Hallucination is still a major epidemic in modern day america, about one out of twenty people has experienced at least one hallucination in their lifetime. Like MacBeth's hallucinations can occur due to a traumatic experience or mental illnesses such as; schizophrenia, dementia, and delirium. Hallucination can affect people of all ages but is more common in people over the age of fifty. MacBeth’s hallucinations started after he killed King Duncan and the guards. Once he was named king he began being haunted by the witches prophecy that Banquo’s heirs will be kings. His delusion and hallucinations causes him to hire hitmen to murder both Banquo and his son Fleance. Banquo was murdered but Fleance managed to escape. MacBeth now more haunted …show more content…

These may be things like seeing movements, or hearing faint noises, sounds, and voices. Various forms of hallucinations affect different senses, sometimes occurring simultaneously, creating multiple sensory hallucinations for those experiencing them. A visual hallucination is "the perception of an external visual stimulus where none exists". Auditory hallucinations are the perception of sound without outside stimulus. Command hallucinations are hallucinations in the form of commands; they can be auditory or inside of the person's mind and/or consciousness (like the ones McBeth suffered from). Olfactory or Phantosmia is the phenomenon of smelling odors that are not really present. Tactile hallucinations are the illusion of tactile sensory input, simulating various types of pressure to the skin or other organs. Gustatory is the type of hallucination is the perception of taste without a stimulus. Hallucinations affect more and more people each day with some treatment and few cures. Certain measures can be taken to prevent or reduce hallucination, although a psychologist or psychiatrist may need to be consulted in cases of hallucination caused by mental illness.
