From my LSI survey results my primary thinking style is “The constructive style” which includes Humanistic and Affiliative styles of thinking. According to the Survey this style of thinking enables me to make decisions that allows me to improve myself and to build healthy relationships with the people around me. Another definition that I have come across that also explains this style of thinking a little more in depth explains; “Constructive thinking is basically a way of thinking constructively about your world and environment. So instead of reacting to these events, you choose to interpret and then respond to them in ways that will support your growth and development and minimize friction with the external environment.” (Contructive Think, 2014). I do agree with this style of thinking which fits my personality because when I make decisions, I always take into consideration how it will affect the people around me I also ensure that am always helping those round me to become better through encouragements and other kinds of motivations. I apply this in both my personal and professional life. Another part to this style of thinking has to do with building personal relationships in a positive manner. I have always found myself to be the go to person for most people especially at work because they will get the help they need from me and I never shy away from a challenge, because of that people trust me enough to lead and help make the better decisions for the team. I see myself as a natural born leader as well as a people person, as I tend to get along with people in all settings because I can adapt to any kind of environment regardless of the situation and have a sense of accomplishing any task I have been given efficiently. By being an INTP, I have interpreted why some things work in my favor. Being a perceiver allows me to embrace change while keeping any ill-thoughts (regarding changes I do not agree with) to myself. This personality blend, also, allows me to participate in group settings when brainstorming is needed, and having a lower preference in introversion grants me just enough patience to play along with the extroverts to complete the task. When putting two letters together, I have better understood my temperament. “Temperament arises from the regulation of arousal and emotion reliably producing characteristic, habitual responses to experience”, and mine is Intuitive Thinking (NT), so I create many options in my head (Blandin, K., February 2013, para. 4). On the other hand, my personality leads me to situations where I make irrational decisions because I’m not granted enough time to think everything through. As viewed in the presentation, “Lesson 1-Worldview perspective on organizational behavior”, understanding my personality typology, others’ typology, and organizational behavior will allow the workplace to be more efficient because we have a better understanding of ourselves and how we can work together. I believe to be a successful leader it is important to not just focus on one particular style, but to incorporate many. If you take a few high points from each style and learn to mesh them together you should have a better understanding of leadership as a whole. This class has taught me that being a leader is a lot more challenging than people may think. Leaders have to wear many different hats in many different situations. To become an effective leader you have to work at it. It may come easy to some, but to others it is a skill that is shaped and molded over time. Different experiences and situations help mold leaders into who they become. I hope to use the different styles we have learned about to mold me into an effective leader in today’s society.
In the article “Dealing with People”, Greg McGrew explains that different types of personality to solve the problems of people’s relationship in our society. He classifies people by four types that are dominants, expressives, analyticals, and amiables. Greg begins with dominants who are forceful, confident, sociable, outgoing, and confrontational tend to threat their mental. Secondly, he describes expressives who are also quite forceful and reluctant to reject a suggestion due to concern about relationship. Talking with them is good method of treating expressive people. Then, he points out that analytical people deliberate to get the right answer. Even though they are superior in making decision, they need time to think how to answer the question.
The Humanmetrics Jung Typology Test certainly brought to light many unseen aspects towards my personal character traits and leadership style at work and at home (2015). Whether I am interacting with members from my personal or professional life, my INTJ personality type dominates my perception for good or ill. Strengths and weaknesses abound in any of the sixteen personalities designated by the Jung/Myers-Briggs Personality Test. My self-confidence and perfectionist attitude can be attributed to my identified type. Upon receiving this project, I immediately began to worry about a survey that would seek to determine how strong of a leader I would be. I cowered at the fact of coming up with either false information or information I felt was less than perfect. I think that this fear alone, confirms my primary style. My primary style is that of Self-Actualization. Self-Actualized individuals seek to always become all that we can with the talents and knowledge we have. We tend to be creative and like to live in the moment. We bring almost a refreshing perspective to most situations and have a continuous intrinsic drive for self-development. I see this style manifested in myself on a daily basis by my strong desire to always meet new challenges. My motivation for success and coming up with new ideas is completely internal, and when the outlook seems grim to others, I am always the one that sees a positive outcome ahead, through the use of a plan. Although, I am currently a stay at home mom, I would imagine that as a manager that worked outside the home, I would share the same values as I do at home. I am a planner and a “lister”, because I feel that in order to tackle a task, the plan of attack must be clearly laid out and readily available to refer to. My backup thinking style is the Achievement style. I think this is very obvious because I seek to find jobs or take on challenges that will allow me to feel a sense of achievement. I have been known to quit jobs that paid a decent amount, but weren’t allowing me to achieve anything. On several jobs before, I’ve ended each day with a feeling of unimportance or frustration because I felt like the majority of my day had been spent working a job that wasn’t fulfilling or impacting the world. I think the fact that I decided to leave the corporate working world to be a stay at home mom, attests to the fact that I want to feel a sense of achievement in the personal raising of my child. I want to set up a standard for my child to ultimately be able to be a self-actualized person as he grows older.
