As we grow up, many things will happen in our life, and most of them are unexpected. We should face all the obstacles in front of us and pass them. For me, I have many challenges in my life, and I think the most difficult challenge I am facing is studying abroad. I would like to show how I now live abroad and more about my study in UNL. After I finished my secondary school, my parents decided to let me study in an international high school. One reason is that I did not do well on the final exam in secondary school and also they thought going abroad was better for me. So I attended the international high school in my local city. In there, I met many friends and several of them came to UNL with me. My classmates and I all get along well with
The obstacles which we must face are not there to hinder our daily life. They are there to provide countless opportunities to obtain greater success. In order to be successful we must look at every obstacle as a new opportunity.
I experienced many different obstacles in my life and I was fortunate enough to overcome those obstacles. When I first came to America, everyone in my family was in a culture shocked. We lived our entire lives with people who look, dress, and speak the same language as us. It was hard for us to settle down because we did not speak English, and we also didn’t understand the culture. When I started school, everything was good because the teachers were very welcoming and were helping me to adjust to the new school, but after a few weeks, school became a nightmare for
In staging reality, setting is critical for both Chad and Undine’s performances. In expatriate fiction, Europe is associated with more freedom than Puritanical America and is used as a medium for performers to present and explore both themselves and cultural and social differences between their home in America and abroad. In Going Abroad, William Stowe suggests that Europe is a space in which higher class and non-essential laborers can “prepare for or advance their careers” (Stowe 7). As a continent with a vast collection of cultural goods, Europe conflicts with the barren American landscape. Acquiring a “Europeanized” persona helps Undine and Chad to gain experience that they employ at home, and cultural accumulation provides an advantage
As J. Daniel Hess writes in his book, Studying Abroad/Learning Abroad, reflection on our actions is one of the most difficult things that a foreigner does. He writes, “How does one effectively grasp the meaning of a critical event and the essence of a new culture, understanding it in sufficient depth not only to appreciate its dynamic complexities but also to function comfortably as a participant.” These questions were always in my mind especially as I was by myself. In hindsight I may have tread too carefully in some areas. Hess describes the difference between the theory-application model, and the action-reflection-response model. Hess encouraged all intercultural travelers to learn by reflecting on past event rather than simply reading
Learning about new cultures is my favorite thing to do. I interact well with others and enjoy networking with new people. I have found that my ability to meet new people is a trait that makes every visit I have taken to different countries an enjoyable visit. I wish to participate in this program because it has always been a goal of mine to study abroad. By participating in this program I hope to learn about another culture, make international contacts, and gain valuable international business skills.
In conclusion, we learn in life we have to face these challenges in each accomplishment to give us a sense of unity through our family members. In life, we have to go through these challenges everyday and some days it will be easy and some days it will not but as long as we have our friends, family and friends to point us to the right direction we can achieve basically anything we want too. Life there will be things that will hurt us or we can't be able to due, but we will soon overcome all these challenges in life and it will open a new doors for us.
To this day, I am so thankful I had to go through these life experiences, because it is those struggles, and those hardships, that define me as the person I am today. I believe my confidence, international, and life experience will add a lot of value to the academic community of Hult....
Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a college’s students career. For many colleges, having their students can mean an increase in tuition, higher application rates, and overall better reviews by their students. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, by Scott Olsen, “The Wall Street Journal reported last month that several small colleges are requiring students to pay full tuition even if the programs cost less, setting caps on the amount of financial aid sent abroad, and limiting how many students can participate”(5). Also, Olsen tells us “In the 2003-2004 school year, 7,208 students from Indiana universities went on study-abroad programs, according to the most recent statistics available from the Institute
I moved from Lonedell R-14 School District. I have went there for my whole life since kindergarten. I knew that when the end of 8th grade came around that I would be transitioning to a new school all by myself when all of my friends we’re going to be going to highschool with all of my friends that I grew up with. By the end of 8th grade I was being introduced to Sullivan High School. I had already tried out for the cheer team and made it, I went to summer school and made my first friend of high school, Kellsey J Strehl who would end up being one of my best friends, and I also went to the freshman orientation and got to see the kids that I would be going to school with. That summer, I didn’t do much but hang out at the sullivan pool with my
One of the biggest decision I made in my life was to further my study far from my home country, far from my family, and far from my friends. It was August 15, 2014 I arrived here; a country where football is being play differently from the rest of the world. It took me 23 hours on flight to arrive at East Lansing from Malaysia and a total journey of 40 hours. The first time I arrived here, I was afraid of the new and strange environment that I see. I was afraid of what are the challenges that I might face in the future. But there is some part in me that eagerly want to explore the beauty of this country and its culture.
1. I encountered the most significant challenge when I moved to Canada in January, 2012. Before I came to Canada, my English grade was very good in China, thus, I thought living and studying in Canada would not be too difficult. However, I did not do well in the ESL evaluation at all, and I was placed in ESL 1 at my high school. Most of my classmates there spoke very little English, and they did not spend much time and effort on studying English. It was very difficult for me to study if I wanted to be their friends and at that time, they were the only friends I had in Canada. However, I expected much more effort from myself. I studied very hard and became the 2nd fastest ESL students ever to complete ESL 1 to 4 in my high school. Today, when I recall what I have accomplished, I think I learnt to trust myself and at the same, success in anything only comes from hard work.
What are the advantages to studying an undergraduate degree and how do you think the successful completion of your degree will help you in your life?
The first challenge, and in my opinion the most crucial challenge that I had to face was learning the English language, and also communication. This challenge was important for me to overcome due to the fact that I am here on the
Have you ever thought about studying abroad? No, not just for a few months for your work-experience, but a whole year (or longer) as a transfer-student. Of course, you don’t make such a decision from one minute to the next. It needs to be thought over well. Going to college is a big change in your life because it usually means living on your own for the first time, but as a foreign student it is even a bigger change because you are on your own in another country. This is often the greatest concern for students to go abroad: to leave everything behind. They have trouble leaving their family and the familiar environment. They think this price is just too high. But if they only knew how rich they will be when they come back.
It is fantastic to establish independence in a foreign country. However, most of my relatives believed that living in a foreign country would definitely be difficult. Fortunately, I did not agree with them. I thought I had to have some guts and confront my life matters. Subsequently, I became a twenty-two-year-old international student who has been living in the United States with full independence for five years. This will always be my unforgettable experience since I am having the opportunity to gain the best education from a sophisticated country, which is the USA. Indeed, we all have different aims in our lives that need to be achieved. I know this is true because being a married international student means that I need to accomplish my
