Hamid, a student at State University has received his Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree and is currently in the final year of completion of his PhD. During his attendance at State University Hamid utilized the Foreign Student Advisors Office where he developed a close relationship with the advisor of that particular time. During the following years the student advisor was replaced by another student and the relationship between the advisor and Hamid was in its early phases. While not being a close friend, they were in fact friends. Hamid assumed that the role of a friend was to employ favors for one another. The ideal of doing nice things for each other in return for friendship was assumed on the part of Hamid.
The definition of friendship according the Webster’s Dictionary is, “the state of being friends, the relationship between friends, friendly feeling or attitude, kindness or help given to someone.” (Merriam-Websters Dictionary, 2014) In the case of Hamid and the Foreign Student Advisor, Hamid assumed that this definition proved to be true. In asking for help to get his “brother” admitted to the University Hamid tested his friendship and asked the favor of admittance. Although this definition does include that friends “offer help” this idea is not necessarily true in the case of a dishonest friend. Hamid was dishonest in his account of the situation and was in fact seeking to save his family friend from military life as well as fulfill a promise to the boy’s father. When finding out that his friend would have to follow proper school procedure of the admittance policy Hamid became upset saying, “Since I have been a student here I never asked for a favor. This is the only favor I have asked and you won’t help.” (Cardot, 1998)...

...ommunications open and see them through to the end. An apology is something that can be very challenging for some and something that can easily roll off the tongue for others. I believe Hamid not only should issue a full apology to the advisor but should also apologize to the father of his friend and the friend. I understand that different cultures view apologies in a different light, so Hamid should act accordingly to not only his culture but the culture of the advisor.

In this friendship neither individual requires anything from the other. “There is no question here of any service, or of any demand. The friendship is one of pure, genuine disposition, and is friendship in the absolute sense.” This friendship has no limits or requirements and the individuals within the friendship can throve and deem each other worthy of true friendship. “The point of special importance is this. In ordinary social intercourse and association we do not enter completely into the social relation. The greater part of our disposition is withheld; there is no immediate outpouring of all our feelings, dispositions and judgments. We voice only the judgments that seem advisable in the circumstances. A constraint, a mistrust of others, rests upon all of us, so that we withhold something, concealing our weaknesses to escape contempt, or even withholding our opinions” according to Kant. Though this friendship is the purest of them all Kant believes we should try to open up and be authentic. Kant states that if we can free our constraints meaning fears and give our hearts whole heartedly “we achieve complete communion. That this release may be achieved, each of us needs a friend, one in whom we can confide unreservedly, to whom we can disclose completely all our dispositions and judgments, from whom we can and need hide nothing, to whom we can communicate our whole self. In Cicero 's argument, he believes that because your friend had the audacity to ask a good friend a favor that is wicked, makes the person who asked an unvirtuous man. If a friend were to accept the favor, the whole virtue of the friendship would be questions, but if a friend denies another friend a favor he would be breaking the laws of friendship, “we must not ask wrongful things, nor do them, if we are asked to. For if a man should declare that he has done a thing of this kind for a friend’s sake, the excuse in ordinary affairs, and especially so if the act was treasonable” (Cicero, 95). Besides virtue, which plays a large role in his argument, a minor quality is the trust within the relationship. I discovered that it is not only about asking the proper questions and favors, but always have faith in your friend that they will see the good in your acts.
As previously mentioned, Aristotle has identified three different types of friendships. The first is friendship based on utility. This is a friendship in which both parties become involved with each other for their own personal benefit. An example would be a working relationship with an individual. These are people who do not spend much time together, possibly because they do not like each other, and therefore feel no need to associate with one another unless they are mutually useful. They take pleasure from each other’s company just for their own sake. Aristotle uses the elderly and foreigners as examples of friendships based on utility.
A friendship is a special relationship between peoples , It occurs between friend that care about each other. In talking about friendship , the novella from John Steinbeck “Of Mice and Men”. Two friends George and Lennie ,they are trying to find a job together to complete their dream of having a farm. But Lennie is an adult size with a child's mind, he gets in trouble a lot and as his friend, George helping him solve the problem and taking care of Lennie. Later George and Lennie finds a new job , but George lies to the boss about the problem that Lennie has.
I would define friendship as complete trust and love between two people. Many people believe that this kind of behavior is reciprocated between two individuals without any expectations. A friend is someone who also provides you with support and whom you can rely on to celebrate special moments with. A friend also comes with many great attributes; such as loyalty, honesty, compassion, trust, and morality. Today’s friend is viewed as someone who shares happiness, common values, history, and equality with another. For example, Aristotle and Cicero both wrote dialogues about friendship and its significance on mankind. Therefore, the key issues that will be discussed are: their views on the similarities of friendship, the differences between friends,

The purpose of this paper is not to teach you, or to show you, how interpersonal communication is essential to everyday life at home or work. But, I am going to do my best to at least show you how essential communication skills are in all areas of life by using me as the example. My plan is to focus on some of the elements of interpersonal communication that we have been touching on this semester. While reading our Interpersonal Communications Book, three goals kept being highlighted that I personally wanted to accomplish by the end of course. I’m sure that by now I have noticed that I keep referring to my topics as goals.
I have learned a great deal about different cultures and the communication between those cultures. I didn’t really think I would learn as much as I did. I am from an older cohort than most of the people in my class; therefore my experience level is a little greater. This did not prevent me from learning a few things and enhancing the knowledge I already have.
Intercultural communication is an evolving discipline that encapsulates the interactions between individuals or groups from different backgrounds. Diversity and the need for cultural awareness are forever increasing, and this solidifies the direction in which diversity will take in the future. Intercultural communication is going to be a tremendous part of our future and as individuals it will be part of our personal, social and professional relationships.
Firstly, friendships teach to help one another in many ways every time. What does it mean to be a competent communicator and a competent intercultural communicator? A Competent communicator defines as a person who can communicate with others properly and sufficiently, and a competent intercultural communicator is the ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with people of other cultures. It takes many abilities to be an effective competent communicator and an effective competent intercultural communicator. While some environments and factors can affect the way you communicate properly, there are also abilities that can help you achieve better communication. In this discussion I will be comparing and contrasting the concepts of both competent communication and competent intercultural communication.
Humans have been communicating since four million years. On the other hand, the birth of culture is estimated to have taken place about 35,000 years ago. Today, both culture and communication have evolved considerably and have become interdependent of one another, to the point that communication is considered to be a product of culture. Thus, our own culture has a deep impact on our thoughts and behaviors. Since each culture has its distinct aspects, intercultural communication can be the cause of conflict and disorder. There are three main issues which are at the root of the problem of intercultural miscommunication : language as a barrier, cultural diversity and ethnocentrism. I will analyze these three notions in situations in which intercultural communication is frequent such as : the workplace, the classroom and vacation trips.
We do not make friends because they are useful but the bond of friendship, once it grows stronger and stronger has a number of positive aspects. There are certain secrets that can only be shared with our friends only. When we are facing a difficult situation in our lives, only true friends come forward to help us overcome all the difficulties.
Abstract: Globalization has made intercultural communication inevitable. Communicating with other cultures characterizes today’s business, classroom, and community. Technology, especially the internet, has increased the probability that whatever is documented online will be read by someone from another culture. Intercultural communication is of importance in any career field, thus the art of knowing how to communicate with other cultures should be a workplace skill that is emphasized. This is a conceptual paper whose purpose is twofold.
