Picture yourself in a testing laboratory; needles, drugs, and knives pointed in your direction with you having no idea what’s going on around you, this is how animals everyday are treated, we have to stop this now! Millions of animals are killed in laboratories everyday with no chance to object to what the testers are about to do to them. Animals feel as much pain as humans do so why does it make it okay to test on them when they are so alike to humans? Every day people test makeup, shampoos, and medicines on animals, the strange thing is that animals have different skin, hair, and internal organs than humans have. Since the animals have different internal organs than humans only 5-25% of the testing results are agreeable between animals and humans. Humans don’t allow animals to have the right to say that they don’t want to be tested on, but humans have the rights to say they do or do not want to be tested on. There are many non-animal alternatives that humans can use to test products, but many testers refuse to use them. Do you think that these animals enjoy being tested on?! Animals are being tormented everyday in laboratories, animal testing must stop! Hundreds and millions of animals are killed everyday due to animal testing. The number of animal deaths in labs have halved since the 1970’s. An animal dies in a Canadian lab every 16 seconds! The contemporary scale of animal deaths due to animal testing is unacceptable! 17-22 million animals are tested on each year and at least half are put to death. 2.5 million animals are killed due to animal testing at the Great Britain Zoo every year. Animal testing essentially involves harming or killing the animals, every year so many innocent animals are put to death on behalf of our a... ... middle of paper ... ...eel as much pain through testing as we would if we got tested on. Therefore, it is up to us to aid these defenceless animals and to put a halt to animal testing once and for all! Bibliography/ References Douglas, Kate. “Just like us”. New Scientist. Testing animals is used to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medicinal drugs, check the safety of products intended for human use, and other biomedical, commercial, and healthcare roles. The earliest recordings of animal studies date back to Aristotle, who discovered the anatomical differences among animals by analyzing them (Introduction). Advocates of animal testing say that it has enabled the growth of numerous medical advancements, tests to see if new products are save for mankind, acquisition of new scientific knowledge, and because it is accurate (B). Opponents of animal testing say that it is cruel and inhumane to try out on animals, many animals die from the animal testing, it’s unethical, animals don’t have a say in it, the accuracy is in question because they are testing animals and not humans, and the toll of animal testing is high (B). Through the pros and cons of everything, it is bad to test animals because animals are very different from human beings and thus make poor test subjects and are unreliable, the cost and upkeep of it is expensive, and because there are alternatives to animal testi...
Each year, millions of animals, ranging from mice to monkeys, suffer through the cruel and inhumane practice of animal testing. Scientist throughout the world are torturing animals for mankind’s own benefit, which is unreliable in most cases. “According to Humane Society International, animals that are used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing processes and the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies.” Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, these animals do not have a voice to say no. The pain, suffering, and deaths inflicted on these animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Scientist test the animals for many products that we humans can use (makeup, medicine, etc.). Many of the items we purchase on a regular basis have been tested on animals first. Most of the animal testing is unreliable.
Every year about 100 million animals suffer through being poisoned, shocked, and burned for unsuccessful medical research. Some may believe that animal testing is a crucial part to medical research and should be used more frequently. Others believe the pain and suffering inflicted upon the animals is morally wrong and should not be done, no matter what benefits come from it.
When many people think of animal testing, the average person thinks about millions of dogs and cats being injected with dangerous chemicals and substances. However, this is usually not the case. 61% of animals that have been used for research suffered absolutely no pain. 31% have had their pain numbed by anesthesia. Only 6% of animals tested actually experienced pain. The misconception of millions of animals being tortured is extremely wrong. 6% is not very many animals that actually experience any type of pain. Also, the pain is usually helpful to show how the procedure would harm humans. The animals’ pain actually saves human beings pain. Animal Testers are seen as the “bad guys”, when less than one dog/cat is used for research and studies for every 50 destroyed by animal pounds across the country. Millions and millions of animals are euthanized when they cannot be taken care of in a shelter anymore. Another assumption made with animal testing is that it is mostly dogs and cats. However, less than 1.5% of testing is done on these species of animals. Humans share 95% of the genes with a mouse, which makes them a great model for the human body (Animal R...
The way I look at animal testing is a form hateful cruelty. None of these people care about if it hurts or kills the animals. The cruelty has been going on long enough and I think it is time to stop. What people do not know is that animal’s react a different way to drugs as humans do, so scientist cannot apply the results to humans. Many animals go through screaming, unbearable, horrific; you cannot even imagine pain when they go through test for products that you use every day such as: Cosmetics, Household Products, Medical Products, even Iams dog products. Some well-known animals that are use for testing are: cats, dogs, mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, sheep, llamas, cattle, owls, deer, monkeys and other primates. These are not, by any means, all of the animals that they use. These are just the most common ("Animal Rights: Animal Testing"). Animals cannot tell you that something hurts, but they can scream to let the scientist know, but none of them care that it hurts them so bad. Some scientist do not see that countless animals suffer and die, or that it is just plain wrong. These animals suffer, feel pain, hurt and want to live as we do. These companies have burned the skin off some animals, mutilated some bunnies’ ears, poisoned the mice, punching puppies in the face, drip a substance in bunnies eyes, and the suffering and dying of these animals has gone on too long.
