Studying the Storyteller Selling over 800,000 tickets in 2016 for her “Storyteller” tour, Carrie Underwood was one of the top performers of that year (Allen). I was lucky enough to watch her show at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The event left me in awe. Parking was shockingly trouble-free. The stage setup ensured that everyone had a good view. Carrie Underwood performed amazingly, and many other entertaining features were present. The Carrie Underwood “Storyteller” tour was a magnificent experience. A light show, in a range of colors, came with every song. I really liked this because it made the music seem more intense. Many songs also had special effects with it. The special effect was either smoke, fire, large curtains blowing around, or fireworks. These were actually extremely interesting and eye-catching. Michelle agreed and said, “She had so many different colors and effects and it seemed to change with every song and I thought that was awesome.” Some might think that a person could listen to her music on the radio or a CD to get the same experience as a concert, but I do not believe this is true. By just listening to a CD, one does not get the same spark as they would at one of Carrie’s concerts. The special effects and the crowd of people cheering at a concert make it much more energetic and fun. When she was about to go on stage, my heart was racing because I was so excited, and I never feel that way when I am listening to her music in the car. I think that a Carrie Underwood concert is much more enjoyable because one does not see all the effects or receive the same thrill by listening to her music on the radio. I had a spectacular time at the Carrie Underwood “Storyteller” tour. Parking and entering the arena was very easy, the stage was set up perfectly, and Carrie performed excellently and put in a lot of extra effort that made her performance even more fascinating. As black men in America we have been cultured to undertake sexual conquest to show our bravado and earn manhood. These conquest have left our people with all kinds of diseases and STD’s. A lot of young men are pressured into losing their virginity this way and lose their innocence. The worse part about this whole or deal is the affect it has on black women. The rape culture has left African American women mentally emotionally and spiritually unstable with numerous trust of trust issues that will take years to heal. Socioeconomic factors like poverty, unemployment, education and some people because of geographic indifference cannot receive the information. Flannery O'Connor's "Good Country People" is a story told through the examination of the relationships between the four main characters. All of the characters have distinct feelings about the others, from misunderstanding to contempt. Both Joy-Hulga, the protagonist, and Manley Pointer, the antagonist, are multi-faceted characters. While all of the characters have different levels of complexity, Joy-Hulga and Manley Pointer are the deepest and the ones with the most obvious facades.

Laura Wexler’s Fire In a Canebrake: The Last Mass Lynching in America, is an spectacular book that depicts what, many refer to as the last mass lynching. The last mass lynching took place on July 25, 1946, located in Walton County, Georgia. On that day four black sharecroppers (Roger Malcom, Dorothy Malcom, George Dorsey and Mae Murray Dorsey) are brutally murdered by a group of white people. This book presents an epidemic, which has plagued this nation since it was established. Being African American, I know all too well the accounts presented in this book. One of the things I liked most about Fire in A Canebrake was that Wexler had different interpretations of the same events. One from a black point of view and the other from a white point of view. For my second dance show review, I went to Hollywood to watch a show called Billie Holiday Alive. This show was a performance of Billie Holiday’s greatest hits accompanied with dancing as someone portrayed Holiday and lip synced her songs. The show also took time to tell the audience an abridged life story of Holiday between each musical and dancer performance. This show was quite unique because it utilized hologram technology to show someone who portrayed Billie Holiday. It also used live dancers to accompany the hologram performance. It showed the growth from Holiday’s time to the present and her influence on how singers sang and what they sang.

After over three decades of broadcasting from the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry, a live country radio program, moved about nine miles out of the city to Opryland U.S.A. A few months following the move, hostess Carolyn Holloran said “Country music is wherever the soul of a Country music fan is!”1 This quote was spoken in reference to the relocation of the Grand Ole Opry. Nevertheless, it can transcend this context to further describe the genre of Country music. From its roots in the Appalachians, to its commercialization and crossovers, Country music has come to represent the culture of the Southern United States. Through this music people have formed a collective identity which respects the past and hails the future. It is a genre that has grown and changed with its people.

On a cold, brisk Tuesday night, I attended the musical called Urinetown by Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis. Urinetown was held in Rowand-Johnson Hall, at the Marian Gallaway Theatre. As I quickly walked in the entrance, I noticed that people were wearing casual attire. I gave the usher my ticket and walked to my seat. This time my seat was located up at the front so I had a great view of the stage. This particular theatre is my favorite, it is very open and you can see from every seat. This musical is known to be a musical comedy which deals with different themes, unique text, and extraordinary technical elements.

Finding Nemo- The Musical is a very entertaining 40 minute show. The performers have to steer and direct massive puppets to do what they want.
