Rape, one of the most physiological damaging events that can happen to a person, an act of violence and force that will always remain with the victim. Rape can be seen as one of those topics that are deemed to be highly sensitive and serious but there will still be sources who find a way to say that the act of rape is one that can be provoked. Whether they say that the victim was wearing clothing that was showing too much skin, or that the victim was in a state of drunkenness, I believe that in no matter what situation the victim was in, rape can only be blamed on the assaulter. It could be a stranger at a party, a friend, or even someone in the family, rape happens all the time. 1 out of 6 women are victims of rape and sexual assault happens every 107 seconds. Although statistics show that sadly it does happen so often you also notice that not many of these cases are reported. Only a small proportion of rapists will spend time in jail due to many varying reasons; the major one being that most of these assaulters are not reported. College rape is becoming more and more common and can actually be the site where most rape happens for young women of America. 18 percent of students have stated that they were raped during college and of that percentage 41 said that it had happened during freshman year. No matter how cautious you are can you really prevent it? A student who gets intoxicated with some fraternity brothers shouldn’t be blamed when she becomes the victim of rape, instead it should be fraternity boys. Programs are being provided to initially prevent rape for students especially in situations where a student is vulnerable. Another issue of on campus rape, is that it is the least to be reported.
