Personal Responses Global Perspective SOC4001 Prepared by: Saiaf Bareem Prepared for: Julie Gregory Algonquin College 2015 Global Inequality and Poverty It would be correct to say that global inequality and poverty is a serious issue for different nations. There have been cases that rich is becoming more rich and poor poorer. In the presentation, group has been able to make certain relevant questions about global inequality and poverty. It would be an alarming fact to state that half percent of the population controls more than 33 percent of world trade. The group has raised a pertinent question of relationship between inequality and poverty. I would say that there exist a direct relation between global inequality and poverty. It is rightly said that global inequality creates poverty in three important ways. The three ways as highlighted in the presentation are: o Discourages political participation of poor people. o Prevents building and proper functioning institutions. o Enables the wealthy to refuse / compromise politically or economically. I would agree with all these reasons and I would like to add that there could not be any short-term solution to address the issue of global inequality and poverty. It is important that government, organizations and society should focus on long-term …show more content…
The leaders of different countries have been trying to figure out the solution to global environmental problems. It can be said that different countries have different agendas and they are not willing to compromise on their agenda in order to reach a middle solution. However, these leaders should realize that environment or forces of environment like wind span across multiple nations without any borders. Therefore, leaders of different nations should join hands in order to reach a common term and common solution for this serious problem that surrounds the society of different
Poverty is not just an issue reserved for third world countries. Instead, poverty is a multifaceted issue that even the most developed nations must battle

The ultimate question, why does poverty exist? Poverty can be measured in two ways. It can be measured by absolute poverty and by relative poverty (Author). Absolute poverty is about the goods and services. Relative poverty looks at needs (Author). There are many reason why poverty exists. It exists local, nationally and internationally. There are problems with people obtaining education, obtaining jobs and just with money in general. There are ways to improve the quality of life of the poor and in this essay they will be laid out.
Poverty occurs in most parts of the world. Nevertheless, the more serious and problematical poverty takes part in the third world and the southern parts of the globe. First of all, we have to clearly define the word “poverty';. In a broad sense, it means that people within this “poverty'; region are poor or have a lower average income per capita than other regions. To a deeper approach, we refer “poverty'; as people have low educational backgrounds, lack of food supplies, or people with lower standard of livings, etc. According to the Webster’s New World Dictionary, the word “poverty'; can be defined as: 1) the condition or quality of being poor 2) deficiency; inadequacy 3) scarcity (Webster’s p.461). Generally in this essay, we will examine the facts that lead to the poverty of these third world and southern countries.
Today’s world is faced with numerous social problems that pose enormous threats to humanity. Many of these problems threaten our very survival. Poverty is an issue that plagues all societies in every part of the world. Not even the most privileged countries can seemingly avoid it. It has a huge presence in the United States which is one of the wealthiest nations in the world.
Income inequality is when income is unevenly distributed in a country. This inequality has reached staggering heights across the world. Even in what we consider developed countries this disparity is only increasing. The causes for income equality can range anywhere from immigration to the policies and politics of a country. However, some critics of income inequality will argue that it will always be present and is necessary to stimulate growth. Nonetheless, the problem is not only that the gap between the poor and the rich is widening but that income inequality is causing devastating market and government failures.
...e when calculating the income elasticity of poverty but According to Heltberg, (2002) in many cases , growth is more important for poverty reduction than changes in inequality, but this does not label inequality as unimportant Heltberg (2002). Heltberg and Ravillion(2002) discover that growth does not alter inequality. Inequality can be held constant as ram does ram (2006,2011,2013) or the gini coefficient can be added to the regression as it is seen on Adams study (2004) where growth elasticity of poverty in developing countries is calculated to be -2.79, a decrease in the proportion of a population living in in poverty to 2.79% for every 1% growth, which is consumption based rather than income based. Regression is used where the rate of poverty reduction(p) is regressed on the rate of growth in GDP per capita and the rate of income inequality (gini coefficient).
In today 's society, there is 1 in 7 people living in poverty which is costing Canadian citizens’ money as they are paying for taxes. There are many standpoints in which people examine the ways poverty affect society such as Marx’s conflict theory. Marx’s conflict theory goes over how social stratification being inevitable and how there is a class consciousness within people in the working class. Another way that poverty is scrutinized is by feminization. Feminization is the theory that will be explored throughout this essay. Poverty will be analyzed in this essay to determine the significance of poverty on the society and the implications that are produced.
Poverty has been around for a long time and over time more and more sociologists have discovered reasons to why poverty exists. In developing countries, poverty features as a central issue; not only that but the world in general has a poverty problem. Almost half of the world, over three billion people, lives with less than $2.50 a day and at least 80% of humanity lives on less than $10 a day (Shah, 2013). Relating back to the question at hand, how might the poverty of low-income countries be explained from a sociology perspective? It basically asks why does poverty exist in low-income countries. One must first define poverty; poverty has changed over time. Unfortunately, poverty is essentially the lack of an acceptable amount of money to live
There are many causes of poverty that do not stem from an individual’s choice, but from society as a whole. They include the history of generational poverty, war and political instability, national debt, discrimination and social inequality and vulnerability to natural disasters.
Income inequality continues to increase in today’s world, especially in the United States. Income inequality means the unequal distribution between individuals’ assets, wealth, or income. In the Twilight of the Elites, Christopher Hayes, a liberal journalist, states the inequality gap between the rich and the poor are increasing widening, and there need to have things done - tax the rich, provide better education - in order to shortening the inequality gap. America is a meritocratic country, which means that everybody has equal opportunity to be successful regardless of their class privileges or wealth. However, equality of opportunity does not equal equality of outcomes. People are having more opportunities to find a better job, but their incomes are a lot less compared to the top ten percent rich people. In this way, the poor people will never climb up the ladder to high status and become millionaires. Therefore, the government needs to increase all the tax rates on rich people in order to reduce income inequality.
Although poverty is a tremendous issue in America, there are practical solutions to remove, or at least lessen, the inequality it poses in society. Through government intervention and an active commitment to the issue by citizens, progress can be made.
Being able to speak about poverty we first need to understand its origin and cause. Each cause of poverty varies however they all effect people and society the same way. Studies say that there are few reasons such as population growth, corruption, etc. however the real reason still remains in the open. It has become a horrific issue all across the world. Because there are different causes of poverty each needs a specific solution. History in most countries began with the inequality based on financial wealth, very similar to today's world. Countries that experienced colonization and slavery had trouble getting of the discrimination. Poverty is defined as the lack of the minimum food and shelter necessary for maintaining life. It has become the biggest global issue because it involves a big percentage of the population.
A lot of people in the world are in poverty today. Various countries are trying to minimize the poverty level by the government subsidizing most of the things in the country such as education, food, and health services. Also, factories have started production goods in surplus. This excess production will lead to deflation because when there is an excess supply of goods and services, the price of the good or service will fall making the people pay less for more. More so, some countries have started maximizing the use of fertilizers in farms in order to increase agricultural production which will reduce poverty. Here, poverty will be looked at broadly and different plans put forth by different people to eliminate poverty will be discussed.
To make a better world poverty needs to end and the wealth distribution needs to be equally spread to everyone. Poverty is a major problem in the world, most of society is in the lower class. According to the video we watched in class, the top one percent owns forty percent of the wealth. The bottom seventy percent owns three percent of the wealth.
