Homosexuality (the tendency to be more sexually attracted to the same sex) is often confused with homosexual behavior (acting on homosexuality by engaging in homosexual acts), but the two are distinctly different. Even though homosexual behavior, especially in more recent years, has become an acceptable standard in our society it is a voluntary act and a sin, but the church has the ongoing responsibility and God-given call to love our neighbors, regardless of their sin because we too are all sinners. In light of this, we as Christian should treat homosexual behavior as we would any other sin by condemning the sin yet loving, nurturing, and keeping accountable the sinner.
Within the scope of this argument is also found the nature versus nurture debate. While there have been some scientific studies done to “prove” the genetics behind homosexuality, these studies have largely been debunked, leading toward strong evidence in favor of a nurtured causation of homosexuality. In Authentic Human Sexuality, authors Balswick and Balswick present many strong arguments in favor of the nurture argument, first of which is the discussion on social learning theories on pages 98 and 99. There are five different offered social theories in support of the nurture stance. The next section in the book discusses the Neopsychoanalytic perspective on the origins of homosexuality, which I think better encompasses the nurture argument and puts the social learning theories to a common ground, as well. Both the neopsychoanalytic and the social learning theories suggest that there is a lack of proper growth during formative years in an individual’s life. From this lack of proper growth, as the neopsychoanalytic perspective explains, a natural need for parental...

...understand, however, is the invisible church’s response to homosexuals. Jesus loved the sinners; in fact, he spent most of his time with sinners such as prostitutes, tax collectors, and lepers. In light of this, we as Christians are essentially called by Christ through the example he gave to us by his life to love homosexuals despite their sin, while lovingly keeping them accountable to curtail the sin. Part of the major uncomfortability with this is that their sin is public, whereas most people try to hide their sin as best they can. We are all sinners as much as any homosexual who acts on their sexual desires, especially in the eyes of God. Our social perceptions, though, make the homosexual behaviors look like more of a grievous sin because of its unacceptable nature. At any rate, we know our mission: to make disciples of all nations, even if they are homosexual.
Throughout the essays of Richard B. Hays in “Awaiting the Redemption of Our Bodies” and Walter Winks “Biblical Perspectives and Homosexuality” both authors tackle the difficult subject of homosexuality and how it should be perceived in terms of the bible. Both Authors agree that Homosexuality is a sin according to the bible, but have different perspectives on how it should be handled and received. Christians. Richard B. Hays opens his essay talking about his friend Gary, who was dying of Aids and was struggling with homosexual behavior. In Hays’s “Living under the cross” section he says “there is no reason at all for the church to single out homosexual persons for malicious discriminatory treatment; Insofar as Christians have done so
The biopsychosocial theory that I chose to apply is Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development. Erikson’s theory places more emphasis on social than sexual influences in development of children. The theory proposes that there are eight stages of development which last until birth to old age. Erikson also argued that we all consistently move through each stage methodically and don’t skip stages (Rogers,
Homosexuality has been around as long for as there is recorded history. Through the years, however, the opinions towards homosexuality have changed. Now, homosexuality is being labeled as a genetic trait rather than as a psychological problem. Not everyone believes this to be true, however. I have always believed that homosexuality is genetic and I decided to search the web for some evidence.
It is my observation that the average person gains insight into the nature vs. nurture debate when some particular human trait that is politically or socially volatile at the time is announced as having a specific genetic origin. This observation was confirmed when, in surfing the web, I came across an article entitled, "Female Inner Ear Comes Out of the Closet (1)." While reporting on a study published by a UT psychology professor who found that homosexual women exhibit tones in the inner ear similar to those of male test subjects, the Daily Texan journalist, with no explanation or sources, effortlessly mixes and confuses the social construction with the "science" of sexual orientation—even in her or his title. Attempting to get to the root of how an individual's sexual preference is determined, and the subsequent attempt to designate these individual tendencies into definitive statements regarding large groups in society has become a seductive topic for numerous media sources within the past decade or so. A closer look at this debate reveals the relative error of exploring one side without an equal exploration of the other.
Religion has been a big issue with judging homosexual. Some Christians believe that the Bible speaks with one clear voice in condemning homosexuality. In many Anti-gay Christians groups see homosexuality as sinful. Using the Bible to justify their hate against anything they do not understand.
Mona West’s article addresses one of the most controversial issues in the Christian religion, sexuality. In most of the Bible, homosexuality is viewed in a negative light. Verses explicitly same that people cannot lay down with those of the same gender. Mona argues that Paul’s letter, 1st Corinthians, has chapters that support the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) community. The church is supposed to embrace diversity.
In the debate over homosexuality, Christian ethicists have many authorities to draw from. From the mixture of biblical sources, traditional authorities, empirical and descriptive accounts, and cultural norms, Cahill chooses general biblical themes and modern culture as the primary authorities for her ethic. This departure from traditional Roman Catholic teaching implies some flaw in the connection between the Holy Spirit, the church, and common believers. Cahill’s decision is her method of fixing this disconnect and reuniting Christ’s message with all believers.
