Recommended: surviving adversity
For some people its boxing to save their life, and for others its as simple as getting out of bed. Everybody faces different kinds of adversity in their lives and they conquer these in different ways. Some people never face the adversity they are presented with while others can't wait to have it gone. Adversity is the challenges and difficulties people face in their lives. Adversity could be as simple as deciding what you want to eat for lunch, or as complicated as trying to save one’s life. But no matter what level of adversity, it is, you need to find a way to get past it. Some people choose to take a physical approach, such as things like fighting or physically moving something in your way. Other people choose to take a different approach on adversity, such as mental actions or religious actions. But all in all, it doesn't matter what way you choose to face the adversity as long as you get past it. However the best way to face adversity and challenges presented to you is through religion.
On multiple accounts people have chosen to face the adversity in their lives through religion. These religious acts can be as simple as saying a prayer for someone you love or someone you think needs it, or it can be as complicated as switching to a new religion that you feel connected to and more understanding. Most people in this world have a religion that they follow and are very devoted to. Many of those people feel like they are able to make hard times easier on themselves by praying or participating in religious acts. People have been facing their adversities with religious acts since the beginning of time. An example of such would be the ancient Indian tribes such as the Mayans and the Aztecs. They would do human sacrifices to their Go...

Adversity can be defined as a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. Many things in life can bring one adversity, however some are faced with more adversity in their lives than others. Overcoming this adversity can be one of the most difficult things that a person encounters, and at times, it may consume them. People attempt to persevere through adversity in many different ways. One of the most effective ways is to keep pushing through and to never give up. If one loses sight of what is driving them to persevere through adversity, it will swallow them up with no remorse. Staying mentally tough and focused on an end goal is how people not only persevere, but thrive through adversity.
Religion is a symbolic representation of society. The sociological approach to religious belief looks at how society behaves on a whole, to answer the question, “Why are people religious?” We express our participation in religious events through plays, acts of confession, religious dances, etc. To begin to understand why we have such term, let’s understand the common elements of religion. There are different types in which people believe in or follow and that is: animatism, animism, ancestral spirits, god and goddesses, and minor supernatural beings. Beyond these different elements, such one is to have religious leaders to follow.
Success without adversity is impossible. Everyone in life has their ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. Then there are others that would crawl back into their shells, crying for mercy. There should be no excuse for giving up or not putting in the effort. People are only successful in winning the battle of adversity when they are mentally tough. The intense game of adversity can be referred to football.
Imagine that you’ve been suffering through a time of immense hardship and you are economically disadvantaged. You haven’t eaten in days, you’re home is about to be foreclosed, and you are hopeless about finding employment. You take what little food you have left, scrounge together whatever possessions of yours that have value, and for good measure throw in your first-born son. Taking all of these items, you then light them on fire and utterly destroy them. If this happened today, no doubt would a person be arrested and deemed a risk to himself and others. But for centuries, people carried out these sacrificial rituals, wasting precious resources and time & energy, in hopes that things would get better. Religion is immensely costly both in terms of resources and time. We know that the most evolutionary fit creatures do not waste their energy on pointless tasks and that everything done in life is because the reward is bigger than the risk. So we ask ourselves, what is the reward of following religion given its immense expenditure. How has religion survived for so long and what does it offer to those who follow it? Furthermore, how did religion come to being and what purpose did it serve in the early days of its inception? When human beings first invented agriculture and settled down, the foundations of society began shaping. Tribes grew and became more permanent, people interacted with each other in more sophisticated ways, and civilization formed. Through this communal “puberty”, culture was born and memes (ideas, behaviors, and styles that spread from person to person) came to being. If we look at religion through an inverse perspective, one that says human society and culture developed religion as opposed to religion dictating so...
Religion comes from religare, which means have a reunion. Aneel Baquer says that humans have a need to connect with others, the ability of myths and thoughts of religion is a desire that humans need to bond. In most civilizations, religion is the reason why civilizations are successful. Religion give, people a motive to survive or do what they do. Sometimes the religions actually make their civilization expand and even more successful. not only does religion give us a motive to survive. Still today, religion is one of the biggest factors in modern civilizations. In several religion motives are used for example, christianity. In christianity to meet with god, you must do good. Religion can change a persons personality by aiding from stress, to giving hope. Religion can also reduce the fear of death. In ancient civilizations, egyptians did not fear death. In their religion they believed that living on earth was the beginning of life. Once dead it sends you to the beginning of happiness or horrible. Religion can also expand. If you have a strong connection to your religion, some people spread the word of their religion to other people. It also teaches manners and the difference between the good, and the evil. Vikings were such a significant civilization than any other because of their religion. Religion for the vikings have given them motivation to expand territories, learn between the good and the bad, and not to fear death but to welcome death; reasons why are from being taught was from viking mythology, heroic people and their warlike god.
