Imagine all of the people that die in accidents such as car crashes, fires, falls, and poisoning each year. If you add all of these together and then multiply that number by four, you get the number of people that die because of smoking each year! Smoking is the leading preventable cause of death in the U.S. Each year more than 480,000 people die because of smoking. This is just one of the many reasons why I believe that cigarette smoking should be banned in public areas. I will argue this point in three ways. First, I will argue that the health effects of smoking are so harmful that cigarettes should not be allowed in public areas. Next, I will argue that the negative effects go beyond just health, but to the money of people affected by smoking as well. Finally, I will argue that smoking should be banned because it is becoming the cool thing to do in our culture.
The health effects of smoking cigarettes are so severe that there is no reason why they should be legal in public places. Smoking is very harmful to the health of the smoker in more ways than one would think. Smoking affects almost every organ in the entire body and can cause cancer in most of them. Smoking can also cause several other terrible diseases such as Cardiovascular Disease and Respiratory Disease. Smoking also causes many different forms of cancer. Smoking causes bladder, blood (acute myeloid leukemia), cervix, colon and rectum (colorectal), esophagus, kidney and ureter, larynx, liver, oropharynx (includes parts of the throat, tongue, soft palate, and the tonsils), pancreas, stomach, trachea, bronchus, and lung cancer. As you can see, smoking is especially harmful to the health of the smoker.

Smoking can cause many lung and heart diseases as well as many forms of cancer.
Smoking has become a big epidemic in the United States. As a tobacco free person, I want to be able to breathe clean air anywhere I go. As we know, smoking can harm every organ in the body (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). I believe that smoking should be banned in public places such as drinking establishments, hospitals, buses, train stations, and restaurants. Not only does smoking affect the individual smoker, it also causes a number of health problems, increases death rate, and it affects not only the lives, but the health of other people around them. On the contrary, smoking should be banned in public areas for these reasons.
Ever since earlier years, when cigarettes came into market, people have had the right to make the decision of whether or not they want to smoke. But for some people, this is not a choice. This creates the problem of second-hand smoke, which is more harmful than people think. Second hand smoke has been liable to increase the risk of lung cancer by three times. Cigarette smoke contains a deadly mixture of carbon monoxide, nicotine, and more than 4,000 other chemicals, many of which cause cancer and heart disease. The smoke that appears off the end of an idle burning cigarette is even more toxic than inhaled smoke because the tobacco is smouldering at a lower temperature and is therefore burning less efficiently. When you sit in a smoky room, office, restaurant or bar, you can't help breathing in some of these toxic gases, particles, and chemicals. Some of the tar stays in your lungs. Small amounts of nicotine and carbon monoxide pass into your bloodstream. After half an hour, your blood pressure and heartbeat rise measurably. This means that extra stress is being placed on your heart. ...
Smoking can cause problems all over the body and in just about every body system. Cigarettes contain over six-hundred ingredients and can produce over seven-thousand chemicals when burned. Many of those chemicals are poisonous and sixty-nine of them can cause cancer. The main ingredient in cigarettes that causes the addiction is nicotine. Nicotine can make its way to the brain in mere seconds and make you feel energetic but after a while you will become tired and crave more. As you begin to smoke and more your lungs begin to lose its power of being able to filter harmful chemicals. This makes smokers more vulnerable to little infections such as a cold or even the flu. Some of the most obvious signs of smoker begin with the outside of the body. Smoking will soon produce wrinkles and premature aging and will cause other to be able to see the outcome of smoking against the younger generation of people. (Health
This year alone cigarettes will kill over 420,000 Americans, and many more will suffer from cancers, and circulatory and respiratory system diseases. These horrible illnesses were known to come from cigarettes for years. Recently the Food and Drug Administration declared nicotine, the main chemical in cigarettes, addictive. This explains why smokers continue to use cigarettes even though smokers are aware of the constantly warned about health dangers in cigarettes. Some researchers have also found out that smoking by pregnant women causes the deaths of over 5,000 babies and 115,000 miscarriages. The only way to get rid of the suffering and loss of life by cigarettes is to ban them. . For years cigarettes have been known to cause cancer, emphysema, and other horrible illnesses. The deaths of over 420,000 of Americans this year will be do to cigarettes. With all the other causes of deaths, alcohol, illegal drugs, AIDS, suicide, transportation accidents, fires, and guns, cigarettes still count for more deaths than those do combined. We can’t stand and watch people die because they smoke cigarettes. Thousands of smokers try to rid themselves of cigarettes but can't because of additive nicotine. Nicotine was recently declared addictive by the Food and Drug Administration, which explains why many smokers continue to smoke despite the health warnings on cigarette smoking. Nicotine makes it almost impossible for cigarette smokers to quit smoking because of its addictive nature, and with the cigarette manufacturers putting just enough nicotine in the so they cant be outlawed. The benefits of outlawing cigarettes greatly outnumber the disadvantages, for example, many scientists believe a link between smoking and a shortened life span exists between the two, a ban on cigarettes could increase life spans. Many studies suggest that billions of dollars now spent on smoking related. Smoking related illnesses could be reduced by outlawing cigarettes, families could save money by not purchasing cigarettes, and accidental fires costing millions of dollars caused by cigarettes would stop. Although a complete ban on cigarettes currently remains almost impossible, several organizations recently helped create a bill that could control cigarettes much in the same way the government now controls drugs. One such organization, the Food and Drug Administration, headed by David Kesslar drafted a major part, which would require manufacturers to disclose the 700 chemical additives in cigarettes, reduce the level of harmful chemicals, require cigarette companies to warn of the addictive nicotine, restrict tobacco advertising and promotion, and control the level of nicotine cigarettes contain.

