Disenfranchisement in Haiti

Often time disenfranchisement is shown in various places throughout the world. Although saddening, people face tragedies that cause them to lose things most important to them every day. For example, when the earthquake in Haiti struck, the people of Haiti lost everything they considered valuable. Having faced many obstacles, Haitian people dealt with the disenfranchisement of their pride and their possessions; there are endless amounts of literature that reference to the tragedies that occurred in Haiti and how these mishaps have affected the life that they are having to live.

Haiti is one of the more indigent countries in the world; the country also holds a low economic status. Over time Haiti’s economy grew gradually at around 2.3 percent per year but fell intensely after the disastrous catastrophe (“Haiti Economy”). Because of the lack of land and necessities, Haiti’s agricultural economy doesn’t have the proper resources needed for it to improve Haiti’s economic status. Haiti’s population today is centered around ten million people, on average each person exists on approximately two dollars per day (“Haiti”). In Haiti the financial situation continues to be induced brutally by the rising prices of humanitarian supplies, rapid natural disasters, and the state of low economy they are experiencing (“Haiti”). From the 1700’s through to the current date, there have been around twenty major natural disasters that have occurred in Haiti, each one leaving extensive destruction to the country (Bob Corbett, Disasters in Haiti). Until the earthquake of 2010, researchers discovered that there was a time in which Haiti was working on creating a juncture (Catherine Rampell, Haiti’s Economy).
