Dan Moller defends the argument he calls “the bachelor’s argument,” which is an “argument against marriage.” By pointing out how not everyone that gets married isn’t guaranteed a happy and successful out come, such as a happy and loving marriage. If we were follow through with the bachelor’s argument as if it was set standard set in stone, not giving marriage a chance could possibly lead to the lose of one finding true because they never got a chance to marry the person they thought they’d love and could have lasting relationship. Moller argument isn’t enough to reject marriage as a whole because it just emphasizes of the things that could go wrong in a marriage and how hard it’d be to get out of such a commitment.

According to Moller placing a person in the peculiar situation of a loveless marriage isn’t necessary is they don’t marry in the first place. Moller mentions how people should consider how “in countries where getting a divorce is not difficult and doesn’t carry much social stigma, a great many people choose to get divorce […] the rate is typical over 40% and frequent over 50%.”(Moller, An Argument Against Marriage Pg 80). Statistics play a heavy influence on Muller’s decision on why people shouldn’t marry. Just because divorces are more in common in cultures where there isn’t a stigma for doing so, it shouldn’t be reason for people to hold back in giving up their chances of establishing a successful marriage. Statistics in the Fox News report “High School Graduation Rates Plummet Below 50 Percent in Some U.S. Cities” Just because half of high school students aren’t graduating in certain cities that doesn’t mean half of all incoming freshmen should just drop out high school because there is 50 percent chance they won...

...ationship will succeed. The inability of being able to ensure a successful relationship is what lowers Moller away from the idea of marriages being a good idea because of how easily it is for people to get divorced and how unpredictable humans themselves can be. People can loose interest in their spouse and be stuck in loveless relationship, which isn’t necessary and could all be avoided if people didn’t marry in the first place. However marriage isn’t a gamble like a game of Russian roulette, it’s a relationship built on the hope of having prosperous relationship that will eventually create a family. If one doesn’t give an intent to have a successful marriage they won’t loose anything if things work out and the couple loves each other. They will loose more if they never give it a try. If for some reason things don’t work out they can just as easily get a divorce.
