In Arizona you must be at least twenty one years old to carry a concealed weapon legally. There will be difficulty however, in amending the law because of recent violent shootings such as in Boston, Sandy Hook, Tucson, and Aurora. Law states that “You must be at least 21 years or older” (arizonaconcealedcarry). Governor Jan Brewer vetoed two bills going through legislation this year that covered the topic of concealed carry. The first one, House Bill 2339, states that persons with permits can carry concealed weapons into government buildings. House Bill 2517 would “punish towns and cities for enacting laws more strict than state law” (Rau par 2). Those who will be most likely to appose new legislation include parties involved in the Tuscon, Arizona shooting in 2011 and conservatives (but not exclusive to just these groups). Government involvement is necessary because we need a push to change legislation that has not been changed since 2010 (Kiley par 2). Across the US there are some alternate bills in the 2014 legislation. In 2015 we could consider adopting one of them for Arizona if they fit our cause. In Georgia there is legislation to pass a law allowing open carry of guns in schools, bars, and churches as long as the owner has not banned carry of them as well as concealed carry for those eighteen and up in the military so long as they meet other specifications. Churches like Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where Reverend Martin Luther King Jr was shot and killed will be prohibiting all guns on their premises. This in turn may make the bill harder to pass. However, many pro gun groups are standing by the bill and “Many were openly carrying handguns, and some wore National Rifle Association hats and button... ... middle of paper ... ...ry/news/politics/2014/04/23/arizona-governor-brewer-vetoes-gun-bills/8053753/>. “Carrying a concealed handgun in public is permitted in all 50 states as of 2013. Some states have “unrestricted carry” and do not require permits” (ProCon.org 1). Law abiding citizens can apply for a “concealed carry permit” if they have no record of mental illness and no criminal record. The permit allows them to carry handguns not only at home, but almost everywhere they go. More women are buying handguns than ever before and going through the training to get a license to carry(The Economist 1). Before, you had to prove you had a need to get such a permit. In 1989 the National Rifle Association (NRA) started a nationwide campaign to get laws passed that made it legal for law abiding citizens to carry a concealed handgun. Their argument was that criminals who knew that their victims were armed would be less likely to attack (New York Times 1).
In this article Emmett Tyrell informs us about gun violence in schools and what the NRA has proposed to stop the gun violence, and mass shootings across America. While the gun control debate rages, many schools have become war zones, and all school zones are vulnerable. The National Rifle Association's has come up with a 225-page report contains dozens of recommendations to improve safety in our nation’s schools. The NRA’s National School Shield program will train and enable school personnel to carry firearms to protect our nation’s children.
Very few people want to carry openly displayed guns because the police will hassle them, stores will refuse to serve them, and some people will not talk to them.
The implementation of gun control in the United States is a large problem as it will take away the 2nd Amendment rights of citizens, while preventing law abiding citizens from protecting themselves from criminals.( Noyes, 3) The right to bear arms is promised to citizens of the United States. Crime is very high in states that have loose gun control laws. The state of Texas is known to have the most lenient gun control laws of any state in America.( Noyes, 6) However, the solution of taking guns away from people who are registered and licensed to carry them with no criminal record is not the answer to the problem. Americans have never responded well historically to prohibitions. (Baldauf, 7). Public concern about gun control has grown in Texas in the last two years due to the constant violence caused by Mexican drug cartels on the Mexico and Texas border. People in Texas have different beliefs when it comes to gun control, there are those who believe gun control laws are effective in reducing crime, those who believe that gun control laws are ineffective against crime, and those who believe that private owner ship of guns reduces crime.
In the United States of America, there is much debate about the effectiveness and practicality of concealed firearms. Many citizens today are trying to support their claim with old, outdated evidence and targeted research to attempt to prove a point, but can not escape the truth. Although Concealed firearms may sound appealing to reduce crime rates and stop violence, new evidence suggests otherwise. Recently there has been trends of certain lunatics who own guns that decide to shoot innocent people, justifying the need for more strict gun control laws. The purpose of this paper is to educate and inform about the immensely important topic of concealed firearms, with focus on what effect it has on society and crime rates. We will go over modern
The following are the states that ranked as having the strongest gun control laws. It is evident that these states with the str...
"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed." Thomas Jefferson said this quote almost 200 years ago and to this day it still applies. The right to bear arms was such a priority to the founding fathers of this country that it received the second spot on the list of the basic rights of all Americans. This right is in the process of being restricted in order to supposedly reduce crime and homicide. These gun control laws should not be permitted because they restrict law-abiding citizens’ access to firearms, leave people defenseless when a crime does arise, and have been proven futile in other countries.
The California Legislature is currently debating a bill that would require handgun owners to be licensed by the state. And amid the debate over Assembly Bill 273, you can be sure there will be claims that burdening law-abiding gun owners with more regulations is necessary to "protect our children" from gun violence.
The 2nd amendment “The Right to Bear Arms” has not been brought up to date in over 200 hundred years and it is time that we make the necessary adjustments. Handguns and assault weapons are to blame for many mass killings in America. Each year, more than 30,000 people die in the United States in firearm-related incidents. Handguns and semi automatic weapons have been used in these massacres. The choice of rules such as exercising the right to further background checks and limit the availability of automatic weapons should be the first and foremost concern of both federal and state legislators.
With regulations and laws such as these, how can we protect those that matter most, we cannot. The age requirement for all states should be 21 years of age. The laws continue to protect the gun owners and increasingly continue to put the youth and the unstable at risk of getting their hands on unsafe firearms.
Gun control has been a controversial issue for many years. A vast majority of citizens believe that if gun control is strictly enforced it would quickly reduce the threat of crime. Many innocent people feel they have the right to bear arms for protection, or even just the pleasure of hunting. Americans have a constitutional right to own hand guns and stricter laws and licensing will not affectively save lives.

Did you know the second amendment states that you have a right to own and use arms for protection? Kentucky passed a law in 1813 that prohibits the carrying of concealed weapons. In May 1987, Florida passed a “shall-issue” law that became a model for other states. There were 11 states that have the “may-issue” law which allowed permits. On July 8, 2011, Wisconsin became the 49th state to allow concealed carry. (ProCon.org) Adults who go through training and obtain a permit should be able to carry a concealed handgun.