What controls a human's sexual orientation? The long-standing debate of nature versus nurture can be extended to explaining human sexual orientation. Is it biological or environmental? The biological explanation has been gaining popularity amongst the scientific community although it is only based on speculations. It is argued that sexual orientation is linked to factors that occur during sexual differentiation. The prenatal exposure to androgens and their affect on the development of the human brain play a pivotal role in sexual orientation (2). Heredity is also part of the debate. Does biology merely provide the slate of neural circuitry upon which sexual orientation is inscribed? Do biological factors directly wire the brain so that it will support a particular orientation? Or do biological factors influence sexual orientation only indirectly?
The first possible cause of homosexuality is genetic factors. Homosexuality is a trait from birth (Buchanan, 2000). Studies found that identical twins share many common traits. A study found that identical twins normally share homosexual behavior if one of them is homosexual. This proved that genes are likely to cause homosexuality. In addition, according to (Santinover, 2002), homosexuality is a heritable behavior. Based on heritability studies, almost any human trait is heritable including the homosexual behavior. He stated that behavioral genes are found in specific chromosome. Thus, the behavior is obviously heritable. Moreover, Italian University of Padova (2004) believes that homosexual trait is passed from mother to male offspring by natural ...
Even up until now, the controversial issue of homosexuality is still apparent and widely discussed in many countries all over the world. Although many people are becoming more open minded and less skeptical about homosexuality, many more are still reluctant to accept the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) communities as equals. Whilst many may argue that their religion absolutely forbids same sex marriages, thus, rejecting the idea of homosexual relationship, many of them feels it is their right to make the gays and lesbians straight again. For instance, in South Africa, many males practice corrective rape. It is a form of hate crime towards lesbians in order to ‘cure’ them of their homosexuality in order to change them into heterosexuals (Strudwick, 2014). This proves how sick and twisted the minds of homophobes are. As a Catholic myself, even though I was taught that same sex relationship is wrong and not natural, I do not condemn homosexuals or look down on them. In fact, I even have friends that are gay or bisexual. It is good that more countries have now implemented new laws to protect the LGBT community. This ensures the lower crime rate and discrimination of the LGBTs. Despite the fact that a few European countries and several others have legalized same sex marriages, there are still rejection and objection from some parties particularly from the Roman Catholic Church (Bingham, 2005). Why does the Church have such strong objections? Through my research, I will discuss on the views and teachings of the Catholic Church on homosexuality and same sex marriage.
Since the 1800's, psychiatrists and psychologists have concluded that homosexuality is a mental disorder. They have believed it is brought about by misguided upbringing and their social environments. For instance, it was believed that if the child was lacking a male - figure in the home, he would most likely be gay. Or that child abuse can lead to lesbianism when the special needs of a little girl are denied, ignored, or exploited and the future womanhood of the child is in risk. However, inconsistencies in the research subjects' abuse records ruled these theories out. And if this were the case, then why is homosexuality present in different cultures? Some believed homosexuality was caused by a difference in brain structure. In 1991, Simon LeVay published research stating that sexual orientation may be the result of differing brain structures. The hypothalamus, a region in the brain that governs sexual behavior, was the structure that LeVay was pointing as the structure at fault. In his studies of the hypothalamus, he found that in homosexual men, the hypothalamus was smaller than that of heterosexual men. Instead, it was the size of the female hypothalamus, consequently explaining their sexual tendencies.
Homosexuality is a word used for people who like same-sex people. If you had a person that was male and he was a homosexual he would like another male instead of a women, it also goes with a women. I know a few people who are homosexual's, they are very dear to me. I think that people should just let people love who they want, it is really none of there business.
Developmental psychology is an area of research dedicated to the understanding of child-development. Throughout history many theories have been used to attempt to explain the complex process. Two of those theorists, Freud and Erikson, were instrumental in creating a foundation for child-psychology to build on. From a Freudian perspective, human development is centered on psychosexual theory. Psychosexual theory indicates that maturation of the sex drives underlies stages of personality development. Alternatively, Erikson is considered a neo-freudian scholar who developed psychosocial theory. In Erikson models there are eight major conflicts that occur during the course of an individual’s life.
We have no right to judge. We should leave that to the Lord, and he will make the right decision. He will decide what the sinner does and doesn't deserve. Christians know what to abide by. They may know that being a homosexual is going against Gods word, but they also know that the Lord says that one should love all no matter what circumstances.
First of all, homosexual desire is mostly caused by exoteric factors. A lot of studies on homosexuality shows homosexuals overwhelmingly believe their behavior is the result of environmental influences. The reasons of preferring homosexuality includes: early homosexual experience with adults, homosexual friends, poor relationship with parent, unusual development which includes sissy, artistic and tom-boy, heterosexual partners unavailable, social ineptitude, and born that way, in which early homosexual experience with adults has the highest percentage (Cameron 8). Family abnormality is one of the most important factors. A dominant possessive rejecting mother, an absent distant rejecting father, a parent with homosexual proclivities, a sibling with homosexual tendencies, the lack of a religious home environment, divorce, parents who model unconventional sex roles, and condoning homosexuality as a legitimate lifestyle can all influence the kid’s sexuality a lot (Cameron 19). Sometimes, family’s over expectation on a child could impact the child’s sexuality as well. For example, a father ...
