Awakening the society from the silence
There are a number of ways to create silence and noise today is the most common way to create silence. The sound of silence connotes a meaning of our inability to communicate with one another in the midst of our own voice in which it builds barriers that separate people from others. The key for better relationship in people, community, society and the world is to challenge and fight for decentralization of power that ultimately leads to silence of the public.
In the first stanza of the song, it is showing the speaker had feelings of remoteness while he was talking to his old friend ‘darkness’ for unspecified period of time. Talking with silence, where stillness has taken place, can be defined as solitude and loneliness. The reason behind the speaker resort to solitude and loneliness is because a vision was one that gives distress on him. In this case, if vision acts as a threat that oppresses and retreats instead of progressing and moving forwards to bright future, solace has to be a shelter which needs to be in place to defend one’s loneliness and feeling of isolation. “walked alone” in the second stanza, it seems that the speaker has a dream and shows an earnest craving to escape from lethargic ennui and weariness. No one would understand his feeling until the right time comes. (Simon, 1964, par. 1, 2)

Barriers are typically unfavourable to a human relationship that should be avoided and it is not an easy task what people today can steadily maintain in common. The public should communicate with each other to confront against a power of capitalism, political power, and a dark side of the current society to break the silence as well as to regain the true freedom that once slowly taken away by fences built with centralization of power.

Silence — the sound of quiet, the state of mind, the lack of meaning — all these pertain to its definition. Communication is expanding, noise is increasing, music is becoming more obtainable as people search desperately for a moment of peace or a breeze of silence. In Orfield Laboratories, Minnesota there exists a room known as an anechoic chamber. Anechoic means free from echoes, the room measures at -9 decibels. 45 minutes marks the longest time anyone has spent in there alone. Lacking outside noises, the quietude of the room allows those inside to hear their own internal organs; occasionally hallucinations occur. The chamber amplifies an unknown fear, dead silence and extreme loneliness. Like many things, silence has a multitude of advantages, but extreme silence can prove devastation. In Chaim Potok’s The Chosen silence as a theme demonstrates destructivity. Devastation caused by silence is shown through Reb’s parenting methods, Danny’s silence between his father, and Reuven’s various experiences with silence.
The title of this essay “Silence and the Notion of the Commons” gives the same idea of people as programmable and unprogrammable similar to the idea seen in the Matrix. Whereas programmable people, who are the commons, are the people inside the matrix they are also known as the sheep, the people that believe in everything they are told. The unprogrammable people, who are the silence, are the people outside of the matrix. Ursula Franklin uses a variety of techniques in order for the audience to fully understand her message, and to inform them of the topics discussed in her essay, as is particularly apparent in paragraph 5 of her essay “Silence and the Notion of the Commons.”
There is much strength associated with both speech and silence. One can use either to their advantage in a power struggle. In the book One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Randle Patrick McMurphy and Nurse Ratched employ the power of speech and Chief Bromden uses the power of silence until the end of the novel when he gains the power of speech. These cases prove that the greatest power is not held in speech or silence alone, but in the effective combination of the two.
James Thurber had many set backs in college. Thurber challenges society and the traditions of modern universities. In the essay "University Days" Thurber mocks the hegemonic structure of schools. He gives examples of the many outdated practices still used today. Thurber disagrees with many of the standard methods of teaching and gives examples of failures in amusing situations to hold the attention of his young audience.
When you’re silent, other people feel uncomfortable. They often try to fill the silence, so they reveal more about themselves and what they like to do. It’s actually a tactic that law enforcement uses to get people to confess. Quiet people listen to all the problems around them and can come up with the best solution to the problems. Problem solvers are very important or else we would just have problem, after problem, and it would never get anything done.

Experts argue that the reason the code of silence exists is out of protective aspirations against social pressure, social isolation, limited discretion, authority, and lack of independence (Ivkovic, 2010).
The poem talks about people being sick of society, and want to be isolated from it. Even in the first line, he made an analogy between December being dark and dingy, by saying "A winter's day - in a deep and dark December." The month of December is usually likened to being cold, dark, and 'dangerous'. He also says that it is a lonely December in the second line where he says "I am alone gazing from my window to the street below" he feels left out, and now wants to be left alone, like an island, or a rock. Like in the second poem, where he says that he "has no need of friendship."
From the first stanza of this song, you get put into a scene. You know almost immediately that it is about someone, and it is the middle of December, but without stating the obvious, it paints a more illustrated picture for you. The first line states, “A winters day, in a deep and dark December” and I could almost immediately feel a cool breeze around me. When I normally think of a winter’s day, I think of people playing in the snow, and having a good time. This may be because I grew up in Southern California where there has been a lack of snow, but in my head, that is what I imagine. Having them state, in a deep and dark December, turns my attitudes to the more pessimistic way of looking at things. The image of children playing in the snow in my head has now turned to cold and dark emptiness. Reinstating my idea of emptiness, the next line follows with the simply statement, “I am alone”. Personally, I hate being alone. So to have the opening words place us in a deep and dark setting, and then state that you are alone, automatically puts me in a negative mindset.

The poem “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” by William Wordsworth is about the poet’s mental journey in nature where he remembers the daffodils that give him joy when he is lonely and bored. The poet is overwhelmed by nature’s beauty where he thought of it while lying alone on his couch. The poem shows the relationship between nature and the poet, and how nature’s motion and beauty influences the poet’s feelings and behaviors for the good. Moreover, the process that the speaker goes through is recollected that shows that he isolated from society, and is mentally in nature while he is physically lying on his couch. Therefore, William Wordsworth uses figurative language and syntax and form throughout the poem to express to the readers the peace and beauty of nature, and to symbolize the adventures that occurred in his mental journey.
Noise keeps a message from being understood and achieving its intended effect.” In verbal and non-verbal noise can be “literal—the obnoxious roar of a power lawn mower—or it can be psychological, such as competing thoughts, worries, and feelings that capture our attention.” Whether it is literal or psychological, noise can be a major issue in verbal and non-verbal communication because it can distort the message that is being conveyed. In this case, an issue can occur with verbal communication is when literal noise will disrupt the message—possibly making the message distorted. For example, if your aunt asks you to babysit your cousin for the weekend, but then you hear the child screaming and crying the entire time you are communicating with your aunt—that could cause you to think twice about babysitting the child. Because the child (noise) is screaming and crying while your aunt is asking you to babysit—the noise got in the way of the message that was being
