Although some of the food that gets served in most high schools is decent, wouldn’t it be great if students had another choice? High school students should be able to have off-campus lunches and there are many great reasons: it would allow for fresh air and a break from school, kids could choose a more nutritious, filling meal of their choice, and it would help students manage their time and become more responsible. Students would love to have the option of off-campus lunches, it would benefit all schools for the better. Fresh Air and Friends Teens need to be able to get out of the same, enclosed building and enjoy some fresh air every once in a while. Kids get sick of being cooped up in the same building, sitting in classroom after classroom, for 7 hours a day. It would be nice for students to be able to go outside during the school day to just breathe, relax, and prepare for the rest of their classes. Diana V. from Foothill High School claims, “When the school keeps students on campus it makes the students want to leave” (Should High Schools). Having an off-campus lunch period would allow for students to see their friends outside of class, especially friends they don’t get to see at all throughout the day. One may argue that this is not important because students get to see their friends during class, but class time is supposed to be reserved for doing schoolwork and studying, as every teacher would claim. Although kids may have some time in class to talk, they still are limited as to how much. Schools also might be hesitant to allow off-campus lunches because many advisors believe that it will increase the temptation for students to cheat (Homewood), but in all reality, it would be just as easy for students to cheat in an on... ... middle of paper ... ... Lunch time is a time to take a break from the day and recharge for the rest of the day. In elementary schools it is also a time to meet up with your friends and socialize. Lunch time is not only time to eat. It is important for the mental, social, and emotional health of the children as well. Children need them chance to unwind and destress, which is promoted by socializing with friends. “Lunch should be an enjoyable part of the school day for students, offering a break from classroom work and a place to relax, socialize, and become nourished.”("The Cafeteria: Creating a Positive Mealtime Experience", 2013) Lunch time should be done in a setting where
Truancy can occur among students if an open campus is accepted. If students have the privilege to leave school for fifty whole minutes on their own, then they have the freedom to not come back. It would break the trust between students and educators, and harsher rules would have to be enforced on the open campus rule. Numerous students who decide to ditch the remaining periods would have an excessive amount of in-school absences. This could lead to parent conferences and suspension, and possibly expulsion in some cases. When a student misses or skips a class, the information taught that day would not be accessible in the same format which others have learned. One?s academic grades can be effected from lack of information by truancy. Irresponsible students who choose to take the risk of leaving their school after lunch for the remainder of the day will not have this opportunity if an open campus is kept closed.
French students get 1 ½-2 hour lunch breaks, and many countries including France have off-campus lunch programs, where they can go home or to a restaurant for lunch. Why can’t Oak Creek High School have off-campus lunch? By the time students are in high school, they should be responsible and trusted to have off-campus lunch privileges.
The right to the student should be guaranteed to open campus lunch. We are living in a failed experiment, that is the government controlling the school lunch. It is time to step out of the failed experiment and do another experiment, only this time successful. Student should be allowed to have open campus lunch.
On the other hand, having open campus lunch would force students to learn time management and teach them what future responsibilities for college and employment. Students would have thirty minutes to get where they would choose to eat and back while remaining punctual. Some students would receive tardies, some would be early, some would be right on time, and some would not return. Since high school prepares students for college, having open campus lunch would be a great thing for students to get
Throughout Virginia Woolf’s writings, she describes two different dinners: one at a men’s college, and another at a women’s college. Using multiple devices, Woolf expresses her opinion of the inequality between men and women within these two passages. She also uses a narrative style to express her opinions even more throughout the passages.

“More than a third of the county's children are overweight or obese.”(Gustin, 1). As shocking as this is, it's true. One of the big reasons that children and teens are overweight is because of the foods that they eat. They are fed these fattening and unhealthy foods by the school system. Their futures can be changed if we change our choices. Having more nutritious lunches can have a positive impact on the health of American teens.
Every student in all grades were able to leave during the time a scheduled class did not occupy. (Saslow, Linda. “Schools split on “open campus” NYtimes.com). Open campus lunch is the allowance of high school students to leave off the premises to a local restaurant for the duration of lunch. School districts in America have opposed open campus lunch benefits due to common knowledge and concern for potential student endangerment. A reason why schools should change educational environment would be to accommodate what students’ need to create comfortable working conditions. Old school methods included the repetitive process of helping students through daily material every day of the week with one break. Off campus school lunch was an unknown factor to high schools back
School lunch menu should be healthy and nutritious for the students. There are several ways to fix the school lunch menu problems. In many schools, they are selling/providing junk food like chips, cookies, sugared liquids, candy, and most other snakes. Removing these junk food items from school lunch menu should be a good action that helping children make a healthy food choice.
Should students lunch time be extended and be able to have off campus lunch? Off campus lunch would benefit students in multiple ways, therefore, schools should grant students it. The school’s food isn’t filling and a majority of the students think it’s nasty. Off campus lunch grants students with numerous different fast food places. It allows students more time to eat and to relax.
So, after listening and examining my fellow classmates I have come to the conclusion that students would much rather prefer to have lunch that includes snacks that they enjoy and have a nice freshly well-cooked meal that will fully satisfy them. That is why you should perhaps think about my proposal for a change for all schools and their school lunches. This is something that I am sure all students will thank you
You don’t want that, right? I believe that our school should get a new lunch menu because many students do not like the food served, there are not many options, and there are many problems with the food. One reason our school should get a new lunch menu is that many students do not like the food served. For example, a survey was taken and of the 31 students, 100% said they disliked the food. As student Bryan Huang said, “The lunches are horrible, they need better choices and more choices.”
Why is this a problem? Cafeteria food is often cheap, bought in bulk, high in calories, malnutritious, and microwaved. Student polls and opinions prove this. Therefore, this leads to a suggestion: Healthier, tastier foods and a better, more advanced lunch system should be implemented. First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food.
One reason to why I think we should be allowed to go outside is because it gives the students a place to go after they finish eating; rather than sitting at the lunch table until the bell rings. It gives us a place to walk around rather than sitting for another 15 minutes, like we do all day. It would be nice to stretch our legs and get a little energy out before our next class.
