Introduction In the health care setting, service delivery for clients usually involves collaboration between Registered Nurses (RNs) and other multidisciplinary team members to meet the clients’ needs (Doyle, 2008; Ward, 2013). Before facing this actual working environment, nursing students should gain collaboration ability and be accustomed to it during their study. In the unit Mental Health for Practice, students were given an opportunity to develop collaboration skill in an assigned group project by developing a YouTube presentation to complete the task. This reflective piece will discuss the process of forming the group and the selection of roles for each member. The relationships within the group will be explored along with my own self-awareness after completing the project. Process O’Neill & Cowman (2008) define a group as more than one person with diverse abilities joining forces to obtain the same goals. According to the authors, a group can work effectively by respecting one another, having open communication, understanding each other’s roles and providing time for regular meeting to achieve desired outcomes. Sargeant, Loney, & Murphy (2008) also shared the same view regarding the criteria of an effective group work. These criteria were applicable in the process of our group work as the group formation and topic choice showed a high level of cooperation. The group was formed due to the fact that all team members knew each other beforehand. Coincidentally, the team members were all international students which made it seem likely to choose a topic related to the circumstance of being international students. The decision for the group topic: ‘International Students’ Mental Health Issues’, was reached after a thorou... ... middle of paper ... ...ers would also showed respect during the group discussion, by providing space and time for each member to vocalise the thought before the other members tried to express their ideas. After these implicit rules were displayed, the next part was to present the main issue that occurred during the finishing process of the group task. Although completing individual task was not a difficult challenge in this group work, combining each member’s materials for the YouTube recording proved much harder. One person who was in charge of undertaking this task had difficulties on collecting the others’ workload. Complication was occurred during the members’ attempt on sending their parts via emails. Due to the fact that it was hard to send the recording files as a whole data, the members decided to solve the problem by sending the files into several parts to the editing person.
By working together there is information sharing, improve safety and quality also collaboration gives knowledge to other professionals. (Littlechild and Smith, 2013).what I have learned through working in partnership with other professionals was creating a poster related to what each professional does. Some of the professionals I did not know how exactly they work together in partnership. Example: I was not aware of how a radiology would work with a social work and the outcome of that was that Radiology develop and maintain collaborative relationship with medical colleagues and participates in regular meetings with other professionals activities to meet the needs of a service users therefore they collaborate with Social Workers. By doing a poster and delivering information I learned a lot from the other team members, shared experiences knowledge and skills with other group members. Group work made me realise how it is very important to work in multi-displinary team, the benefit of it and what others can benefit from. During the poster each of the student was from different professional however we all had the question but each had to look at it in each profession perspectives. This gave an opportunity to everyone to go and search for each professional and communicate with the rest of the group the outcome of the presentation. By doing that, we exchanged ideas learned from each other’s skills and used it into practice. I have learned about sharing information with others, learned about communication and
This is a reflective essay based on my attendance at a multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting whilst on my two-week placement at a local mental health day hospital. The aim of this essay is to discuss the importance of the multidisciplinary team within the mental health environment and discuss factors that can influence the success or failure of multidisciplinary teams.

After completing the group task of preparing a presentation on, transferring individual facilitation skills into a group work setting, I will critically reflect upon my own participation. I will evaluate my self-awareness while working in the group, as well as those around me. The way that I personally dealt with any issues that arose within the group and how that affected the group dynamics. I will also briefly discuss the roles in which each member of the group took part and how role allocation affected, the group dynamics and the working relationships. Finally, I will evaluate my work having discussed it with my fellow group members.

A group can be define as ‘any number of people who (1) interact with one another; (2) are psychologically aware of one another and (3) perceive themselves to be a group’ (Mullins, L, 2007, p.299). Certain task can only be performed by combined effort of a group. Organisation can use groups to carry out projects, which will help to achieve its overall aim. However, for the group to be successful they must understand what is expected of them and have the right skill to complete the task. . (Mullins, L, 2006)

living in a modern society, often times we are given with task that we must complete in given period, and sometimes we are given task that is too much for us to handle on our own. With that, we are required to form groups with other individuals and work together to complete such given task as working in groups will significantly reduce the time required as well as the workload to complete such task.
When working on a group project, there are certain skills that are required to make sure that the tasks are being carried out smoothly. With that in mind, it is critical to keep an open line of communication as well as an understanding of the other individuals in the group. The following scenario is of a group project I was a part of that had a breakdown in the two points expressed above.
They share information, discuss values, and collaborate on decisions. The self-esteem of team members correlates with involve-ment with decision making.” It is significant that you have to be able to work in the field of nursing to be able to participate in the decision- making or information process; for instance, you can’t be in other fields like sociology or criminology to participate in a group discussion concerning Nursing. Likewise as present, nursing is an emerging field of study that will provide more access to inspire many other
As said by Bill Richardson, “We cannot accomplish all that we need to do without working together”, but that is easier said, than done. The often rumored and associated nightmares one experiences with group work certainly may result in poor attitudes and approaches of the members. This may be the cause of the challenges faced in the groups. In the first group, all of the members were anxious to solve the case, because of this there were more opinions to consider. This made the whole process challenging.
A group can be defined as several individuals who come together to accomplish a particular task. In the case of my group, the five of us were assigned the task of coming up with a six-hour training program detailing the importance and need for public relations in companies. As a task group Joanna, Diana, Eric, Paige, and I were brought together to accomplish a narrow range of goals within a specific time period. Joanna and I assigned goals and certain tasks to the different people in our group and shortly after our initial meeting in class, emergent roles started to naturally develop to meet the needs of the group at a specific time. Despite a few miscommunications and scheduling conflicts, our group worked well together.
The therapeutic factors that were present during the group session were universality and cohesiveness (The American Group
