Abortion is Murder

Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy. It has been going on for many centuries. No one knows when the first abortion was because many of them were never documented. Approximately half of the women in the United States have had at least one pregnancy that they aborted (“Abortion In”). In the 1820s there were laws forbidding abortion after fourth month of pregnancy. Many feminist, such as Susan B. Anthony are against abortion. Susan B. Anthony was an American civil rights leader in the 19th century (“Susan B. Anthony”).

Many people were against the idea of abortion until the 19th century. A lot of states felt that, even though in the womb, the child still has rights in this world. Around the 1960’s is when people started supporting abortions. They wanted it to be legalized even though they very well knew the dangers of having abortions. Some religions as well were for abortion, such as the Jewish Talmud. They say that it is not considered murder because the fetus is not a person and does not have any rights at all. Others state that it is only murder if it is done after the fetus is developed, usually after the first trimester (History of Abortion).

From 1970 to 1980, abortion rates have increased every year. They have decreased every year from 1990 to 1995. (CDC Yearly Data) There are many reasons why women have abortions, even though there should never be one, reasons such as age, martial status, and economical status. Young girls who seek abortions are because they are afraid of what their parents and peers might say. Many women don’t want kids until after they are married. I am against abortions. I feel that abortion should never be an option or a method of birth control. Getting pregnant was based on your actions and any consequence after that is your complete responsibility, everyone deserves the chance to live. There are better ways to go about a situation like this, such as abortion. Life should be cherished and not taken as a joke. Many people do not see the dangers that abortion can cause to your body in the future. The best message to give to people is to make the right decisions. You do not want to be left with the thought of something really tragic, such as abortion. That is why I state my claim; I am completely against abortions.
