Awa Thiam speaks on the topic of the daughters of black Africa trying to find themselves. She also states the comparison of the black women struggle with the European women. Thiam is arguing the point that the European feminist imposed the false argument “Rape is to women what lynching is to Blacks” (Thiam 114). Awa text does not only speak of the false argument in the matter of defending white women being raped compared to black being lynched. She defends the Feminist movement overall. Unlike the European feminist, Awa acknowledges the fact that women are being treated unfairly by men and the system. The claim that the European feminist weighs only for the white females, Awa is addressing the fact that she cares about the humanity of all females, especially the black female that has been raped and lynched. The gender inequalities of colonial Haiti were clearly not lost in the post-colonial era and are indeed still not lost; they are merely disguised. While it is true that Haitian women are still far from achieving full equality and the struggles of Haitian feminists still continue, these feminist movements are a step in the right direction. However, it will take a lot of realization from the men of Haiti and especially those in power for these movements to achieve their goals.
African literature is rich with examples of the plight that African women suffered during the political and social changes the continent experienced after colonialism. In Ama Aito Aidoo’s short story “Two Sisters”, and “Wedding at the Cross”, the lives of three different women are explored as they navigate a world dominated by not only the men in their lives, but by the omnipresent feeling of colonialism. The women in Aidoo’s “Two Sisters” Mercy and Connie, represent some of the difficulties perpetrated by the rigid societal structure they exist under, and the oppressing force of the men in their lives. Similarly, in “Wedding at the Cross”, the main female protagonist, Miriamu, is bound by societal pressures to assume the role of obedient housewife, and undergoes a loss of self after her husband is consumed with gaining success in post-colonial Africa. Through these stories Aiddo and Thiongo’o represent African women and their struggles as well as their journey to assert themselves independently from the men in their life and their society during a time where the continent itself was struggling with its own identity in the aftermath of Western colonization.
The purpose of this paper is to look at slavery in The East Indies from a female’s point of view. The Europeans came to the East Indies and took over the land and its resources. I believe that this was wrong because it was unreasonable to use the wealth of the East Indies to purchase slaves. In addition, I believe that women and children in particular should have been allowed to have their freedom.

She expresses her concern for the oppression of Black women in the media due to the constant overlap between prostitution and Black women. In order to make a more appealing case, Clark was forced to distinguish herself from the ‘common’ black prostitute, which ironically placed her in a position to intentionally or unintentionally further perpetuate the common stereotypical assumptions mainstream society has on Black women. Austin expands on this point by calling on black women to form a ‘sisterhood’ that seeks to unify both deviant and non-deviant African American women. She asserts that Black women need to better understand the difference between deviance and difference within their lives in order to create a more united class of African American females. Interestingly, she ends on the notion that she expects change from within by stating, “only we can deliver ourselves into freedom”, in order to articulate the urgency of a collective transformation. Austin’s scholarship, however, touches on a larger scholarly discourse that pertains to the notion of post-colonialism and strategic essentialism in the discipline. In the article, Rape, Racism, and the Myth of the Black Rapist, the author, Angela Davis, discusses on the creation of the myth of the black rapist. This article brings two main ideas together to in order to make a valid argument to why both claims are false and hold no legitimacy. Davis argues that one was created in order to cover up for the other I order to veil the true offenders of sexual abuse. Davis also elaborates on the issue by adding to the argument and stating that white women are also being affected by these myths in a negative way because of the women’s bodies are being perceived as a right.
They have been mistreated and stepped on by those who attain more power. They have been taken advantage of, abused, and even killed. These women have been forced to give up their own bodies. The right to be a female has been taken away from them. Their bodies have become properties to those in higher control of them. Andrea Smith states that, “The history of sexual violence and genocide among Native women illustrates how gender violence functions as a tool for racism and colonialism.” (2005; p. 15). This history of sexual violence has become a tool for those in power to profit from these women’s bodies. For example, while colonists used sexual power to get rid of the indigenous people white slave owners used sexual violence against black women to increase their profits. (Class notes). Like black women, the Native women were also seen as “rapable,” and their rapes simply, “didn’t count.” (2005; p. 10). Native women’s bodies were free to take, the goal was to subdue and control their bodies and their lands. (Class notes). Feminist theory is a term that embraces a wide variety of approaches to the questions of a women’s place and power in culture and society. Two of the important practices in feminist critique are raising awareness of the ways in which women are oppressed, demonized, or marginalized, and discovering motifs of female awakenings. The Help is a story about how black females “helped” white women become “progressive” in the 1960’s. In my opinion, “The Help” I must admit that it exposes some of our deepest racial, gender, and class wounds as individuals and social groups, and that the story behind the story is a call to respect our wounds and mutual wounding so that healing may have a chance to begin and bring social injustice to an end. The relationship between Blacks and whites in this novel generally take on the tone of a kindly, God-fearing Jesus Christ-loving Black person, placidly letting blacks and whites work out their awkwardness regarding race and injustice. Eventually both the black and white women realize how similar they are after all, and come to the conclusion that racism is an action of the individual person, a conclusion mutually exclusive of racism as an institutionalized system that stands to demonize and oppress people based on the color of their skin and the location of their ancestry.

Chinua Achebe wrote the novel, Things Fall Apart, which is a great piece of African literature that deals with the Igbo culture, history, and the taking over of African lands by British colonization. The ongoing gender conflict is a prominent theme in Things Fall Apart presenting the clash between men and women of the African Igbo society. Throughout history, from the beginning of time to today, women have frequently been viewed as inferior, men’s possessions whose sole purpose was to satisfy the men’s needs. Maybe it's because men are physically stronger than women and have always had the ability to control them that way. In Things Fall Apart, the Igbo women were perceived as being weak. They received little or no respect in the Igbo society and were harshly abused. The recurring theme of gender conflicts helps drive the novel Things Fall Apart by showing how important women are to the men, yet they do not receive the treatment they deserve.
