Career Management is sensible planning of one’s engagements and activities in the jobs a person undertakes in the course of his or her life for better achievement, growth and financial permanence and stability. Managing careers is a life-time, self-monitored way of planning one’s career goal that involves selecting one’s career aim, to set target and personal goals strategizing ways in achieving one’s career goal. It is also the process through which employee become aware of their values, interest, strengths and weaknesses, to identify one’s career goals, to obtain information about job opportunities from the company and to establish action plans to achieve one’s career.
Successful career management is achieved through regular practice of building relationships, engaging in career development, updating our career development plan and pursue further training courses and upgrading our skills constantly.
The below career chart ( Figure 1.1 ) will give us an idea of the kinds of jobs we can expect to find under each kind of intelligent. We can use this Career Chart as a general guide to ascertain what kind of job is suitable for us.
Career Management is our responsibilities and it allows us to set goals to stay current and to prepare for future opportunities. Therefore, Career Management also leads to job satisfaction. ( Figure 1.2 )

It is evident that people have different and unique desires when it comes to career interests. Therefore, this desire is the driving motive for people in their career growth and development. Perhaps, the first step towards selecting a satisfying career is to find out the things that are exciting and a source of joy. I have always found business management an interesting career option because my ultimate objective is to become among the leading businesspersons. Business management involves dealing with various kinds of people and a lot of strategic decision-making, which are the two major important attributes of a business person (O'Grady, 2009). Business management career is an interesting career, because it is one of the ways that an individual can become their own boss through establishing a business and seeing it through to success. In this particular research, my focus was based on Apple Inc (Hitt, Hoskisson & Ireland, 2013). It is one of the leading companies in the mobile phones and computer industry. Its success is accredited to the manner in which management has been handled within the company.
Analyzing career theory is an important task, not only as an individual but also on a large scale. If everyone has the career they are best at and enjoy above all others, the world would be a much happier place. Imagine a world where each individual viewed work as not something they have to do, but as something they want to do. Productivity would increase at all levels. Charitable foundations and businesses would be abundant. Whereas this ideal may not be fathomable at this point, if each person used this information, it would be only a matter of time before we are moving in that harmonious direction.
Career management plays important role in career development. Career management is done with involved taking some necessary steps to reach the career plan and commonly more focusing on the ability of the organization able to do for their employee to increase their career development (Werner & DeSimone, 2009). Career plan is usually able to be performed, at least in some apart, through the training program which implemented by the organization. Career management process contained four steps which are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting and action planning (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).
The Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale (CDSE) was developed by Karen Taylor and Nancy Betz to apply Albert Bandura’s theory of self-efficacy expectations to the domain of career decision making. Career decision self-efficacy was originally defined by Taylor and Betz as the individual’s belief that he or she can successfully complete tasks necessary in making career decisions. To define these tasks, the theory of career maturity of John O. Crites was used. Crites’s theory defined career maturity as the individual’s degree of possession of five career choice competencies and five career choice attitudes. The five career choice competencies and sample items are: 1. accurate self-appraisal, 2. occupational information, 3. goal selection, 4. planning, and 5. problem
When dealing with career prospects I can aspire to become "Talent Acquisition Manager”. In today’s economy Talent Acquisition is a high pressure, critical and strategic result area of any organization. If not done properly it can jeopardize business plans and its application. I could work for major firms after the training, experience and, skills I have received by the United States military.
These examples of career changes reflect a common trend—increased job mobility. The linear career path that once kept people working in the same job, often for the same company, is not the standard career route for today's workers. Today, many workers are pursuing varied career paths that reflect sequential career changes. This set of ongoing changes in career plans, direction, and employers portrays the lifetime progression of work as a composite of experiences. This Digest explores how changing technologies and global competitiveness have led to redefinition of interests, abilities, and work options that influence career development.
By doing this, the employer would gain not only a newly invigorated worker, but their loyalty as well. Companies large and small would benefit from analyzing themselves periodically to see how the employee likes their job.

The changing workplace - a by-now familiar litany of economic, demographic, organizational, and social changes - has made ambiguity the only certainty in work life. Many adults had little or no career education, guidance, or counseling when they were "in school " and often seek such help now, making job or career changes spurred by their personal stage of development or by the "postmodern" workplace. Although career development is a continuous lifelong process, "media and some scholars continue to dramatize crisis in midlife" (Lea and Leibowitz 1992, p. 8). Crises and transitions can occur at any period, however. Hoyt and Lester (1995) found that the career needs of adults aged 18-25 are particularly not being met. Career development is a continuous process of handling proactively work and changes in life in order to move forward and reach the goals set for a better future. It involves learning new skills, moving up in the position within the organization or altogether moving to new organization or even starting up a new business. A career development plan is created to set goals and how to reach these goals using your talents and skills in the working world. A five year plan is ideal to start with, as five years are enough to reach bigger goals while working for and achieving smaller goals.
Most successful companies chalk out a career path/ career ladder for the employees in order to provide them with a realistic picture of their position in the coming years in order to retain them. Having a clear idea about future positions and job responsibilities, the employee and the company can work to identify arrears where relevant training is required for the employee to build his competencies to fulfil future job requirements.
