In society today, people look at beauty as a tall, skinny model or a tan, muscular man. It has brain washed the world to believe that in order to look beautiful, they must look like the images that are seen in the media. Today’s celebrities who are famous for their appearance also encourage the belief that thin is beautiful. These images are all over the media right now and have been for many years. With all of these images that are seen everywhere, a person feels obligated to look just like the people of Hollywood so they turn to cosmetic and/or weight loss surgery. Although cosmetic surgery can improve one’s self-image, it can also have a lot of disadvantages which can lead to many risks, even death.
Most people believe that having cosmetic and weight loss surgery will help solve all their problems in life. Unfortunately, that does not always happen. These surgeries come with more negatives then positives and can cause numerous long term problems for a patient. The first negative for cosmetic surgery is the pain. Most surgeries are aggressive and involve having to take several pain medications. The recovery time can be between a few weeks all the way up to at least 6 months. Depending on the procedure and how well the patient is able to tolerate pain. There have been many scenarios where the cosmetic procedure “has gone wrong”. This can leave the patient with permanent damage. These surgeries can also be extremely expensive. Other than minor procedures, most cosmetic surgeries start at four thousand dollars and only go up from there. Most insurance does not cover “surgery for cosmetic purposes”, so the patient has to come up with the entire payment, which usually leaves them in debt. ... start realizing what true beauty is. True beauty is not a stick thin model, or a tan, muscular model. No one in the media even looks like the perfect images they portray. Just remember that not all good things come from cosmetic or weight loss surgeries. Many risks can occur during and even after the procedure is finished. Before anyone even considers undergoing one of these surgeries, they need to ask their selves, “Is it worth all the risks and dangers?” Many people would have not went through with it if they knew all the dangers that can go along with it. While looks are very important to other people, they would have these surgeries and not even care about the risks. Looks are not as important as many people think they are. Media just makes them think that way. Just think before acting on a decision, because this could be a huge decision is some people’s lives.
