When Judaism and Catholicism are mentioned, there is a general misconception that they are very similar religions when in fact Judaism is a predecessor from which Catholicism took its early foundations, but altered in its main belief as time progressed. In the progressive timeline, Judaism originated around 1300 BC. From this religion, Christianity was formed as a new religion stemming from Judaism around 35 AD, and Catholicism being a branch of Christianity formed its identity as a distinct branch of Christianity years later around 65 AD. Thus, Catholicism is a branch of Christianity, which stems from Judaism, and analogously Judaism can be thought of being a tree, Christianity a red apple and Catholicism is a cross-fertilized green-red apple being that the seeds of the early foundations of Catholicism stemmed from Judaism and Christianity, but it has its own unique identity.
Beliefs
Because Judaism is such a complex religion, there is no formal set of beliefs or rules that establish one as a Jew. The closest that anyone has ever come to generating a widely accepted list of Jewish beliefs is Rambam's thirteen principles of faith.
They basically state that God exists, is one and unique, incorporeal, and eternal. The book of faith is the one and only Torah, both written and oral; the Written Torah is the first 5 books of the Bible and the Oral Torah are teachings contained in the Talmud and other writings. Lastly, the words of the prophets are completely true and the greatest prophet, Moses, has prophecies that are believed true.

Althoughthe two religions share some of the same beliefs, there are vital differences between the two. Judaism is called the religion of the Jews and was the first faith to believe in one God. Christianity then followed that belief. Both religions are based on monotheism (that there is only one God).
Although both religions believe in monotheism, Judaism is based on an absolute deity called Yahweh. The beginning of the Jewish religion and the creation of the world is told throughout the Tanakh or the Hebrew Bible. And the Jewish teachings are known as the Torah. They belief that all the prophets heard them and there teachings can be found in the Bible. The Jews feel that history begins the same way as the Muslims with the creation of the world by God, but after this they tend to veer off from the Islamic beliefs. They believe that God sent “patria...
