Most would not admit this but very often, Christians have in many ways - through crusade, capture and trade, used the name and influence of Jesus Christ to encourage and validate political, economic, even and especially military gain. The book Christ and Empire is representative of Jesus Christ, and empires throughout history with great effort with the fact of Jesus’ implication on human life. As every theologian or political figure interpret Jesus’ power on humanity, He is the central figure of the Byzantine Empire pointing out that power and harmony of a group, and eventually the downfall from America. This is a central focus in Christ and Empire, where Rieger constantly announces the effect of history happening all over again. It would be safe to say that Rieger proves that theology was as important to people since way back in the Byzantine Empire, up till now in our current conditions. He also suggests that there there are instances where humanity lingers in an prejudiced and bigoted point of view , which hinders our growth as a society which is quite common. However, when living in a positive outlook it allows the general public to learn from their past and move to bigger and better ideas, promoting growth that will provide an advantage the new opportunities for tomorrow’s generation. Though it can be seen as two completey different ideas, if we further analyze , you can see the many similarities and connections between politics and theology. Constantine, Diocletian, and Nicolas Chauvin, can be compared to any political or religious leader, and form the basis that history repeats itself. Roman Catholicism was the formation of uniting gentiles and Jews, which designed to ease relations when making St. Peter the Church’s first pope. The Pope still remains predominantly the biggest religious official, due to its rich history, and command on the world stage. Rieger correlates how Constantine was a general in Diocletian’s army, where Greek was the intelligent language spoken by the self-proclaimed “best theologians”. Today, the United States has a powerful president, where the American-English language is used as a common dialect among many nations to communicate with the global superpower.
