America is on the cutting edge of almost everything, except for basic units of measurement. Every nation on earth has adopted the International System of Units, or metric system, as their official system of weights and measures, with the exception of Myanmar, Liberia, and the United States of America (“CIA World Fact Book,” n.d.). Throughout history, the metric system has proven itself as a reliable, and simple to use, decimal based system of measurement. In comparison, the United States customary system is overly complicated and requires extensive conversions to apply. Despite US efforts to go metric, many Americans and American corporations oppose metrication because they see the change as unnecessary or costly to implement. To support their claims, supporters of the metric system cite the system’s world-wide acceptance, easy conversions, and note the disasters that have occurred due to dual usage or confusion of metric and non-metric units. Successful implementation by the US government will no doubt be a challenge in the current economy. The change-over will require time, resources, and enforcement. Ultimately the investment will pay off by significantly increasing international compatibility and interoperability. Adaptation to the metric system will allow the United States to join the rest of the world in a standardized system that accommodates speed and efficiency.
The metric system is designed with basic and logical units of measurement which mitigate the need for lengthy conversions. The International System of Units, or metric system, is commonly abbreviated as SI for short. The SI is a simplified and convenient system built on seven base units: meter, kilogram, second, ampere, kelvin, mole, and candela for measuring l...

Obesity is a serious epidemic that majority of Americans face. The dangerous of obesity should not be taken lightly and addressed admittedly. However, the big question is how or why do some individuals stay skinny or become fat. The movie Weight of The Nations, Part 2: choice helps us explore this unanswered question to give us a better understanding of how this problem has gotten so out of control. This movie targets the obese society in America. This documentary uses scientist to research and address techniques to help people prevent weight gain and loss unhealthy weight. Most Americans want quick fixes to this problem, but have to realize big changes take time, but offer big results. Over all, the idea is to get people motivated by positive results to live a healthier live style.
Numbers that are measured by an alone unit as a common measure are called relatively prime.

The practice of using misleading labelling that still complies with law has been done for some time. Still, legislation has been moving forward, starting in December 2002 when nutrition labelling was enforced in the Food and Drugs Regulations, which has since been amended in 2005 (HealthCanada). Whilst the government is taking a proactive stance towards labelling (partly due to consumer lobby groups), companies in the food industry are still able to produce misleading and/or uninformative labelling through simple manipulation of the English language and interpretation of law. Below, current legislation will be discussed, followed by company practices and the organic food market.

Adam smith wrote in his masterpiece, the wealth of nations, “It is the necessary, though very slow and gradual consequence of a certain propensity in human nature which has in view no such extensive utility; the propensity to truck, barter, and exchange one thing for another”. This propensity in human nature led to the development of currency – a medium of exchange accepted by a community of people. For centuries gold and silver were used around the world as currency; in 1834 the United States, formerly on a bimetallic standard, converted to a gold de facto standard. This policy made it so the dollar was backed by gold at a ratio of $20.67 per ounce. The Gold standard was used until August 15, 1971 when President Richard Nixon announced that the United States would no longer redeem currency for gold. (Bordo, n.d.) Instead a fiat monetary system – currency not backed by gold – would be used. Both systems have their advantages and
Assignment #2 Question 1: Economy Throughout the video series “The Weight of the Nation” obesity is addressed several times, including how it as a disease has affected our economy for the worse. Although obesity has not drastically affected the states with higher income, those who live in states with lower income tend to be more negatively affected. In the first part of the video series, there was a study done by researchers in Tennessee proving that people with lower incomes are more negatively affected and prone to the disease of obesity. “If we don’t take on strategies that affect how the low income community is dealing with the obesity epidemic, we’re going to see this phenomenon across our society in a relatively short period of time.”
The United States should convert to the metric system because it makes converting between each unit simpler. First of all, the only thing that you have to do to
Some people may say that the metric system is one of the greatest tools that were ever invented. “The spread of the metric system is a triumph not of science but international capitalism,” (Marclano, 2015). If the US were to convert to the metric system we would just be making world more similar than it already is, and we need to cherish and save our differences. The measurement that the US is using now is more important and essential to the people than the metric system. “It allows us to recognize that distance, weight, and volume can be measured and conceived of in more than one way,” (Marclano, 2015). The United States has been using the metric system already and is increasing its use of the metric system. The metric system that we use now is based on the metric units in some areas, and is becoming more and more like the SI every day. Some people say that it is good to transfer because it is important to foreign trade and the influence of technology. “…The increasing competitiveness of other nations and the demands of global marketplaces…,” (Gentry, 2002). If the United States does not make the change than it handicap the Nation’s industry and economy. A lot of people in the United States are highly skilled in math and science, so by transitioning to the metric system it will makes these subjects more effective. These advantages and disadvantages of using the metric system play a big role when it comes to thinking about initially making the

Metrics are very important in Operations Management within an organization because it provides functions such as control, reporting, communication, opportunities for improvement and expectations. It is a certifiable measure stated in either quantitative or qualitative terms, types of measurements. In addition, metrics have different types of categories in the organizations. One of which is “Organizational Focus”, which has four different types of levels within the organization or firm. 1.
On every food product there is a table of nutritional information that states the exact health contents of the food. There is also a list of ingredients that provides consumers with details regarding the food. In today’s times, consumers are flooded with choices of seemingly similar products. I do not know the difference in nutrition amongst these products. Food labelling is often misleading and deceptive, and I feel as if I have been left in the dark, but also that there is a hidden shadow side that may exist as consumers’ ignoracne may lead to naive incorrect choices.

An Analysis of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The current state of the economy in the United States has been slow in recent months. While the economy is not currently in recession, we may eventually fall victim to the first recession we’ve had in nearly ten years. The economy in general is showing growth, just not much.
Perhaps one of the most used mathematic skill in the medical field is converting units. According to a study based on IMS’s Vector One Database, in the year 2011 alone there were 3,764,698,318 prescriptions filled in the United States (SDI Health). In order to prescribe and fill these prescriptions, pharmacists and doctors had to precisely calculate medication measurements. Medication is prescribed using the metric system, often in milligrams per kilogram (Glydon). To figure how much medicine to prescribe to a patient, a doctor must first convert their patient’s weight in pounds to kilograms. After this, they must carefully calculate the amount of required milligrams per kilogram. Doctors must be able to determine ...
