Off Campus Lunches

Although some of the food that gets served in most high schools is decent, wouldn’t it be great if students had another choice? High school students should be able to have off-campus lunches and there are many great reasons: it would allow for fresh air and a break from school, kids could choose a more nutritious, filling meal of their choice, and it would help students manage their time and become more responsible. Students would love to have the option of off-campus lunches, it would benefit all schools for the better. Fresh Air and Friends Teens need to be able to get out of the same, enclosed building and enjoy some fresh air every once in a while. Kids get sick of being cooped up in the same building, sitting in classroom after classroom, for 7 hours a day. It would be nice for students to be able to go outside during the school day to just breathe, relax, and prepare for the rest of their classes. Diana V. from Foothill High School claims, “When the school keeps students on campus it makes the students want to leave” (Should High Schools). Having an off-campus lunch period would allow for students to see their friends outside of class, especially friends they don’t get to see at all throughout the day. One may argue that this is not important because students get to see their friends during class, but class time is supposed to be reserved for doing schoolwork and studying, as every teacher would claim. Although kids may have some time in class to talk, they still are limited as to how much. Schools also might be hesitant to allow off-campus lunches because many advisors believe that it will increase the temptation for students to cheat (Homewood), but in all reality, it would be just as easy for students to cheat in an on... ... middle of paper ... ...
