Dr. Maria Montessori came up with the Montessori Method over 100 years ago. Maria was an Italian educator and physician. She ended up organising the Montessori Method of education for children and, was also the first women to receive a medical degree in 1894. The Montessori Method is in a child-centered educational approach and it’s based on scientific observations from birth to adulthood. Maria based her approach to children on their natural learning tendencies.
Maria Montessori was born in Chiaravalle Italy in 1870. In 1896 she got her degree in medicine and became the first female doctor in Italy. She was a very good doctor and became better known in her field by attending medical conferences around the world. I’m sure it was surprising for other doctors to see her there and I’m sure she carried herself well. She was representing Italy and women in medicine for all the world. Women like her paved the way for female doctors today. Before Ms. Montessori came along, many men and women probably thought a woman couldn't be a doctor.
While working in her own medical practice she began to be interested in how children develop and learn. She loved children and wanted to help them in any way she could. She saw many children in her job and felt a connection with them. She wanted to help them learn. She believed that children learned the most and developed themselves from what they find in their own environments. This made her interested in seeing how a child’s brain works and learns. She studied psychology and philosophy in 1901. She became a professor of anthropology in Rome in 1904.

In conclusion the Montessori Method of learning has been very successful. Maria Montessori was a very good teacher and her method has been really beneficial. Educators remember her as a very important lover of children who did her work for them. Her Method challenges children to learn and develop. When I have a child I would put him or her in a Montessori school. I know he or she would learn well there. Maria Montessori was a woman that changed the learning world. She is remembered every time a child graduates from a Montessori school.

Loui was the child who interact more with the students in the classroom. Also, he was surprise of the things that he was able to do by using his gross motor skills. Charlotte imitate the behavior with the toys that were in the classroom. On the other hand, Benjamin was insecure child that needed to be near his mom/dad. I learned many things from this activity. Montessori believed that this will help them become responsible for their own learning. In addition, she believed that for children to grow and develop skills, adults should let them do everything they are capable of. This will foster children’s independence, and will allow children to take responsibility. Finally she thought that careful observation was the key to determine what the children were interested in or need to learn [Mooney, page 33]. Teacher should take the time to observe children and reflect to better prepare the best possible environment, and to plan curriculum.
Being the eldest of five children, Gesell was relied on to assist in the caring of his siblings and quickly found an interest in the various stages of their physical and mental development. With and interest to pursue a career as a teacher just like his mother, Gesell attended Clark University after graduating high school in 1896. He quickly became interested in the mind’s interworking and how psychology affected the world. Gesell briefly worked as a high school teacher but went back to school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to study phycology with greater depth. After learning about the body, Gesell soon became interested in becoming a physician. He transferred to the University of Wisconsin Medical School; there he developed the Clinic of Child Development and received in M.D. in 1915.
Leonard Covello presented, as a “Teacher with the Heart” by Vitto Perrone is one of many educators who truly loved what he did. Covello, Italian immigrant who came to the U.S. in 1896 with his family seeking better live. As a young man had to leave school and go to work in order to help support his family. Fortunately, returned to school, finished it and became later on one of the best teachers and friends ever. During his school years, his name was changed by one of his teachers from original Leonardo Coviello. He started to question educational system and had awareness of inequality. He was always proud of his culture, love that he had for his students and others came out as a involvement in community centers and formation of Il Italiano Club. As an educator his teaching and help was in hands-on form. Covello was often visiting students’ homes and even use the school for open hours. He had lots of respect for others and anyone could come ask him for help or just to talk. His involvement keeps him in touch with dropped out students and is willing to help them get back to school.
His theory stated that “children actively construct their understanding of the world and go through four stages of cognitive development”. Each stage being dependent on age and comprising of particular ways of thinking. Through observation of children he developed these four stages, believing that all children go through them consecutively during their lifetime.

However, there are three pioneers in education that most influence the education these days: Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Fridrich Froebel, and Maria Montessori.
