Computers have many functions. Communicating to others, performing job functions, and playing games are just some of the things computers are responsible for. Technology changes on a daily basis and will continue to. Below is a resource of information on different aspects of computing.
The Computer Industry
The computer industry is a customary term used to characterize the range of businesses involved with producing of computer hardware, software, and networking of the infrastructures. The computer industry has existed through much of history. Electronic computers were developed during the time period of 1940-1945. There are many products that have developed from the computer industry such as video games, cell phones, airplanes and more.

The information on computing grows everyday. Keeping up to date with the changes of the industry will benefit you. Day to day products as well as employers are converting to more technology products.
Overall, the computer industry is relatively attractive. The potential for future growth is high but new competitors must face the threat posed by already established, well-known brands. There are relatively few substitutes for computers and the power of suppliers and buyers is low. New companies would likely be able to successfully yield a profit. Companies have been relatively successful in this industry throughout its history. It is important that all firms in the industry are able to keep up with ever changing cutting edge technology, however.
By 1995 the computer industry was a relatively new industry with a history of around 20 years only, a considerable time for a technology based industry, but still not a mature industry. On the other hand, by 2002 the industry was all ready a "$220 billion global industry" showing how "from its earliest days in the mid 1970's, the industry had experienced explosive growth" and presenting the industry as a very attractive industry with capability of even more growth. Even with this growing strength, there was a great presence of economies of scale, if a new company were to enter this industry it would have to face the cost disadvantage of not coming in with a large scale, since competing against IBM and Microsoft, and even Apple in a large scale would be suicide. Following, the industry was characterized also for been very capital intensive, for developing new products and new technologies required and investment on R&D of around $500 to $700 million, representing in Apple's case some what of a 4% to 6% of revenue investment fluctuating through out the years. On the other hand, by 2005 this capital intensive industry changed as
What is a computer? More so what is a personal computer and how does it make everyday life easier? A personal Computer by definition is “A small relatively inexpensive computer designed for an individual user. All are based on the microprocessors technology that enables manufacturers to put the entire CPU (Brain of the Computer) on one chip” (Personal Computer). “A computer is, at its most basic, a machine which can take instructions, and perform computations on those instructions” (What is a computer). A computer is made up of simple parts a microprocessor, memory storage, a motherboard that connects the two, a keyboard and a mouse for navigating through programs and files, and a monitor to view information on the computer.
The subject of this term paper will be about computers in the 1950’s. The divisions that will be covered are; the types of computers there were, the memory capacity of computers, the programming languages of that time, and the uses of the computers for that time. Information will be gathered from the Internet, from books, and from magazines, and from the encyclopedia.
Early computers were nothing more than people, who's job was to “compute” by doing math by hand. Full of errors and tedious, mechanical devices were invented that could make the job easier. Even though the technology was out, it didn't catch on due to being pricey. Modern computing begins with the ENIAC, and went into full speed with the improvements of the IC. In the past 3 decades, the shift in computing has been from private to home use, and technology plays and increasingly important role in our lives. Technology is always being improved, and is being innovated in more ways than just computers used for doing work.
Computers technology has a huge impact throughout our social world and economy. A computer is an electronic device that is used for storing and processing data for purposes of work (Forester, 1988). It helps operate work automatically for people. Multiple modifications and new build- INS in this technology have affected our environment and the way people use it today (Schoenherr). Computers started from the simplest technology to models that could perform increasingly complex tasks. It first started with the vacuum tube, then the transistor, next was the IC computer, the microprocessor, and overtime came the present and beyond which included the Apple Macintosh (Johnson, 2003).
Computers are a magnificent feat of technology. They have grown from simple calculators to machines with many functions and abilities. Computers have become so common that almost every home has at least one computer, and schools find them a good source for information and education for their students (Hafner, Katie, unknown). Computers have created new careers and eliminated others and have left a huge impact on our society. The invention of the computer has greatly affected the arts, the business world, and society and history in many different areas, but to understand how great these changes are, it is necessary to take a look at the origins of the computer.
Herman Hollerith became the next computer engineer in history. He used electricity to count the census and successfully started a business called the Tabulating Machine Company. When World War 2 began, inventors incited use of the computer in creating undisclosed messages so the enemy could not find out strategies. That is when colossus was created. It was the secret of World War 2.
The laptop computer has had a tremendous impact in the areas of business, education, government, and personal use. The emergence of portable computing and the laptop computer can be traced to the introduction of the personal computer itself. In 1975, the MITS Altair 8800 was introduced. The Altair is recognized as being the first commercially successful personal computer and the launching point for the personal computer revolution (Sysop, n.d.). Almost simultaneously, the idea of portability (in particular for the business-person) became a major focus in the industry.
Computers have been a big help in society. They have helped us win wars, invent weapons that are inconceivable, and even provide us with opportunities like going to space, traveling, and to further our communications. The birth of the computer spawned the birth of bigger industries, increasing the lives of everyone on Earth. Two components go along with the creation of the computer, hardware and software. Hardware is the tangible parts of the computer such as the monitor and hard drive. Software is what comes on discs that tell the computer what to do. Computers are put together with the installation of software that allows us to access many different programs that we need in order to operate it. As we input information through the keyboard, the central processing unit (CPU) processes that information using speed then outputs the information onto the monitor. Many argue that the speed of the computer relies on the accuracy of humans. This allows us to be in control at all times while the computer simply obeys our commands.
By the late seventies personal computers were everywhere -- at the office, the schoolroom, the home, and in laboratories and libraries.
Computer has been an important gadget in many peoples life. Computers come in various design, size and types. For example, there are computers that needs to be placed on the desk or on a flat surface like the desktop computer and the laptops. Where else we have the computers that can be carried along with us like the mobile phones and tablets. Computers are so important that it is used to communicate by billions of people. For example people use computer for far distance communication like sending emails to friend and workmates or talking to family members at any time without restriction and this is really convenient. Computers are also used for working purpose like the consumer using it for business, employees to employers as well as customers. (Gary B.Shelly 2011). Computers are also used for education in schools, library, and at homes as well by students, adults and kids. Computer is a very helpful medium to learn knowledge and information. In this 21st century, nothing works without the basic knowledge in computer for example a small shop uses computer to keep the records of thing that they have sold and even a road site food stall uses the calculator which is also a computer to count the price. Compare to the past era children used to play out door games but in recent era children prefer to play indoor with their computers. Today I will be writing about the modern history of computing since it is really important to know the history of computer.
There is no special person has inventing the computer, but it came from the exertion of a group of inventors. It has developed a computer-making until we got to this level of development where it became easy acquisition of the computer and it became most important things in our lives. Computer consists of several main parts screen, mouse, keyboard, and system unit. T...
Computers are changing the world as we know it, and they offer an exciting new way of working. The news represented a complete turnaround for the corporate giant. Microsoft Chairperson, Bill Gates publicly announced his company's new connection to the Internet. The announcement rang through the nation. Gates has consistently ignored the Internet in favor of desktop computing. So, with Microsoft's approval, computers kicked into even higher gear . The pace of innovation continues to astonish even those involved from the start. If one wants to find enthusiasm, intellect, hard work, and imagination; then computers is the place to be .
The computer evolution has been an amazing one. There have been astonishing achievements in the computer industry, which dates back almost 2000 years. The earliest existence of the computer dates back to the first century, but the electronic computer has only been around for over a half-century. Throughout the last 40 years computers have changed drastically. They have greatly impacted the American lifestyle. A computer can be found in nearly every business and one out of every two households (Hall, 156). Our Society relies critically on computers for almost all of their daily operations and processes. Only once in a lifetime will a new invention like the computer come about.
