A. Evaluation Form or Observation Protocol
The evaluation form that was used to evaluate a classroom teacher’s performance is a rubric used by the school district (Hillsborough County Public Schools, 2012).
A1. Performance Factors
The teacher was rated using a rubric with specific criteria in four domains including planning and preparation, the classroom environment, instruction, and professional responsibilities (Hillsborough County Public Schools, 2012). Within each of these domains are components which are the performance factors that are relevant to classroom teachers. In domain one the components include: demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy, demonstrating knowledge of students, setting instructional outcomes, demonstrating knowledge of resources and technology, designing coherent instruction, and designing student assessments. The components for domain two include: creating an environment of respect and rapport, establishing a culture for learning, managing classroom procedures, managing student behavior, organizing physical space. In domain three the components included are: communicating with students, using questioning and discussion, engaging students in learning, using assessment in instruction, and demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness. There is only one component that was rated for domain four which is reflecting on teaching.
B1. Reflection on Pre-Observation Conference
The pre-observation allowed me to better understand the lesson and get information on the kindergarten students in the classroom. ... teaching the foundational skills, as well as, moving into other parts of the reading block (guided, interactive read aloud, literacy centers, etc.). After the reading coach models, the teacher will teach a lesson which will be observed by the coach. She will provide feedback and work on a plan based on the observation.
Overall the post-conference was effective and the teacher was able to learn more strategies that will help her improve instruction which will have an impact on student learning. I think because I took a collaborative approach, the teacher was open to the feedback and willing to try new strategies in order to meet the needs of her students.

Mrs. Hamm discussed that she actually uses three different programs to help teach language and literacy to her students. The first program, which is actually her favorite of the three programs, is called “Read Aloud Library”, the second program is called “Language for Learning” and the third program is called “Reading Mastery”. There were many roles that took place in this interaction, the host teacher was the leader, due to the fact that she was the one implementing the methods and ensuring that students succeed, but the literacy coach was the behind the scenes leader that ensured that the teacher was able to effectively teach the students and was using her time to maximize the students potential. The also, the teacher also played the role as the student in learning and implementing the new methods she was being taught, then the literacy coach was the teacher in teaching the new methods. • During the meeting, my host teacher taught the lesson as the literacy coach observed the lesson and took notes on what she was doing and what things she would have changed during the lesson. After the lesson they discussed what things were done correctly, where the weaknesses were, and what things could have been changed to make the instruction more effective. • My host teacher communicated that she believed some suggestions were beneficial, however, she did not like all of them.
Principle one is literacy coaching involves particular knowledge in literacy. Literacy coaches must have an abundant knowledge of literacy processes, skills, assessments, strategies, and fresh researched topics in literacy. To acquire the literacy knowledge needed to be literacy coaches they should have a higher education with a Master’s degree in reading or go through a reading specialist program. It’s been noted in several studies by L’allier and Elish-Piper (2006) and Elish-Piper and L’allier (2007) that teachers who were supported by literacy coaches their students improved greatly in their reading assessment scores. In additions literacy coaches need to learn how to work with teachers by understanding how an adult learns. For instance, teachers need to be involved in the instructional planning by being appreciated for the knowledge, experience, and suggestions, which can be openly discussed rather than being turned
In Jeremy Polk’s article, Traits of Effective Teachers, he mentions ten characteristics of effective teachers. Those ten traits are, “good prior academic performance, communication skills, creativity, professionalism, pedagogical knowledge, thorough and appropriate student evaluation and assessment, lifelong learning, personality, content area knowledge, and the ability to model concepts in their content area” (Polk, 2006). Polk understands that these are not the only traits that effective teachers will showcase, but it is the start to a list of highly important qualities (Polk, 2006).
Aimee used small word cards and got each children to read the word of their card this was to help them with their reading as it says on the planning. After the observation the three of us sat down and spoke about what Aimee’s strengths and weaknesses are this will be put into her CPD to carry on during school time. Discussion points with Supervisor During the time of feedback I asked Aimee how she thought the observation went Aimee was able to give point of where she thought she did well but she was able to pick up on areas that she could develop.

Kevin seems to enjoy the guitar and continues to be actively engaged in classroom activities. Presently, we’re working on keeping a steady beat while playing different strumming patterns (beat/rhythm discrimination). I look forward to working with Kevin in the second half of the school year.
Making the best use of teacher evaluation results raises a number of challenges such as feeding information on performance back to those who deliver educational services, most notably teachers and school principals; developing mechanisms for the improvement of teaching practices, notably teacher professional development; establishing rewards, support systems and consequences that flow from evaluation results; and developing the channels which ensure that information generated by teacher evaluation is used for educational policy development. In electing to observe a kindergarten class, I was hoping to see ‘real world’ examples of the social development, personality types and cognitive variation found within the beginning stages of “Middle Childhood” as discussed within our text.
What I believe I have learned from the four models this week is really amazing. I have gained critical information that definitely will impact my life as an educator. Every model emphasized this week has different teaching techniques and each model helps meet the different needs of teachers. Even though, I am still having doubts on how to implement a specific model, I think instructional and content coaching can be implemented with novice and veteran teachers depending in the need of the teacher who is having issues in the classroom. The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.
