1. Web accessibility and usability. According to an organization called World Wide Web Consortium (2010), indicates that the accessibility and usability of web is related to each other when developing a websites. Thus, accessibility and usability of a website is very important. 1.1 Web accessibility According to Heng (2010) explain that accessibility of a web is to provide and ensure the same user experience for people who are disability such as color blindness. How to make website accessibility? Heng (2010) continue to suggest few methods that used to improve the accessibility of a website, the first one is, do not make the text too small on the website, because elderly people may have poor eyesight and it is hard for them to see small text. Heng followed with the second method which is use high contrasting color for the website background and text, do not use the combination color of background and text which hard to look at it, not even poor eyesight people will be hard to see but it is a problem for normal people as well. Therefore, with these expert advices, the web system in assignment part b has improve in accessibility by using viewable method such as avoid small font text in website and color used in background and text (black and white). There are still a lot of methods to improve the accessibility of websites. According to an organization WebAIM (2013), indicates few ways to improve the accessibility of a website such as plan a good heading structure to ensure the content are in logical heading structure, provide a good contrast, design a link for user which can help them go back to the top of the page and ensure the link text is meaningful. In the assignment part b, it also improved the accessibility inspired by WebA... ... middle of paper ... ... provide a input box on the homepage to allow user to search the things they want, it will not only search the homepage but the entire website, it would help user to save time as well. In the assignment part b, the website is included a search box for user to search for the press release that they looking to and the website will not be refresh by itself because it may disturbing to user if they focus on something and suddenly the refresh brings a stop to them, they will felt frustrated (Nielsen, 2001). Other than that, Melinda (2010) provide a golden rules that lead a webpage to be more usability which is to be logical, plan the website to be structure and keep testing and improve to avoid errors or mistakes in the website. Therefore, with all of these method and rules from experts, it will be very helpful in the assignment part b in order to make it more usability.

The Deaf community have come a long way with advance technology and embrace it into their culture. Indeed, they have added caption into the television for Deaf people to be able to know what they are saying in the Television. Television has the ability to have open and closed captions. They are able to utilize TTY phone system and text messages. In addition, SMS messages are also used by hearing people. Text messages have been a great way to communicate easier and faster in less than a minute. Now in days, everyone has access to smartphone and send a text message from anywhere. Advanced technology has been a benefit for Deaf people and hearing people. Another way that technology has been a benefit for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people is daily usage tools like the vibrating alarm clock and video phones. Technology has been upgrading as the world has change and as it becomes more useful. For instance, the cell phones were only used for calling. On the other hand, cell phones have upgraded to the point you can facetime, text, navigate, and access to internet. We can relate technology to evolution. We are using technology to meet our needs in life. The deaf community depend on technology to meet their needs. Overall, they need alarm clock, assisted listening device, cell phones, and flashing fire
Individuals who are deaf or are hearing impaired are faced with many problems in today’s world. There are so many tasks and activities that are done today that deaf or hearing impaired people may have difficulty doing because of there handicap. There handicap used to stop them or inhibit them from doing something that they are interested in or there friends and neighbors would do. However in today there are new and different technologies, that help the deaf and hearing impaired in the activities in which they want to participate in which is hard for them to take part in because of there handicap. Technology is used to help with everyday tasks in the lives of deaf and hearing impaired individuals. With out this new technology which is being invented everyday, deaf and hearing impaired people may be considered to have a handicap which prevents them from certain activities, but this is not the case anymore, now these people just have different obstacles which through the use of technology they are learning to over come. They can do anything that regular normal range of hearing individuals can do, due to the new technology being invented everyday.
“If you look at the human condition today, not everyone is well fed, has access to good medical care, or the physical basics that provide for a healthy and a happy life.” This quote by Ralph Merkle shows that something so easily taken for granted is healthcare. Most of us wouldn’t even think about it as a privilege, something that has just always been there and always will. In America, we would never even imagine not being able to receive medical care in our times of need, in other countries that is not at all the case. Many will die from easily preventable and treatable diseases because they do not have medical care. The charity Doctors of the World is committed to helping those who do not have easy access to medical care
Usability is a critical portion of web design that one must be ever mindful of when constructing websites. Whether creating a personal web space or building multiple pages for a large corporation, it is the burden of the designer to guarantee people can access that content. According to the United Nations, disabled people compose roughly 10 percent of the world’s population (United Nations, 2010). Many regulations and standards have been set forth to provide disabled people with the same opportunities to access content available on the World Wide Web, as it is most of the World’s population.

