Different Types of Stem Cells

1091 Words3 Pages

Stem cells have the ability to grow and multiply into many different cells in the early life of the body. Stem cells help to replace dead and or damaged cells in the human body. These stem cells are found inside the body, inside our organs and tissues such as in our skin and liver. Each stem cell helps its organ or tissue such as if the liver is damaged, the liver stem cells would repair the liver. There are four main types of stem cells: adult, fetal and embryonic. Each of these stem cells acts in a different way and have their own nature. There have been many debates on whether there should be funding for the research on these cells. Many people agree to let the government allow them to use funds for this research. However, there are many people against the federal funds going to stem cell research. This is a very controversial topic and slowly the public policy regarding these cells is being developed. Technical Aspects The first type of stem cell is known as adult stem cells. This type is found mostly in the brain, blood vessels, bone marrow, skin, heart, liver and other organs and tissues. The ones previously listed are the main places where these cells are found. These cells go dormant or hidden for multiple years. Adult stem cells are the main cells used for treatment. They are found inside the tissue in a specific area. When the body needs new cells or even just more cells, these adult stem cells begin to divide and create new cells. They do this when the body feels its in trouble, such as when the body is suffering from a disease or an injury. The adult stem cells will activate and divide whenever the body feels at harm. Adult stem cells are then isolated in many ways depending on the area of the body and put into la... ... middle of paper ... ... to program these stem cells. There have been no more laws or guidelines set forth since May 15, 2013. Researchers continue to try to find more about these stem cells and hopefully one day researchers are able to use these cells for medical purposes. Works Cited Kilpatrick, D. G. (2014).
