I was always taught that if I did not stay in school, then I would not be successful. In some cases, people get lucky and find a decent job where they can live comfortably or at least out of poverty. But generally that is not the circumstance. Staying in school is one of the first most important choices you make because finishing with a diploma is the beginning of your career path. Students have numerous reasons for not completing school but there are just as many to stay in school but chose not to realize them. An education can lead to endless opportunities, but without one the consequences can be severe. The choice whether to stay in school should be simple, find the reasons to stay and finish for a more successful future.

Someone with a high school diploma will have advantages over someone without one. With a diploma, it is easier to continue schooling to have more of an advantage in career paths. High schools also teaches valuable lessons that will be used in adulthood as well as offers experiences teenagers should encounter to help them shape them as people. Everyone has different lives outside of school and may have to deal with worse circumstances than others. But school should be seen as a getaway from the outside world because high school may seem tough; life afterwards tends to be tougher. School can be the escape needed, and a learning lesson for future obstacles. Some students cannot have school be a getaway from the outside world and are force to drop out. Other students feel as school is not a necessity or have something come up which they consider a good enough reason to drop out.

My favorite part of graduating was proving to everyone who did not think I could, and show others that may be considering dropping out how awesome it feels to be a graduate.

Other people might say that you can still get a good job even without a diploma or GED, most of the time those are low paying jobs at a fast food restaurant. Students now learn more advanced curriculum at a younger age, and this continues to become more evident year after year. High school has now become more focused on teaching students a small amount of information on several essential subjects, rather than having them focus deeply on the subjects they seek to pursue in their career.

Students’ dropping out has become a crisis, President Obama said, “It’s time for all of us to come together parents and students, principals, and teachers, business leaders and elected officials to end America’s dropout crisis” (“ President Obama”). There are 7 thousand students’ that drop out of high school that adds up to about 1.2 million each year, wouldn’t it be nice to drop that number and help kids stay in school instead of dropping out of high school(“ President Obama”). Students’ shouldn’t drop out of high school because they couldn’t go to college, couldn’t hold down a job, and would struggle making minimum wage for the rest of their life.
High school can be tough for many teenagers. Some students may feel as if the classes they are taking are boring or the material being taught will not help them later on in life. These students begin to not show up for class and then their grades start lowering drastically. Next, these students come up with the idea that dropping out is the easiest and fastest way to escape all the stress that is caused by academics. However, they need to start looking at the bigger picture and asking themselves if quitting school is going to help them reach their personal goals. Most people want to live a life filled with laughter and have the least amount of trouble as possible.
