To me, photos have always been a way tangible way holding onto my favorite memories. It makes me happy to hold a small, shiny picture and be transported back in time. The way a photo of the sun escaping below the ocean could bring back the feeling of wind rustling through my hair and across my skin, the aroma of sea salt wafting from the crashing waves makes me happy. Since I was young, I would go out of my way just to get the perfect snapshot and I find joy in capturing the true essence of a family member. Capturing people and life makes me happy, and photography will always be my favorite hobby and strongest passion.
As went through high school, I continued to love photography. I taught myself the ropes of Photoshop in extreme detail, and became editor of the yearbook. However, I developed an interest in the business world as well. My parents have always had the philosophy to do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. So with that in mind, I decided to combine my two interests and pursue a career as a photography business owner. Ideally, i’d love to specialize in vintage, outdoor, natural light senior photography. The struggle though, is the photography industry is going through some drastic changes. People are capturing life’s moments with their own digital cameras and smart phones. Free editing websites and apps are becoming incredibly popular. While at the same time, some with zero photography experience what-so-ever are trying their hand at the photography business part-time (Swanson). Competition in the photography industry is fierce. So in order to attract and maintain customers, a senior photographer must be vastly knowledgeable, distinctly noticeable, and creatively unafraid.

There is an old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words” which is very true. In the article, "Against Neutrality", by Teju Cole mainly focuses on how a photograph can change a person perspective in an entire different way. Coles states, “The camera is an instrument of transformation”. A photographer has the power to create multiple different perspectives, which can be good and bad. It depends on the person who takes the picture and with the intent of the photo. A photographer is like a writer because they want to send some time of message to their audience.
Bullying is a horrible trait to have. There are many reasons why kids bully other children. In my opinion, there is never a good reason to bully. I believe if we come together as a nation, and educate our younger generation on how to avoid becoming a bully, and then the issue will slowly resolve on its
Photography is a form of art, the ability to capture moments that we share and experience throughout our life. Moments that we can share and show others, moments that can show the expression, emotion, and history. Photography has literally shaped how we see the world and the people in it. It has given us the opportunity to keep records of historical moments that will forever remember and it has given us the chance to show other how life varied for everyone in this world. That is what photographer Jamie Johnson shows us through her work such as Vices and Irish Travelers.
... wealthy enough to hire a professional photographer could record the many precious moments in their life. People would take pictures of events and places that they've been to, as well as portraits of their friends, family and loved ones. This lead to families of all stripes keeping photo albums in their homes to flip through and reminisce. Even before portable cameras came into vogue, photography changed the way people interact with each other. Young suitors would often attach photo portraits of themselves to their love letters, and soldiers going to war would often bring photos of their sweethearts back home. Not only that, but things such as photographs of famous celebrities became prized collectibles, with photo cards of famous people being traded around in a way not unlike the baseball cards of the 20th century. The next major innovation is digital photography.
Communication with the child is important. Educating them about bullying is essential and should be made known that it is not tolerable. If your child shares with you that people are being mean to them at school, do not ignore it and dismiss it. It is common for children to down play what is actually going on as a result of feeling embarrassed. On the other hand, if your child shares with you that they have seen another child being bullied, encourage them to talk to their teacher or an adult at school rather than them just stand there and watch it happen.
Why do people bully other people? Is it because of their personal low self- esteem? Is it because it makes them feel better about themselves? Every bully will have a reason for why they bully others , but whatever their reason might be it never makes it a a good reason to hurt someone else. Over 3.2 million million students get bullied each year and over 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying. Several factors increase of a student being bullied which include, parents being over protective of their children, expression of social anxiety, and even an illness or disability. Eight out of ten disabled children will be bullied each year. Some ways you can help prevent bullying are , confront the bully and make it clear that you are

Kodak is the world’s foremost imaging innovator. George Eastman put the first simple camera into the hands of a world of consumers in 1888. In so doing, he made a cumbersome and complicated process easy to use and accessible to nearly everyone. Since that time, the Eastman Kodak Company has led the way with an abundance of new products and processes to make photography simpler, more useful and more enjoyable. With sales of $13.3 billion in 2006, the company is committed to a digitally oriented growth strategy focused on helping people better use meaningful images and information in their life and work. Prior to this course, I knew photography was a part of my every day life. After experiencing this course, I know I knew little about photography. Photography is definitely part of my life, but as I reflect on my sixteen-week progression, I realize that everyone can take a picture but “taking a photograph” as an art. My initial thoughts were that with smart phones we are all “photographers” sharing and it has become part of our visual culture, but not all photos deserve appreciation. Although I believed I had an eye for interesting things and liked to shoot pictures from angles or interesting features, I realized that knowing more about the functions and diversity a quality camera could provide was missing. Photography has been a vital part of my personal history and now will be a bigger part of my life as I am armed with knowledge and experience with angles, lighting, settings and Photoshop so the memories I capture will have a stronger purpose. Point and shoot has transitioned into a passion for finding interest in a subject and utilizing my knowledge to create artful photos. Ordinary or standard shots will be a part of my past. Reflecting on my interest in photography as a potential path for my future, or a part of an overall career choice, I realized that if I continue on a public relations or marketing path, photography will be a critical part of my career. Photography 181 has given me invaluable information that will be carried on into my future in both business and personal arenas. My place in photography will continue to include sports action photography as I am an athlete and appreciate these, as well as in editorial or brand image photography as part of my career.

Photography is relatively simple in comparison to painting, which is a much more complex task. With photography, the composition is already completely arranged, but with a painting the objective is much more open to interpretation by the artist. The artist has the ability to capture much more emotion, understanding, and significance in an event and apply this fiery drive to his paintbrush when creating his own masterpiece.
