Capital Punishment Is Necessary

“Over 500,000 murderers, convicted and undetected, are living in America today” (Death Penalty 55). Keeping the death penalty upheld and established in all states would greatly decrease that number. Something must be done to keep citizens safe and to keep the murder rates low. Capital Punishment is a rightly justified penalty because it is moral retribution, constitutional, and it deters crime.

One reason that Capital Punishment is just is the idea that it is moral retribution to the murderer. According to David Gelernter, the death penalty supporter’s view is that the main goal in executing murderers is to make a point that murder is completely intolerable in today’s society. The purpose is not to avenge or else the victim’s family would choose the method of death. Nor is the main purpose to deter, or the executions would be made public. (“Death Penalty” 54). If the supporter’s of Capital Punishment main goal was to avenge or deter crime, the context of the punishment would be different These methods wouldn’t be justified in our culture by the standards set and judged by people which are called morals. Gelernter continues, citizens and communities have a right and on occasion a duty to speak out and step up to the plate. Every single unlawful death demands a communal retribution. The death penalty is the most powerful response because it cannot be taken back (“Death Penalty” 54). On the occasion of death, it is the duty of people to speak and make themselves heard. This matter of punishment is so important to the nation’s safety that their must be a statement made that murder is completely criminal and all measures are to be taken to ensure the well-being of generations to come and that the murderers actions will n...

...death penalty has a deterrent effect that is logical and statistical. In the constitution it states that the people have a right to be safe. In summary Capital Punishment should stay as it is a key part in keeping humanity in line and restoring the security of living and future generations.