Animal testing must be banned for unnecessary tests because a lot of animals are dying for no reason. Ninety-four percent of animal testing is done to determine the safety of cosmetics and household products (Animal Testing 1). That only leaves six percent for medical research (1). Ninety percent of all animals used in research are rats and mine (Animals Used in Experiments 4). Cosmetic testing is banned in Belgium, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom (1). The United States has many companies that continue to legally perform horrible tests on animals (1). The United States Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission do not require animal testing for cosmetics or household products (1). The Animal Welfare Act is the only federal law to require basic standards of care, housing and treatment to the animals that are kept in the labs for testing (4). The LD50 test is one of the worst tests that was developed back in 1927 and is still used today (1). Groups of animals are dosed with different amounts of a test substance in order to determine the does which kills half of the animals (1)! Animals are force-fed this substance (1). Why would we want to put poor animals in this kind of pain for no reason? Animals to the society can be their world. Animal lovers in the society would probably give their all just to mak...
Tens of millions of animals are killed or maimed each year through research on the safety and effectiveness of new drugs, chemicals, and consumer products. Even though animals are not humans does not mean they should be used for testing, which is so inhumane. These animals could have a different importance in society than just experimentation. What is done to animals is usually not safe, ending up with the animal injured or even dead. This experimentation however, is becoming less useful because scientists are creating new ways for testing. Animal testing is cruel and inhuman, causing too many animals to be injured or killed when safer alternatives are becoming available.
Every day, there are thousands of animals being tested on all over the world for the benefit of human beings. In response, due to moral objections, organizations like PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), and the HSUS (The Humane Society of the United States) have formed to protest against the use of animals and to find alternatives to testing on these creatures. Yet, the use of animals in the lab has led to many medical breakthroughs like the artificial heart and the smallpox vaccine, which have improved and/or lengthened the lives of individuals everywhere. Accordingly, a debate has arisen about the need for animal testing and whether it has a place in today’s world.
Many have false perceptions of what animal testing really is and does. Scientists are using our animals to test the safety of products such as drugs, cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, and pharmaceuticals, but are not keeping these creatures safe while doing this (Humane, 1). It is not a simple blood test that is then taken into the lab and studied, it is a much more lengthy and gruesome process. This type of treatment to the animals does not put them in the right condition to be used for scientific data. There are few people who actually know how harmful animal testing is. Animals suffer just like humans do, just because
When it comes to science many experiments have to be tested before they are can actually be used in the real word . What some don’t is how the experiments are conducted and who the experiments are conducted on. These experiments are tested on various animals and not on humans , and I believe that it is unfair to the animals.
There are many opinions and people who dissent on whether animal testing should be continued or if it is a crime to the world. It may be one’s consent another to see that it is extremely wrong. Animal testing is an exemplification of how humanity has come to using innocent defenseless animals to satisfy for its own selfish desires. When animal testing became a popular way to test products in the, 1900s it was genuinely believed that animals could not feel pain or emotions and that they were robots. People back then tested on animals for many different reasons such as research, theories, medicines, products and many more although, research on living animals has been practiced since at least 500 BC. Animal testing is wrong because animal tested
Nearly 100 million animals are killed by medical tests, experiments, and lab work each year. Even though many animals are killed, ⅔ of americans still say that it is acceptable for animals to be tested on. Many say that the animals’ sacrifices are worth it.
Hundreds of millions of animals die every year from animal testing in the United States. Innocent animals are used everyday in laboratories for biology advancements, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. They are used to provide information to make better products that are safe for human use. Although animal experimentation has some benefits, the negatives outweigh the positives. Animal testing is killing off innocent beings for the possible human benefit, and with modern technology, there are alternative ways to test products that leave animals unharmed.
“Each year, more than 100 million animals, including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish and birds are killed throughout the US in labs for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity driven experiments and chemical drugs, food, and cosmetic testing.” Many of the animals last moments are spent being poked and prodded by needles in cold labs by scientists. Animals are meant to be companions, something that can cheer us up when were down not put in cages and injected with harmful viruses and diseases. Animal testing should be stopped because it can produce results that cause harm to humans but not to animals , alternative methods have now been established, and testing on animals is actually
A large issue is animal testing. “More than 25 million vertebrate animals are used in testing in the United States each year. When invertebrate animals are thrown into the mix, the estimated number rises to as high as 100 million.”(dosomething) The laboratory testing of animals is important to biomedical research, product safety testing, and education. Biomedical researchers use animals to extend their understanding of the workings of the body and the processes of disease and health, and to develop new vaccines and treatments for various diseases for humans and other animals. However, the morality, the necessity, or the validity of the studies are questionable. Thousands of animals are helplessly killed every year that animal testing is being conducted. “Ninety-four percent of animal testing is done to determine the safety of cosmetics and household products leaving only 6% for medical research” (about my planet). This can cause harm to the animals and may in turn be fatal. It is not fair nor is it humane to conduct experiments on animals to make sure a product or procedure is safe for us. There are no reasons to regard an animal’s life as if it is insignificant in contrast to a human life. During the testing, animals may be force fed or put in restraints in order for the scientists to get the product into their systems. Ani...