Religion plays a lot of roles in many different cultures. Most things are religion based like in the United States. We are based off Christianity in many different things. In East and Southeast Asia, religion had a big role in shaping the modern history.
Though there are many religions that are still practiced in the world, it is important to see what role they play in culture and thinking. When religion is taken in healthy amounts with a strong mind, religion can be a blessing and a gift to people everywhere. It can provide hope to people who need it the most, while inspiring others to take action and make positive changes. However, overdosing on religion can cause equal amounts of pain and anger.
Religion has always been able to give people something to look to for help. It answers their questions and gives them hope for the future. In the Christian faith, followers are taught that Christ will help them if they believe and follow Him. The painting by Carl Bloch Christ Healing at the Pool of Bethesda is a prime example of Christ helping and healing those who are experiencing times of hopelessness, and need someone to turn to. Religion is what helps ground people and gives them hope. If we didn’t have religion people would be lost and in darkness.
Religion is intertwined with culture, economics, politics, and modern social relationships on every dimension. Whether you attend a cathedral, a synagogue, or a mosque, habitually, intermittently, or abstain entirely, you simply cannot escape religion.
Religion is a constant in every society, in many cases, it was created to help understand the things that cannot have been explained and to give them hope as to what happened after they died. However, not all societies had the same religious beliefs. Which is why religion had different impacts in the societies, in some cases religion was the biggest part of their lives and in some places, such as the United States of America, religion is not necessarily part of everyone’s life. If religion is something that the individual devotes their life to it does not have to be the same religion of the person who lives down the street. Nonetheless, it is still around and during the French revolution, Crusades and the Reformation it had a major impact on the daily lives of the people in the country.
So, events are a matter of relativity.Light and darkness, both can co-exist together. Thus, two seemingly opposing view points and philosophies can also co-exist.In a conflict, one has to establish some sort of adjustment. One who cannot adjust with others, cannot live peacefully in a family.A family is a small unit and provides a small experiment for the practice of non-violence.The one who cannot practice non-violence in a family, cannot be religious in the true sense.Once, a young boy came to me and said- “my father thinks he is religious and so he performs 5-7 samayik per day and spends most of his time with saints but he is the one who fights the most, in our family. If I have to learn how to fight, then why should I go to a religious place? The marketplace is quite
Throughout the course of history, man has looked to religion for answers. Curiosity as to how we got here and why we are have driven people to seek out answers to these somewhat unanswerable questions. Over the past few thousand years, several varying religions have been established, some more prominent than others. Many of them share a similar story of a divine creator who has always been and will always be. In the case of Christianity, whether true or not, it has proven to be beneficial to society as a whole. The Bible set the standard for the moral compass that humans live their lives by to this day. The key fundamental problem with religion, although not the fault of religion, is that man has often used it as a gateway to power and prominence. In the case of the 18th century Gallican church, the French were abusing their religious powers, thus creating vast inequality throughout France, which eventually led to a rebellion against the church, and the eventual destruction of the church within France.
Humans are often swayed to carry out the desires of a higher being, for they believe that they are thusly destined to some great reward. This is supported in the Christian doctrine where if you are a good person you have a chance to live in paradise. Other religions have a similar structure to this including Hinduism, which through the karma system the better of a person you are the higher status you will become in your next life. This way of thinking dates back to ancient times with ancient Greek Mythology, for you are supposed to appease the gods in order to gain their favor, for instance if you are going into battle you would try to appease the God of War, Ares. Religion has also sparked a great deal of conflict throughout history.
Religion has made people blind, dumb and deaf to the reality. They have faith without reasoning which is blind. On the contrary, it has often made people to become bigots and fanatics. Bigotry and fanaticism have led to persecution, inhuman treatment and misery in the past.
Religion helps establish mankind’s place in the order of the universe. As civilization began to be established through the domestication of animals, the irrigation and cultivation of agricultural crops, and life became more complex (moving from mainly a hunter/gather existence to one that could settle down and have more time to consider advanced ideas) people began to consider questions such as, where life comes from, is there a creator or creators who helped make the world, and what happens after we die. Religion helped answer some of these questions. It gave people purpose, meaning, and perspective. Religion helped establish nations in the case of religious theocratic governments. In many of the ancient civilizations, such as the Egyptians, the Mayans, and even Mesopotamia, the priests and other religious leaders played prominent roles in help shaping the laws and government of these civilizations. As his...
