“When you’re a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch yours.” Unknown Nursing, for me, is more than a profession, it is a journey where I learn continuously about life changing events and miracles. Touching the lives of others or being touched by other’s story is an experience one can’t describe, only endure. Nursing is a profession of integrity and compassion, and it is the most trusted professions due to our commitment towards our patient. The quality of a good nurse is they should be caring, sensitive, kind and respectful towards their patient, and I believe I possess all these qualities that have contributed to me in my successful career of nursing. Working at Cleveland Clinic, I got a great opportunity to work with a group of doctors and coworkers who have the same mission in life and job as mine; “Put the patient first”. Making a positive impact on patient’s life, big or small, noticed or unnoticed, gives me a great sense of accomplishment and makes me proud to be a nurse. My journey for RN to BSN is not long, but I am learning so much every day that I do not want it to end. It has changed my approach of nursing in many ways. When thinking of a career I would enjoy, I kept my interests and hobbies in mind. Through life I have developed an interest for helping people, and a career as a Nurse Practitioner will allow me to do so. From going to mission trips and assisting children to lending a hand at the local nursing homes, I knew a career in the medical field was where I needed to be. To begin my research about the career of a Nurse Practitioner, I looked for information on the Choices 360 website. Then I continued my research to the Nurse.org website. Finally, to conclude my inspection of the career, I interviewed Daniel Eddings who is currently attending school to become a Nurse Practitioner. After going through a lot of trial and error in my career, I have decided that I want to pursue being a Registered Nurse. Many things have led me to this career choice, including personal and financial gain. I have tried many other occupations and educational programs and none of them have fulfilled me like I believe nursing will. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and I often joke that I finally know what I want to be when I grow up. I will tell you about my journey and what I hope to gain in my future.

It takes a while to get to know yourself before you are able to care for another person. Studying oneself is challenging because it allows reflection of one’s inner self, exposing your strengths, weaknesses, vulnerabilities, interests, habits, defenses, and values. On the same note, it allows a person to be more familiar with the challenges he or she faces, how they might respond to certain situations, and offers an opportunity for learning and growth. Throughout this paper, I will discuss the various pieces of myself. I will consider my personal and professional life as a nurse, what I might employ as my mental model, which may limit my frame of thinking, how it has shaped me so far in my education, and how I relate to others.

My journey to finally realizing of becoming a student in this RN Executive Program has been a long journey filled with excitement and disappointing periods. I 've started this quest in the Summer of 2015 and here I am, two years later, starting my first class in the program, Nursing 301.
Therefore, I strive every day to be that professional, that health care provider that has a positive and long lasting impact on patient’s health and wellbeing. I always strive to be that professional that my patients and colleagues trust, respect and admire. As a registered nurse, I have accomplished that. I know it because I am asked to precept new nurses and students, because my colleagues come to me frequently to ask me questions when they are in doubt, because when there is a difficult or complicated patient, my supervisor trust me with his care, because at the end of a long busy shift with seven to eight patients under my care, my patients praise me and thank me for the great and unique care I provided them.
Prior to entering the professional role of nursing, a nurse should also determine the principals and personal values that will guide their nursing practice. Personal values, past experiences, and influences of other nurses are what attract many to the profession of nursing. Nurses have a profound impact on the lives of their patients, their families, and the community. The job I have been interested in since I was a freshmen in high school was a registered nurse (RN). I decided to choose this career because when I was a freshman in highschool I tore my ACL for the first time. I avidly want to study nursing. I feel like being a daft person will help me get along with patients.The nurses were always there to comfort me and made me feel better about the situation I was in. they helped me through the hardest time in my life. My journey to nursing began with my personal healthcare experience, and has continued to evolve since entering the nursing program at State University. My personal philosophy of nursing is related my life experience and my personal philosophy of life. Using reflection-on-action, I have begun to understand the influences that have lead me to nursing. I discovered client and family centered care to be an important quality when I look at the influential nurses in my life. To develop a positive therapeutic nurse-client relationship, nurses must integrate all 5 dimensions of the therapeutic nurse-client relationship into their practice (CNO, 2006). When it comes to providing client-centered care, the dimensions of trust, empathy and respect are particularly important (CNO, 2006). Illness can be a traumatic experience for patients and their families, and it is important to be empathetic to the patient’s needs, while still trusting the patient to be an expert in their illness and care.
Enjoying such a wide variety of opportunities has not shown me a particular area of nursing but has drawn me to a love of nursing in general as each person has a story and walk in life. My goal is to continue to learn from the opportunities I am presented and learn from those with the experience to help me improve my level of care. Leadership to me is learning to build on past experience and helping others use their unique talents to bring people together for a common purpose. Learning, living, and then leading I want to be someone to bring others together to make a true lasting impact. Growing up I enjoyed doing service projects in my community and through college I have found a love for short term service trips including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Belize, and twice to different areas of Michigan, one of which I was a co-leader in helping to plan. Service trips and service work is something I love and I want to continue to help and build on what I have already accomplished in serving my community. It is my desire to be a lifelong learner to help me serve people and my community to the best of my ability. I believe that nursing should be a holistic approach, dealing with a patient’s body, mind, and soul. It is definitely a physically demanding job, but equally as important is the demand for emotional commitment. My past academic performance, as well as my personal qualities, provides the foundation for my career. A core characteristic of a successful nurse is teamwork and the ability to act as the liaison between the patients and the other members of the patients’ care teams. Besides working well in a team, it is also important to seek out help when necessary. Another vital quality is culture competency. Prosperous nurses understand diversity, and embrace and honor, rather than judge or ignore, what makes people different. Furthermore, critical thinking skills allow nurses to recognize possible patient problems. The intellectually disciplined process enables the nurses to respond to the constant changes and needs of a patient in their charge. Lastly, the nurse’s role has a zero tolerance for error where the smallest mistake may result in a life-threatening event. To ensure patient safety, it is critical to pay attention to detail and use caution no matter how stressed or overwhelmed a person might feel.