Thinking versus feeling is the next portion of the personality type. This letter covers how we make decisions. In the book Type Talk at Work, the authors explain that Thinkers tend to be more firm, just and analytical, whereas Feelers are more involved, subjective, and tend to be known for their caring nature
My primary personal thinking style is the Achievement Style, which is one of the constructive styles. Constructive Styles pertain to self-enhancing behaviors in ways of thinking, which determine a person’s level of satisfaction. These styles also pertain to the capability of effectively working with people, building healthy relationships, and being proficient at the accomplishment of tasks.
I 've had to do this frequently. I 've been involved in situations where I could have easily called out of work due to snow conditions. I was needed at work but they would have allowed me to stay home if I pressed the issue of the roads being too hazardous. We are also in thinking mode when we research a product with consumer reports, then make the best choice. This at at times has cause an issue in my household. I 've learned that just because the masses has given a product positive feedback, doesn 't mean that it 's the reason I should purchase. The thinker also establish guidelines to follow for performing a task (Jung). I usually like to have a blueprint of what I want to accomplish. It helps me see an end result from my thinking. I am in thinking mode while using shopping experiences. If I already have an item similar I choose not to purchase another item. That is the thinker’s mentality. Interesting
In this essay I will be describing various types of learning styles and stating the advantages and disadvantages of these learning styles. I will also inform you of the most commonly used method of finding out your own learning style, and I will inform you of the man who made this method. Finally, I will write about my own preferred learning styles and the strengths and weaknesses of the different learning styles.
After taking the survey, my results depicted that my primary style of thinking is Affiliative. I find this someone accurate in how I live my life, however there are characteristics I exhibit which diminish my affliliative personality. I find that I am continuously trying to find that perfect relationship or bond with someone. Frankly, I find it hard to make connections with others because my continuous need to be perfect. I find that my closest and best relationships are those who have common values, way of living, and ideals about living life. Once I find a relationship that is trusting, I try to maintain it to my best ability. I am very easy to talk to, however my best communication is with others that have the same values. I express my liking for the other person by showing some generosity and kindness.
I perceive that some of my personality traits were beneficial to our group project. With moderate levels of openness, I was able to play with ideas and was open to new ideas from other groupmates during our brainstorming session. But, I was also able to seek a balance between being overly imaginative or conservative, especially when we tried to narrow down and finalize our ideas as I emphasized on justifications when we discussed
I understand my styles and behaviors better now. Too bad I didn’t take this course earlier in life. Understanding myself will help me understand other people better I believe. That will be helpful concidering the profession I intend to have.
Critical and creative thinking are fundamental to human intellectual progress and artifacts thereof (Dewey, Elder, Csikszentmihalyi, Rosenman, & Gero, 2012). Critical and creative thinking are considered higher levels of thought because while it is believed that critical thinker primarily uses the left-brain and a creative thinker primarily uses the right-brain, both types of thinkers tend to think outside the box, but in different ways. There is no direct link between critical and creative thinking, but they each have different dimensions of thought that are used. Critical thinking is convergent thinking, creative thinking is divergent thinking.
For instance, I have learned that just simply reflecting on what I am seeing in the classroom is not enough that I have to comprehend and gain knowledge about the classroom in a more profound and meaningful way, such as relating observations to theories and psychology studies. Also I have learned to reflect more deeply on what is going on around me, not just looking at what is at the surface. I took notes during my observation. I tried to not only write what was happening, but also why it was happening and tried to convey any thoughts or feeling the students, teacher or myself had. Lastly, in my reflection, I improved my reflection skills by asking myself questions, such as, “what would I do,” “how would I do it,” and “how would I react?” Then, I would reflect back on what I had learned throughout the semester to see if I could find the most appropriate
