The causes and effects of Global Warming
The Earth has experienced considerable climate change for the last several centuries. There have been many explanations toward the main causes of the increased warming of the planet, but according to IPCC climate report: human impact is unequivocal. The recent weather events that Canada has experienced in Toronto and Calgary have proven Canada is at great risk from the climate change.
A UN panel said it was more certain than ever that humans were the cause of global warming and they also predicted temperatures could rise from 0.3 to 4.8 degrees Celsius in this century. According to the IPCC report it is certain that pollution from burning fossil fuels is changing earth’s climate. Which is also responsible for rising sea levels, stronger storms and hotter days. The new climate models suggest that sea levels are likely to rise by almost one metre by the end of this century. And heat waves are likely to occur more frequently and will last longer, wet regions will receive more rainfall, dry regions will get less rainfall. Sever climate change is heading our way. The report also states emissions of greenhouse gases will further change atmosphere throughout the one century from now snow will vanish from everything except the most astounding mountains, deserts will spread, and seas will get acidic, prompting the annihilation of coral reefs.
The past IPCC report in 2007 stated it was likely that an Earth-wide temperature boost was man-made, yet the later report made it really clear people are significant reason for an unnatural weather change. I believe Mankind is responsible for the increased amounts of natural gases already in the atmosphere accelerating global warming to take place. This is because humanity is the key contributors of adding large amounts of greenhouse gases to the Earth’s environment. The greenhouse gases accumulate in the atmosphere and traps heat, which increases temperature causing global warming. And the effects of global warming are widely seen in Canada, causing extreme weather and flooding.

For years to come there will always be a speculation on whether the climate change has really taken place or not. Many believe that large companies launched this topic in order to benefit from it in profit, as there are also those who are convinced that this are consequences that have emerged from human mistakes in understanding the environment. As humans are struggling to trust one another whether it is just a big conspiracy or not or environment changing itself, we are slowly starting to feel the effects of climate change. Because of the gasses (CO2) that are in the air, atmosphere is getting warmer, thereby triggering the Greenhouse effect. Almost 70% of emitted gasses in air are CO2, which leads us to believe that this is the main cause of Global Warming. Since it is billions and billions of metric tons per year that are being released in air, many scientists conclude that temperature will most likely be more higher in twenty years from now, than it was in near past.
Human activity plays a moderate effect on global warming. Although we are major source of releasing carbon dioxide through cellular respiration, I do not believe it causes an imbalance in our atmosphere. Today I will be speaking about global warming but before I begin, how many of you believe that global warming exists and that the human population is the primary cause of global warming? I ask this because there are people who believe that global warming does not exist or that it’s “a hoax created by China”. But that’s not true and global warming is in fact one of the biggest problems facing the world today. There is a significant amount of negative effects for the environment and for all living beings due to global warming. These changes are becoming more prevalent in our world today, in the past 150 years. Scientists have been analyzing the causes and effects of the greenhouse effect and many other issues that global warming has presented. As John Houghton states in his book, Global Warming the Complete Briefing, on page 2, “The 1980s and 1990s were unusually warm. Globally speaking, the decades have been the warmest since accurate records began somewhat over a hundred years ago and these unusually warm years are continuing into the twenty-first century.” There are countless records that show that our world as a whole is getting warmer, and the facts cannot be disputed.
