Abortions Should Be Illegal

Many young teens are getting abortions these days. About twenty-four abortions are carried out for every one hundred live births (Archbold). Abortions should be illegal in the United States because every baby should have a chance to live out his or her life. It should also be illegal because having an abortion is killing your baby, and that’s the same thing as killing another human being. Killing a person is illegal in the United States. So, why shouldn’t abortion be illegal too?

Any baby that is reproduced should receive a chance to live. Everyone should have a life and have the opportunity to experience living. The woman having the newborn doesn’t have an obligation to keep the baby. She could give birth and decide to put the baby up for adoption. In that way, she won’t have the responsibility of taking care of a baby and all the expenses that come with it. Plus, the baby gets to live. Killing your baby is the worst decision to make.

In her article, Ten Arguments for Abortion and Against Abortion, Linda Owen says, “Since life begins at conception, abortion is akin to murder as it is the act of taking human life. Abortion is in direct defiance of the commonly accepted idea of the sanctity of human life.” Killing someone in the United States is illegal. If killing someone is illegal, then having an abortion should be illegal too. Human beings don’t have the right to decide if someone lives or dies. Abortion is the same thing, killing a person.

Some people believe that it’s okay to have an abortion because of certain situations some women may be in. For example, they were raped. It is understand that a person wouldn’t want to have a baby with someone that forced them to have sex with them, but again, they should just give birth to the baby, and if they decide that they don’t want to keep it, put it up for adoption. There are plenty of nice young couples that would love a baby to take care of.

Having an abortion is a terrible plan. According to Facts on Induced Abortion in the United States, about two percent of women aged 15-44 each year have an abortion and 47% of them have had at least one previous abortion.
