Introduction Parenting a child from infant to the adult stage is a full-time responsibility that every parent takes on. The type of style used to socialize their children to conform adequately to the expected standards of conduct to function successfully in their society is the option that is decided by each parent. Since there are different ways of parenting a child, it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the child’s behavior is sufficient to live in society let alone act compliant in it as well. It is interesting to observe the different methods that a variety of parents demonstrate in order to make sure that the children of that society will be considered ‘acceptable’ by the environment itself and of course by the parenting skills that parents possess. The problem area that will be introduced in my empirical research report is based on the different types of parenting styles and the effects that each style has on a child’s behavior. The importance of the problem tends to come as a result of the child’s behavior that the child possesses later in life and how the child responds in society. It is crucial that the children are well-developed in their early years so that avoidable behavioral problems do not occur later on. The purpose of this study was to show that there is a direct relationship between different parenting styles and the behavior effects on young children. The majority of the studies that have been conducted in the past have observed different parenting styles and children’s behavior were based on families with adolescents. The proposed study suggest that the parent’s of younger children should be examined more carefully so that those parents can have a better idea as to how to improve their way of ra... ... middle of paper ... ...umrind, D. Parenting is one of the things in life where there is not a rulebook and there are a lot of beliefs on how to raise children. Parents tend to raise their children based on their childhood experiences whether they were good or bad. Some parents raise their children just like they were raised and some raise their children differently because they don’t agree with the way their parents raised them. Parenting styles are based on the ideals and beliefs parents have about raising their children. Research shows that parenting styles directly affect how children behave in and out of school. Students may be presented with
Every family is unique in dynamic and nature. Parenting styles within families vary depending on circumstance and principal. What defines parenting styles is the approach that parents take on raising their children and the psychological and social effects it has on their child’s development. These parenting techniques influence children’s lifestyle and beliefs with lasting effects into adulthood. In the research article Child self-esteem and different parenting styles of mother’s: cross-sectional study discusses “Parenting style refers to the practices adopted by parents during their children’s growth and socialization stages and how the children are controlled” (Moghaddam 2). Developmental
Previously, I had gained some of my knowledge of parenting strategies and styles from family and other classes I have taken in the family and child studies department. Over the course of this semester, I have been introduced to even more parenting strategies, theories, and discipline strategies that I believe would be effective in parenting. Reading the textbook, and the in class discussions have given me a deeper insight to what the ideas and the positive outcomes are using strategies that have been backed up by research.
A parent’s parenting styles are as diverse as the world we live in today. Nowadays, parents only want what is best for their children and their parenting styles plays a crucial role in the development of children which will in the long run, not only effect the child’s childhood years, but later prolong into their adult life as well.
The type of approach to discipline a child that the parents use have a dramatic impact on their relationship between them and the child’s development to adulthood. Research have found that there are four major types of parenting styles depending on what parents think the child needs from them. These are authoritarian, authoritative, permissive and uninvolved. The purpose is to explain the difference between them and the effect on their child development.
Growing up, two group of people, parents, and grandparents, took the time and the energy to raise me. Both of them had different approaches when raising me. These approaches were different parenting styles. According to Baumrind, parenting style was the “[capturing] normal variations in parents’ attempts to control and socialize their children” (Darling, 1999). To put it simply, parenting style goal was to lecture, influence, and discipline a child. In general, there are four parenting styles with their own specific benefits and disadvantages. Furthermore, parenting style, granted the dynamic of the family was understood, can be identified in families.
Parenting styles are very diverse and you can come across many depending on the parent. Raising a child can be very challenging and a huge responsibility on the parent, because many people often question what goes on in the child’s home. It is also often said that what a child is experiencing or learning in their home is how they will behave in public. The style of parenting can affect how the child socialize with others and even how well they are able to deal with life situations as they get older. There are four different parenting styles that are often used today, authoritative, neglectful, permissive, and authoritarian. Diana Baumrind, a psychologist who conducted research on parenting styles. Baumrind, came up with three of the four parenting
It can be said for most parents that they want their children to grow up to be successful contributing members of society. Being a parent is a difficult, yet rewarding task. But why do some types of parenting result in juvenile delinquency while others find success. There are four generally recognized parenting styles and are categorized: authoritarian, permissive, neglectful, and authoritative. This essay will break down the various styles, its type(s) of discipline and effectiveness.
The universality versus cultural specificity debate both have aspects that make sense and can be applied to childhood development. On one side, supporters of the argument for the universality of parenting suggest that certain types of parenting styles will produce the same child development outcomes in different cultures. On the other hand, the argument for cultural specificity states that different parenting practices vary from culture to culture, and that culture ultimately determines the outcomes of child development. Each culture has specific styles of parenting that instill values on children particular to that culture. Each individual has characteristics of what their parents taught them, which gives every individual their own personality. Both sides present logical information on the cultural impacts of parenting on child development outcomes.

Successful parenting may be judged by many different standards. Raising a child to be a respectful, mature, and independent adult requires a great deal of effort. There are several parenting styles, and not all lead a child to reaching their full potential. Overpowering sternness leads may lead to a rebellious child, while passive parenting may lead children to inept for the challenges of adulthood. Parenting requires more than teaching children submissiveness, or building of self-importance. Children learn best from a role model who is admirable. Parenting is a great opportunity to set the course of one’s entire life in the right direction.
Would you have come out different if your parents used a different parenting style? If you are considered “cool” now could you have come out a nerd if your parents would have used a different parenting style? “Parenting style is one of the primary determinants of your child’s outcome whether he succeeds, achieves, meets the challenges, flounders, gives up, or runs from or fails in handling life.” (6) The purpose of this paper is to describe the outcomes, processes, labor, and techniques of parenting in a psychological point of view. Parenting styles are defined as the “manner in which parents express their beliefs on how to be a good or bad parent.” (4) Each parenting style has its weaknesses and strengths. All parents incorporate love and limit in their style of parenting. There are four different types of parenting styles: authoritarian, permissive, democratic, and uninvolved parents.
Each different parenting style each comes with pros and cons. In regards to parenting, there is never a wrong or right answer because every child and circumstances are different when it comes to the importance of the positive and negative effects. But each style comes with its effects on children. A few pros about Authoritarian parents are that their...
Parents and their parenting style play an important role in the development of their child. In fact, many child experts suggest that parenting style can affect a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological development which influence not just their childhood years, but it will also extend throughout their adult life. This is because a child’s development takes place through a number of stimuli, interaction, and exchanges that surround him or her. And since parents are generally a fixed presence in a child’s life, they will likely have a significant part on the child’s positive or negative development (Gur 25).
Parenting styles have the capacity of influencing a child’s social, cognitive, and psychological growth, which would then affect the child both in their childhood years, and as an adult.