As most of you know, smoking is bad for your health, but what some of you might not know is that you don’t actually have to smoke to be harmed by smoking. Lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women, is mainly caused by cigarette smoking. Secondhand smoking causes approximately 2 percent of lung cancer deaths each year. It causes respiratory disease, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), middle ear disease, and asthma attacks in children.
Smoking is injurious to health which can cause anyone deadly diseases. “Tar in cigarette smoke paralyzes the cilia in the lungs” (Newman). The parts in cigarettes have different causes to y health which is a dark thick flammable liquid distilled from wood or coal, causing of a mixture of hydrocarbons, resins, alcohol and other compound. Also, research states, “Smoking triples the risk of developing thyroid disease ” (Newman). This can be contagious which can happen to a second-hand smoker. Additionally,” Smoking also reduces sperm density and their motility, increasing the risk for infertility’’ (Newman). Fourthly, “Smoking double the risk of ischemic stroke” (Newman). The ischemic stroke reduces blood flow to the brain which can cause a person death. Moreover, “50% of young deaths, below age 65 from heart disease are caused by smoking” (Newman). The reason is because of the harmful chemical and ingredients in the cigarette. Finally, Smoking can give people deadly effects that can change anyone’s life in the future.
Cigarette smoking is very harmful for both smoker, non- smokers and the environment. People who smoke in just show how inconsiderate they are towards others. Even the people who do not smoke in public places are selfish. They do not consider the affect smoking might have on them and how that will affect their family and the environment. Cigarettes cause hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths each year and that is why cigarettes need to be made illegal.
Should you be able to smoke? Smoking should be banned all around the the United States. Smoking causes more deaths per year than anything else. It causes twice as many deaths as HIV/Aids ,illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injury and firearm-related incidents combined. Estimates show that smoking increases the risk of coronary heart disease by 3 to 5 times a year. Smoking also causes 85% of lung cancer, by damaging your airways and the small air sacs found in your lungs. Other diseases are COPD, which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis.

Most people would think that cigarette smoking can cause many health issues and diseases after looking at the ingredients used, and they are right. Periodontitis, Peptic ulcers, Erectile dysfunction, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Cancer, and cardiovascular disease are just a few of the diseases that can be caused from smoking cigarettes. Smoking may also increase the chance of heart disease, stroke, atherosclerosis, and peripheral vascular disease. Tobacco has also been linked to Buerger 's disease, Oral disease and some infection throughout the body has also been caused by smoking
Smoking is a simple process of inhaling and exhaling the fumes of burning tobacco, but it has deadly consequences. According to the American Cancer Society, smoking is the most preventable cause of death in America today (Encarta, 2002). Until the 1940?s, smoking was considered harmless. It was at this time that epidemiologists noticed a dramatic increase in the cases of lung cancer. A study was then conducted between smokers and nonsmokers to determine if cigarettes were the cause of this increase. This study, conducted by the American Cancer Society, found increased mortality among smokers. Yet it was not until 1964 that the Surgeon General put out a report acknowledging the danger of cigarettes. The first action to curb smoking was the mandate of a warning on cigarette packages by the Federal Trade Commission (Encarta, 2002). In 1971, all cigarette advertising was banned from radio and television, and cities and states passed laws requiring nonsmoking sections in public places and workplaces (Encarta, 2002). Now in some cities smoking is being completely banned from public places and workplaces and various people are striving for more of these laws against smoking.
All in all cigarettes only have negative health effects on your health. According to the CDC men who smoke die 13.2 years earlier than men who do not smoke and women die 14.5 years earlier than women who do not smoke. These are the reasons I believe that cigarettes should be illegal.
