How often do you hear teachers requesting for smaller classes? Does grading assignments and tests for big classes make you stressed and tired? It has be proven that reducing class sizes improves grades and behavior for most students. Issues that concern the staff is that we would have to hire more teachers and find more classroom space. Reducing class sizes is a good educational effort for the students of Valley Center Schools because it would positively change the behavior in students, students will receive more one-on-one time with teachers, and our teachers would want smaller classes.

Reducing class sizes lets teachers and students have more one-on-one time together. Sara Rimm-Kaufman says “Improving students' relationships with teachers has important, positive and long-lasting implications for students' academic and social development" ("Improving Students' Relationships with Teachers to Provide Essential Supports for Learning"). When a student feels a connection with the teacher they will be more trustful and understanding with the teacher. Rimm-Kaufman also went on to say that when students have more one-on-one with the teacher, the teacher gets to see what the students need help with ("Improving Students' Relationships with Teachers to Provide Essential Supports for Learning"). Students who are in bigger classes don’t get as much help as compared to the students who have reduced or smaller classes because the teacher does not have enough time to help every student. For Valley Center Middle School the student to teacher ratio is 25 to 1. Staff is concerned that we won't have enough classroom space. Teachers asking for smaller classes frequently can get very annoying. Grading papers are very stressful. The information that we have given you proves that students do receive more individual time with the teacher, the student reduction would positively affect the behavior in the students at VCMS, and reducing class sizes would be a good idea because teacher would appreciate it. Positive behavior in students is the outcome of a quite and good learning environment due to smaller classes. Individual time between teachers and students lets teachers help the students more. And teachers would be in favor of reducing class sizes so they are less stressed and tired from grading assignments and tests for big classes. We would like to see reduction of class sizes for Valley Center Middle School so we can all improve academically.
