Abortion: A Pro-Life View

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” As stated in the Declaration of Independence, ALL men are created equal and given equal rights. Why then, would such rights be denied to those with the inability to even protect themselves? Each year in the United States alone, roughly 1.21 million abortions are performed. According to the Guttmacher Institute, that adds up to almost 55 million abortions since 1973 when abortion was legalized. There always seems to be an excuse behind the carnage of these innocent lives, but without proper, solid reasoning, abortion is the careless disposal of a life that no one has the right to take.
The war between Pro-Life advocates and Pro-Choice advocates is surrounded by “what if’s”; what if the woman was raped, what if the mother would die in childbirth, what if it is an incest situation? Those three “what ifs” are the most common arguments that are thought of right on the spot. As a matter of fact, 73% of the students I surveyed put either all three or at least one of them in reply to why they thought abortion should be legal. Research done by the Operation Rescue group shows that out of the 1.21 million abortions performed, less than 1% of them are due to rape or incest. This small percentage of women is the only thing backing up the “what-ifs” that so many Pro-Choice advocates use as their front line of defense. Of course there is a range of other reasons as to why mothers across America choose to end their child’s life. ...uch awful ways to exterminate a pregnancy, but they are rare. Abortion does not have to be the answer. Life is a blessing and should be seen that way by not only mothers, but by everyone.
