oil companies who has also becoming a large energy supplying company with presence in petrochemicals, gas, and solar divisions. Over the past twenty years BP has been the cause of several deadly disasters in the oil business in the U.S. and around the world. Despite their green washing effor...

John Deere has recently been challenged by the Justice Department from filing a lawsuit challenging Deere & Co.’s planned acquisition of a high- tech farming equipment line from Monsanto Co., saying the deal would suppress competition for technology that allows farmers to plant crops at higher speeds. The misguided statement of U.S allegation as the news affected Deere to lose their share value and wrongly accused Deere will dominate the market. There is a broad view to define it, it shows John Deere is buliding “the proposed acquisition benefits farmers by accelerating the development and delivery of new precision equipment solutions that help farmers increase yield and productivity,” (Kendall & Bunge, 2016). Corporate Social Responsibility is an important strategic method to bring benefits in terms of customer relationships and human resource management. An increasing large number of firms are developing mission statements that also attempt to define the social and ethical boundaries of their strategic domain. Some firms are actively pursuing social programs they believe to be intertwined with their economic objectives, while others simply seek to manage their businesses according to the principles of sustainability – meeting humanity’s needs without harming future generations. For example, Unilever has launched a variety of programs to help developing nations wrestle with poverty, water scarcity, and the effects of climate change. The firm’s motives are at least as much economic as moral. As environmental regulations grow stricter around the world, the firm must invest in green technologies or its leadership
Whenever there is an increase of CO2 in the atmosphere, plants respond by reducing stomatal conductances, hence, water loss is reduced. This result in greater soil moisture content in ecosystems rich with CO2, this increases plant growth
CO2 sequestration helps in significant reduction of carbon level that is present in the atmosphere as CO2.
Human activities such as deforestation, industrialization and burning of fossil fuels are the major sources through which carbon dioxide is added...
The term Corporate Social Responsibility refers to a company’s responsibility to provide a benefit to the society the company affects. Corporate social responsibility incorporates dimensions of corporate responsibility, and corporate policy which include a company’s policy to hire minority or disabled workers, or taking a stance on social and political issues that benefit the community. The social portion of corporate social responsibility includes corporate charitable business contributions and expands on this common social business practice by invoking corporate social initiatives. For example, as a policy, Wal-Mart grocery store managers purchase as much produce and goods from local farmers and distributors they can as opposed to relying on national food distributors. This example of a corporate social initiative provides a greater benefit to the economy of the society surrounding Wal-Mart stores than if Wal-Mart made only charitable contributions to a food bank within the local area. Environmental responsibility is a business’s responsibility to decrease its carbon footprint and produce green products. The trend to produce green products has come into effect since global warming has become a greater concern in the world over the past decade. Reducing the carbon footprint and making green products may increase a company’s cost, but the company can charge more for its products and services to offset the increased cost. Nickels, J. McHugh, and S. McHugh give an example of the Ciba Specialty Chemicals Company, a Swiss textile dye manufacturer who charges more for its dyes than other dye companies because Ciba’s dyes “require less salt than traditional dyes”, and are therefore more expensive to produce (Nickels, J McHugh, S...

Clothing company use a lot of cotton in their production, and one way H&M is being environmentally friendly is by using organic cotton. By 2020, H&M is looking to have the organic cotton 100% sustainably sourced. H&M also is planning on launching a denim collection made from recycled garments that have been returned to their stores. H&M’s Code of Conduct enforces many of their business partners to be environmentally friendly. Their factories must have chemical containers that are properly labeled and stored, with a spreadsheet to keep record of how much waste they are putting into the environment. They are also aware that some parts of the world don’t have clean water. H&M watches their water usage in their factories, and treat any water before it leaves the factory. Any hazardous waste within the factories must be dealt with responsibly. Their Code of Conduct states, “Quality also means that our products must be manufactured in a way that is environmentally and socially sustainable.” H&M’s business strategy is to provide the world with fashion and quality at its best price. They are being a leader by becoming a more environmentally ethical company. It may be hard for H&M to have full control of their company and all the factories, but they are taking the right steps to becoming one of the most ethical clothing
Many companies all over the world produce chemicals for their products that are harmful to the environment, human health, and to all living species. Green Chemistry is the use of chemistry for the prevention of chemical pollution to the environment by using chemicals that are benign, or not harmful. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that the mission of Green Chemistry is, “To promote innovative chemical technologies that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances in the design, manufacture, and use of chemical products.” Green Chemistry contains any aspects and types of chemical processes that reduce the negative effects of certain chemicals, in a way, using chemistry to fight chemistry.
While the concept of an individual having responsibility is commonly recognized, modern views have lead to the emerging issue of corporate responsibility. Business Directory.com defines corporate social responsibility as, “A company’s sense of responsibility towards the community and environment (both ecological and social) in which it operates. Companies express this citizenship (1) through their waste and pollution reduction processes, (2) by contributing educational and social programs, and (3) by earning adequate returns on the employed resources.” But such a concept has been much disputed since at least the 1970’s.