The space and area in which a child is learning must be accommodating to all of their needs. A responsive environment is a space of any size that is set up and presented in a manner that promotes social-emotional development, physical development, spiritual development, intellectual/cognitive and language/literacy skills. It is important that the class or room promotes a healthy learning environment which allows the children to be independent while still pushing their skills and abilities. Environments are able to shape and direct a child’s learning experience, “We now know that the environment is a valuable teacher if it is amiable, comfortable, pleasing, organized, clean, inviting and engaging…This is true of floor space, ceiling, and wall space” (Krentz, Emerita, & University of Regina, 2013, p.44).
Students with disabilities face many challenges in everyday life. Some of these difficult tasks cannot be avoided; however, there are many that can. It can be traumatizing for an individual with disabilities to go to school everyday with the terrifying idea of being made inferior because of their hindered ability to do activities like the average, normal student. Making schools easily accessible can help students and make it easier for them to go to school. It is necessary to make sure that the students can do all the activities that all the other students can do and that they feel apart of the school and not just an outsider looking in. It is imperative that the schools can accommodate and adapt to the the students disabilities in order
As indicated, usability is the ability of a user to find the information he/she seeks, process the information, and perform whatever functions as needed (Eccher, 2015, p. 7). The use of a navigation menu allows the user to peruse the website. There exist four primary pathways by which users are able to navigate a website: use of hyperlinks, streamline the navigation bar, keep sidebars separate, and include footers. Hyperlinks will be examined initially.

Assistive technology plays an important role in the learning process for individuals with disabilities. Assistive technology is defined as "any item, piece of equipment or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities." (Maushak, Kelley & Blodgett, 2001, p. 419) Assistive technology is very beneficial to individuals that have disabilities. For example, students with mental retardation benefit from extremely organized learning situations because of their limited cognitive abilities. Students who are hearing impaired, blind, or visually impaired may need differentiated pedagogical materials. More emphasis should be placed on visual materials for students with hearing impairments than for other students. Modifying instruction for all students, especially exceptional students, requires strong dependence on media, materials and technology and the right choice of these components to fit particular ends. Moreover, research has indicated that technology not only can be adapted for use with students with disabilities, but when used can enhance students' educational achievement and self-image. (Duhaney & Duhaney, 2000, p. 393) With this knowledge, there have been many new products that have been developed to help individualize programs to fit the criteria for specific disabilities. Through out this paper we will be disusing three different pieces of assistive technologies. We will be looking at Dynawrite, AlphaSmart, and Texthelp and the benefits of each program.
In this assignment I am going to explain the definition of responsive web design, process of graceful/gradual degradation and progressive enhancement when applied to responsive web design. I am also going to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of using a process of graceful/gradual degradation compared with the process of progressive enhancement when designing a web site.
Bowser and Reed [1995] as cited by Bryant et al [1998] argue that as a child progresses through the Education System, their requirements change and this may necessitate a need for different devices. This is not limited to those children with a physical disability but is relevant to all children with SEN as they progress and the Education System places additional burdens upon them. For children with a visual impairment ICT can provide support in various ways; tools to support communication, to improve access to information and as a means of producing learning materials in alternative. There is a wide range of devices and software, which can
Description: If you own a business, you must have a website for it. Read the blog to know the importance of having a website for your business.
Next, you have to develop the layout of the web page. You should draw some simple sketches to display the basic “look and feel” of the web page. The use of a specific theme or template should be used to maintain the same basic look throughout the web site. Keep the reader of the web site in mind when designing the web site. Most readers will not usually wait on large graphic files to load, especially on the home page.
