Intro to Glue Blocks Typical stairs consist of two basic components a tread, horizontal, and a riser, vertical. However, over time stairs begin to degrade causing slight warping in the trend. This shrinkage of the wood as well as weaken of the fastener between the riser and trend causes the two components to rub together, this creates an unpleasant squeaking sound. To solve these problems, a joint called a “glue block” is used with nails or screws to secure the joint to the underside of the trend where it meets the riser. These glue blocks are right triangle prisms and strongly support the perpendicular connection between the tread and riser due to the reinforcement of the right angle. The name “glue blocks” doesn’t seem to make sense since the joint is primarily supported by screws. The history of the glue block’s function was primary used in furniture, such as chairs. Glue blocks were used in a similar fashion to support the leg and other parts so it may not cause squeaking and when dealing with furniture, glue blocks were installed with glue. It was later that carpenters adopted these glue blocks in the construction of stairs. Inventor: Designing the Glue Block 2D Sketch on Inventor When first creating the 2D sketch of the glue block on Inventor, I had to design the triangular face of the joint. Since I understand a glue block is might to strengthen the right angle connection between the riser and the tread, I deduce that the triangle has a right angle. Then considering how the glue blocks are supposed to be installed, it would make the most sense to sketch the triangle so the right angle was to the top corner. However, there are also other considerations that should be made. One of which is the importance of symmetry i... ... middle of paper ... ...slow at the dimensioning process. I plan that through further experience and practice with Inventor that I will be capable to better create designs more efficiently. 3) How can I do better in a future similar situation? To do better in a similar future situation, I would work on better time management skills so I complete assignments punctually and to the best of my abilities. Then if I experience any difficulties with Inventor, I will take self-advocacy to ask my teacher or colleague for assistance. 4) Who in my class can offer extra insight? For extra insight I may always look towards either my teacher or my peers. Since the class is a split Grade 11/ 12 class I can ask my seniors about their past year in Grade 11 Technological Design. Those who are in my year can always offer constructive criticism and I can also give them criticism as well as a mutual benefit.
There are two main things that can be used to secure joints: balsa cement or cyanoacrylate glue. Before gluing two pieces together, lay them out on a work board or wax paper and use pins to prevent the members from moving apart; the pins should not be placed near the joints so that it is easier while gluing (Anderson 2006). Then, apply the glue to the members and make sure that they touch to create the strongest joint possible. Despite it seeming as if more glue would make a structure stronger, using bulks of glue can cause the bridge to fail as cyanoacrylate bulk will cause the joint to become more brittle (Anderson 2006). To prevent excess gluing with cyanoacrylate, a special glue applicator should be used to minimize the amount of glue added to the wood, and to increase strength with balsa cement, thin the glue out first by making the solution 30% water. This process will be utilized when constructing the bridge to ensure that the joints are sturdy enough to withstand weight and won’t be the cause of failure.
A connecting rod subjected to an axial load F may buckle with x-axis as neutral axis in the plane of motion of the connecting rod, {or} y-axis is a neutral axis. The connecting rod is considered like both ends hinged for buckling about x axis and both ends fixed for buckling about y-axis. A connecting rod should be equally strong in buckling about either axis [8].
A crunching and grinding sensation and noise in the joints when they are moved can be a symptom of
Every disease is known for having their own cycle or process; well as for Osteoarthritis its process is pretty complex. In osteoarthritis (OA), at the end of the bone where they meet to form a joint, allowing movement, the cartilage covering the bone begins something called breakdown. Cartilage is a tissue that cushions the joint when it moves. As the cartilage wears away, the bones are now exposed and they begin to rub against one another. The bone is no longer functioning smoothly, for the joints shape and makeup is affected due to cartilage deterioration. Due to the fact that your bones are being rubbed against one another it is highly possible that other problems can occur inside the joint.
In addition, I'm a stickler for details and meticulous for execution of complex projects -
I will be comparing Elmer’s school glue and cheap Dollar store glue (iMagine glue). The Elmer’s glue is priced at $1.00 for 4 oz. The cheaper glue is priced at $0.50 for 4oz, so the iMagine glue is a good bit cheaper than the Elmer’s glue. The Elmer’s glue is a touch thicker than the cheap glue. Technically, Elmer’s glue is a “PVA - based glue”, but is is basically like all regular “PVA” . There is not much difference in Elmer’s glue And regular “PVA glue.” There are many parts to making slime like the right amount of Borax. For instance you could put too much borax and your slime will be hard , and we don’t want that. Do you know how slime works? The borax dissolves into the water the water into sodium ions Na^t, and tetraborate ion. Hydrogen
I say this because both Mr. Downing and Mr. Marion has made some good points. As a victim you will not succeed I have been in that position pre-viously. Now this semester I feel that I am doing well I set some goals in the beginning of class, which was be on time complete all assignments on time, don’t miss any days, ask for help when I need to, communicate with teacher, get support from family and friends, set up a support system at school, and get numbers of classmates just in case I miss something. Personally think I need to regroup myself to have a better outcome. My modifications will be not missing anymore days, turn in work assignment’s on time, and come up with how to spend my time at home to complete my homework. My desired grade in ENG 2 class is an A. I don’t plan on giving up and I plan on giving this all I have this time around like I stated before my children will be looking at me I am going to make them proud and my-self!!!!! I will be a creator and never a victim
The first is for control of buckling in the main girders during construction. The wet concrete imposes significant bending of the bare steel girders and the compression flange needs to be restrained against buckling. The second function is that bracing can be used to distribute the vertical bending effects between the main girders, and to ensure that lateral effects such as wind loading and collision loading are shared between all the girders. The third function is dimensional control, as a result of unequal loading, the horizontal distance between the flanges of adjacent girders will vary if not constrained. Bracing was placed at every transverse stiffener location for both girder sizes. 4 x 4 x ½ inch angles were used for bracing elements (Figure

So, between now and the time that I graduate, I need to be more cognizant with math and computers. My goals are to take a computer programming class, whether it’s online or over the summer. I also plan on taking additional mathematics courses, such as calculus, algebra, or trigonometry. In order to reach these goals, I must get experienced with another necessary quality of an aerospace engineer: time management. Although I have big ideas, I’m also realistic. I know it won’t be an easy task, yet I know it can be done.
Mounting brackets are provided at the sides of longitudinal members to support the body. Dumb iron pins are provided for mounting of suspension springs.
“Triangles are the most sound structure for a bridge” (Alise). We have found that triangles are a very good support to build a strong bridge. Some arch bridges and truss bridges use triangles to have better support. Almost all, especially the big and reliable ones are made of steel or iron. However, those materials aren’t all that we need for a strong bridge (thank goodness because we are only allowed balsa wood and wood glue for ours).

Pratt has diagonals under heavy tension, while verticals are under compression as they slope down toward the center (History of a Truss Bridge). Pratt truss verticals function as compression members, while diagonals function as tension members. Hip verticals are adjacent to inclined posts of the bridge. Pratt trusses are commonly used for railroad bridges. They a take longer time to build because of the more complex design where downward beams attach to the vertical beams (Difference Among Warren Truss, Howe Truss, and Pratt Truss,
