Kristen Truempy opens up to Deirdre, a listener from Cape Town in regards her personal journey with depression. Instead of writing Deirdre an email, she decided to answer through podcast by helping others who are dealing with depression. According to Kristen “when people face socially and professionally disturbed in their life. People with depression face change in their sleep, daily activities, movement problems, ability to loose concentration, and suicidal thoughts, and feeling worthless.” Depression does not happen overnight. Kristen’s depression started as a child when her parents couldn’t afford rent. She had a loving family and had dreams about being a professional soccer player. She notice her depression worsen as she read the newspaper went into detail about the violence and negativity around the world. Her struggles continued at work when her employees began yell and scream at her. She developed a self of worthlessness and had no one to discuss with. She lacked of fresh air, no energy, her body stopped to function; things which brought her happiness did not feel the same way, she felt completely helpless. MaeLin actually went through depression and took medication for it. She felt that her life shouldn’t be consisted by taking pills to help cure her depression. She read inspirational books, went to yoga/gym, and got rid of the negativity in her life. Knowing someone who is depressed is not simple. This podcast allows people who are listening to understand the definition of depression and how there are different stages in depression.
